Online help - Daily Plate or Calorie Count???

  • Does anyone use either of these to track their calories?

If so do you like it and why?

Do you pay for it? I know Calorie Count said it was free and Daily Plate has some kind of subscription service but I haven't had a chance to look at it all that closely.

Have you used their ap? I have an iphone 3.

Is it easy to stick with or is it time consuming? I have a harder time sticking with things like this (and diary writing... etc).

I want to keep better track of the calories I'm eaing but I don't want to get really scientific about it.

    Any other thoughts?
  • I tried a couple and I have settled on Daily Plate. The reason I like this one the most is virtually EVERYTHING that I have ever input has already had the information loaded and the information seems very accurate. I also like entering the calories I burn in it. The only thing I don't like is that this website thinks you should eat back the calories you burn through exercise- I don't do this but I have gotten used to that.
  • I use caloriecount.com...It's the only one I've ever used, so can't really compare it to the other websites.

It works quite well for me. It is fast, and has plenty of features to make frequently eaten foods easy to select (you can tag them, tag whole meals of different foods to add at once, and it offers a selection of most recent foods for each meal). It seems to have all the brands/foods that I eat, and several accurate information on restaurant meals. If not, adding foods is an easy process. It also has a recipe analyzer that is really handy. You just plug in your ingredients and the amounts and the serving sizes, and it gives you the analysis per serving. Then you can save the recipes (with instructions and such). The analysis is pretty user friendly and informational. I only make sure I have enough protein and fiber and have my desired calorie amount, so I don't pay attention to it too much otherwise.

One thing that annoys me, and it's REALLY not a big deal...you enter your target calories...mine is set at 1500...and your "calories consumed" bar stays green as in good as long as you're significantly below that number. So if I had 700 calories entered for the day, my bar would be green, even though 700 cal is way too low. As I get close to 1500 cal, the bar turns red as in bad. That annoys me, but I just ignore it.

I also avoid the CC.com forums. There's some good discussion and information, but I have to wade through too many teenage girls posting pictures of themselves at like 110lbs asking "am I fat???" and other such nonsense. I just use caloriecount for tracking calories and come here for my forum needs
  • There is an iphone app called Lose It! that is free (or it was last time I looked). It's pretty easy to use.
  • I have used Fitday from the get-go so can't compare it to any others. I'd be lost without it. I use the online free version. There are lots of ads on the free site but you can block them pretty easily ( I never see any ads)
  • i love the dailyplate! i think my favorite feature is if you have a common meal (like every morning you have 2 egg whites with 2 pieces of wheat toast and an 8oz glass of orange juice) you can save that as a meal, and not have to pick out each food every time.
  • Thanks everyone... I've been kind of going with calorie count the mention of subscriptions scared me away from daily plate. I haven't tried lose it or fit day but I might look into those to.

Megan - Do you use the calorie count ap? Does it work for you? It always closes on me I don't care for their forum either and hadn't planned on using it. I like 3fc
