What would be a good dessert?

  • I'm way under my calorie goal tonight. Because I was really busy this afternoon I forgot to eat lunch and then when I realized I was hungry it was so close to dinner I chose to wait.

I'm only at 725 calories and it's 7:30pm here. My calorie goal is 1200-1500. That's way too low to end the day on so I'm wondering what a good and satisfying dessert would be that would at least bring me up to 1000.
  • This might not bring you up to a 1000 and you have probably figured out another option by now but this is my new current fave. I have a serving (about 3/4 cup) of plain greek yogurt ( I like Oikos brand - but I am in Canada and I don't know if you will have that kind) mixed with a Tbsp of pure maple syrup. MMMMM! You need to mix it really well - none of this drizzling business!

I can't eat wheat so a lot of desserts are off limits to me but this is delicious!
  • And I should add it is also very satisfying because it tastes so rich and creamy.
  • Mmm that does sound good but I'm out a greek yogurt. Do you ever use plain greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream? I've noticed it tastes the same but at least with the yogurt you're throwing in extra protein.

I actually did come up with something. My mom suggested homemade hot cocoa. Took half of a chocolate bar and melted it into whole milk. It really hit the spot. I've been craving chocolate recently but haven't had the leeway to add it in calorie-wise.
  • Love greek yogurt. Never use sour cream anymore. The yogurt makes a great savory dip too with fresh parsley and scallion with some red pepper flakes, black pepper, dill and lawrey's garlic salt.
  • Yup! Or add just a bit of ranch to it for a veggie dip. I have a friend who spent 8 months in Greece for school and she said that while she was there she made a lot of dips that usually require sour cream with greek yogurt. Like dill dip or french onion. She said that it makes certain splurges healthier because it throws in that protein. Like if you have to make a dip for a pot luck or game day, that's the way to go. At least then the calories aren't empty.
  • Yes. I haven't bought sour cream in awhile. I have been converted to greek yogurt.
