I hope Software will make calorie counting fun again!

Hey Ladies,

Going to try again for real. I am wondering if any of you are like me, I find calorie counting by hand or even in a spreadsheet a PAIN. I love love love fitday (hope its okay to mention certain softwares?) but unfortunately my internet is slow and I am (currently) on a MAC . If I ever switch back to a Windows based OS I will get that in a heartbeat. I loved it...all the nifty reports etc it was awesome. I really almost considered buying a netbook with windows OS just so I could run that particular softwear and tote the little computer with me everywhere logging what I did and what I ate what my mood was etc... . And running reports randomly to motivate me haha.

I just got Calorie King, I feel like it is Fit days mediocre cousin :( But i can track what I eat, my calories, my activity and i don't have to be logged into the internet. (important) so we'll see hopefully this goes MUCH better than my recent attempts at logging on paper. I can hopefully e-mail myself updates and input all the info each night. And who knows maybe I'll get to know the program better and change my mind about it.

Hope to be a more active part of this section of the forums soon. :)

:carrot:

I love my FitDay PC software! The other day my computer completely broke for the last time. The VERY FIRST thing I did was recover the FitDay user data from the hard drive, found my FitDay CD, and installed FitDay and my user data onto my husband's laptop until I can get a new computer.

Seriously, I understand your frustration. Maybe buy an old used laptop on Craigslist. Doesn't have to be very powerful, just enough to run FitDay PC, lol! On the other hand, a small enough netbook would be quite portable and it would be easy to carry your diet/fitness plan around with you.

The PC version blows away all the competition and the web-based version cannot compare.

Do you have a smart phone? Most calorie counting applications you can now get on your phone aswell. Awesome stuff! I love MFP on my Blackberry!

I'm going to stick with Calorie King for a while ... but may treat myself to a netbook next year sometime. I loved fitday I liked recording all the minutia of my life in it, including hours of sleep hours of housework. (Seriously it motivated me to increase my NEAT because I could see how it all contributed to increasing my calorie burn). Ah how I miss fit day you can only record actual exercise in Calorie king, I tried inputting "typing" and "sleeping" they didn't come up. Only excercise not your activities :-| I'll use calorie king at least to the end of december its better than nothing.

I don't really use smartphone apps my BB is unreliable the sketchy reception here means the battery just randomly goes from 3/4 to empty sometimes when theres a glitch. (It's a common problem around these parts not just my particular phone or model...very odd but i'm not alone in my complaints ).

I will live with CK until i can get on fitday again i think it is a placeholder in the mean time though I don't see me and CK lasting in a long term relationship when even though its Windows dependant fitday is just my true tracking love! ;)

After years of begging from users, Fitday is currently trialling a beta version. It's only on the web at the moment, but hopefully this means they'll update the PC version as well, and bring out a Mac version with any luck.

You might try Cron-O-Meter too. I like that one because it gives a very comprehensive breakdown of vitamins and minerals and is also pretty user-friendly. Less so than Fitday, but still pretty good.

I tried Cron-o-meter once a long time ago; I didn't like it. But I think that's because I loooove my FitDay software so much.

Does Cron-o-meter have a Mac version?

I miss tracking Non-Exercise Activity that you can do on fitday Calorie King won't let you boo! I LIKED seeing say the calorie burned doing simple day to day tasks and the negative affect that more sitting/sleeping/ etc had when I logged them and really looked at a day in depth (didn't always have time to do that but it was a reality check when I did).

That said I got my first day of tracking done yesterday. Have bene e-mailing myself today too so I can input it at night. I think I will use Calorie King to the end of the year.
