I don't know how many of you girls who are moms dieted while nursing. My son is about 10 months old and nurses frequently during the day. I'm enjoying the added calorie burning from nursing him but, I have been reading online that I need to consume 1800 - 2000 calories a day.
I have figured out that my body (being moderately active) needs around 2446 calories a day and it is wise to add an extra 300 - 500 calories a day to support healthy breast milk. I was trying to keep my count to around 1500 a day with out feeling like I was hungry all day and dealing with hunger pains. I have been loosing about 1 - 2 pounds a week and I don't want to stop but, I don't want to compromise my breast milk in the process. I plan on nursing my son til about 18 months.
I really could use some support/advice on this topic. I'm about 170 right now and only 5'3 I'm trying to get down to 140 by the end of this year and really pushing for by Oct 1st (My son's 1st birthday!)

) and I shoot for 1800-2000 per day. I've noticed that if I eat much below that my supply suffers. I think my supply might be more fragile than yours, though, since I've only been nursing for a short time. I've also been doing couch-to-5k, and that plus the calorie counting has had me losing about two pounds a week (except for this past week when I didn't lose any despite being perfectly on plan
).
