  • I've become a big fan of Wendy's new salads, especially the Asian Cashew Chicken Salad. 380 calories for a full sized one is a decent dinner, and I can make it less by bringing my own dressing.
  • I a double order of the vegetable in place of the starch offered.
  • Love this!
  • Do you guys know how many calories contained in butternut squash soup?
  • Applebee's Dinner & Fast Food Lunches
I was surprised to enjoy a nice little steak dinner at Applebee's for about 500 calories. I had the 6 oz sirloin, petite but thick-cut at 230 calories. For my sides I went with the garlicky green beans (180) and house salad (70 calories with no croutons or bacon and dressing on the side). I then added very little dressing. They also offer steamed broccoli as a side which is only 30 calories.

And just as I was happily surprised to be able to enjoy a long-missed steak I was also reminded of how easy it is to go terribly awry at restaurants. A younger family member ordered the tiny kids Oreo shake and later when I looked it up I discovered it was 800 calories. Combined with the kids meal itself he probably ate well beyond an adult's daily caloric needs.

Other eat-outs I've enjoyed lately (fast food lunch):

    - McDonald's Artisan Grilled Chicken Sandwich (380 calories with herb vinaigrette sauce, 360 without).
    - McDonald's hamburger and medium coffee with 2 creams and half of a sugar packet. I get my hamburger plain and dip it in ketchup but that's not really a calorie thing, just preference.
    - McDonald's egg McMuffin. (Surprised at how reasonable this is at 288 calories given the filling bread, meat, cheese & egg.)
    - Subway: 6" wheat, turkey, no cheese, toasted. I love hot food - never been a cold sandwich fan. I load up with veggies. Spinach, tomato, onion, cucumber, banana pepper, green pepper & black olives. Then I ask for a *tiny bit* of Subway vinaigrette.
    - Burger King: Whopper Jr. With mayo, 310. Without mayo, 240.

Also, I almost always get unsweetened iced tea to drink wherever I go. 0 calories, fresh taste, no artificial sweeteners or anything.
  • Many ideas Thanks a lot!
  • Vita Mojo is good for calorie counting
  • I am learning a lot here I must confess.
  • Good info thanks
  • At Chick Fil A the grilled chicken nuggets are surprisingly good making it *slightly* easier to give up crispy nuggets. The superfood side is delicious but still miss the waffle fries.

From Chiliís the grilled sirloin with avocado is delicious and only 400 calories or so. It comes with roasted tomatoes and a salad.

At Mcalisters the fire roasted veggie soup is amazing. The turkey Cobb is a healthy sandwich choice with a ton of flavor.

  • Re: Dining out
What works best for me: Eat less during the day, stay hydrated! Eat smart in the restaurant. Order salad/s and a protein to have on it. A piece of table bread. If you want to lose weight and keep it off. You can be sated by eating food from restaurant - usually more spice/salt/oils, etc. Than what you would make at home = more special and satisfying. That seems to work for me. Stay conscious, i.e. Wine and caloric count.
  • Don't got Mcdonald's. I can tell you that much.
