Wine
I apologize if this question has been asked, but I can't seem to find a clear answer anywhere.
If allowed into my daily calorie plan, will a glass or two or wine hinder my weight loss? I've heard some say that calories are calories, and as long as I plan for them I'll be okay. However, I've also been told that the calories in alcohol are different and will find their way right to my belly. Thoughts? |
I don't believe the calories in wine are any different. If you drink wine, it just means you'll have to eat a little less. Last year I lost 50 pounds while drinking a 6 oz glass of wine almost every day (and occasionally drinking 2 glasses). I continue to do this in maintenance, because I really enjoy that glass of wine. For the time being I've decided that the "sacrifice" of fewer eaten calories is worth it.

Agreed, my experience has been that calories are calories.

I agree with "calories are calories." Sometimes I'll even have a bigger drop after drinking, but only if I have TONS of water, as well.

We are all different on how our bodies react to alcohol. If you are a calorie counter, count the calories & see how it works for you! :)
With alcohol, many find they continue to drink more than they intended & some want to continue eating after drinking alcohol and that can be quite caloric if you do both too often! ;) Give it a whirlski and see how you react, it is NOT a one-size fits all lifestyle. ;) |
I just finished reading a book called "Younger Next Year: Living Like 50 at 80 and Beyond" or something like that. Anyway, in the book, written in part by a doctor, part of his formula for living a long, healthy life is exercise 6 days a week, healthy food, and one drink a day. He said if you normally don't drink, don't start, but if you do enjoy a cocktail, a single drink a day is wonderful for you, or 2 drinks at the very most.
So, according to him, he would encourage a single drink a day for your health. |
I think on 1 drink a day or 2 drinks a couple of times a week is totally fine, the problem comes for me if I drink more than that I tend to also over eat. I normally have a couple of drinks on the weekend and it hasn't slowed my weight loss at all. I do however stick to 100 calories worth, such as a light beer or a small glass of wine.
