What are Your Favorite Diet Books?

  • I've looked at some of the Biggest Loser books on amazon, and they look wonderful, particularly the cookbooks and the success story books I found.

But these are the ones I actually have and love:

Calorie Queens - a great book about eating eucalorics that I learned about here on 3 fat chicks while lurking a few years ago. Too bad I never actually followed it until now.

The Mayo Clinic Diet - They were into "free" fruits and vegetables long before Weight Watchers.

Calorie Points for Weight Control ( a little booklet I learned about here, also from lurking, not at all like Weight Watchers points - just a simple conversion of calories to points; a no-brainer).

Thin for Life - a great book (the revised edition).

I'm hoping to start a big collection. These books keep me motivated. What are your favorites?
  • Hi oodie. My favs are:

    Protein Power (the original)
Atkins Diet Revolution (the 1972 version)
Why We Get Fat....And What To Do About It
    Good Calories, Bad Calories

    amongst others.
  • I have done a lot of reading over the years. Lots of books on dieting have passed through this brain! Most didn't stick, but here's a list of the ones that meant the most to me.

The Body Fat Solution by Tom Venuto - instrumental in getting me thinking about using the right sort of exercise with diet, plus explaining the concept of BMR and percent body fat. Helped me make the right goals too.

When my body refused to lose any more weight on basic calorie reduction and exercis, this one helped me get on the right track with what I was eating to support my condition...PCOS Diet Book by Colette Harris.

When the PCOS Diet stopped working too and I had to further explore what was going on in my body...Detox Strategy by Brenda Watson.

The Solution by Laurel Mellin...what got my head moving in the right direction to stop making emotional decisions to eat, and it's what got me to stop gaining weight and to always maintain my weight, even when the diets and exercise stopped working. It led me to EBT, which is something I am still involved in, 13-years later.
  • I was so amazed by Volumetrics by Barbara Rolls. I found it in Dec 2008 and started following it as soon as I finished the book. I lost 32 pounds from Jan to Aug 09. It's the best life skills for me.
  • I've been enjoying skimming through the newest purchase of "Hungry Girl's 300 Under 300" although I wish it had a 'Healthy Snacks' section. That would be such a big help! I'm open to sugestions! haha
  • If you haven't ordered the Biggest Loser books yet, PLEASE DON'T! They're nothing but fluff! It's the same info recycled over and over and it could all be reduced to a teeny pamphlet. Pass!
