Frustrated and Confused...

So... I started CC because I had issues with a previous diet. Well I was a bit uninformed and wanted to do 800cals... Realized how bad that was and raised it up to 1k. Well I was told that was still too low so I put it up to 1.2k. A few weeks and no change. I figured I should raise it so I did to 1.5k... another few weeks and still stuck!

It seems absolutely insane to raise them more... and ... ugh I'm just tired of being stuck! I have to wait to join a gym 'cause I'm moving soon. I can do a little bit (which I've started) but it's apparently not enough. Good lord someone please help me before I just give up on the whole idea and stay fat forever. T_T

I just glanced at your blog and saw that on February 2 you were starting out on a "real diet" and starting by eating only 750 calories. That's only 2 weeks ago. Give your body some more time to adjust! Stick with the 1200-1500 calorie range for more time (i.e. 3 weeks) and see what happens. Make sure you're measuring and weighing and tracking every single thing that goes into your body (don't just estimate at first). Make sure you're watching sodium and drinking water.

There are plenty of ways to workout without a gym.....walking or jogging outside, a wide variety of videos and DVDs that you can do in your living room, games for every video game console out there, bodyweight exercises, etc.

Good luck!

With your height and weight you can lose weight by eating at a higher calorie range. I eat 1650-1850 daily and I lose weekly. Maybe you are not putting enough calories in your body and it's holding onto the fat thinking it's being starved.

And you don't want to stay fat forever. :) Here's a motto that helps me:
Being fat is hard. Losing weight is hard. Maintaining is hard. Pick your hard.

Your calories are definitely too low. I'm calorie cycling 1400, 1600 & 1800 calories with 1 cheat day a week. I'm losing 1.5-2lbs a week. If you go too low, your body will go into starvation mode & hold onto the weight. Plus, if you start too low, where do you go from there when you do need to cut calories down the road?

Lord I'm going to be eating all the time... I already have to force myself to eat 1.5k cals! X_X

Has it really only been two weeks? Feels like much longer.

If you'd like some suggestions, post a sample day of food for you and we can chime in with ways to get more calories into your day in a manageable and healthy way.

I'll say again too, make sure you're measuring and weighing all your food instead of just eyeballing it. I "tested" myself when I started and my portion estimates were way out of whack - my "cup" was actually 1.75 cups. :o That can make a huge difference in your calorie counts.

I've "tested" myself and I'm pretty spot on actually. And I have a calculator on my phone that keeps track of my calories.

I have a profile on ************.com under the name CallMeStephanie

On your blog, you mentioned on the tenth that you "hate your body". If you are looking to lose weight because you "hate" your body, you are never going to lose weight for the long run. You need to love your body and want to treat it right to lose it for good.

I'm confused. How did you ever get to 280 pounds if you have trouble eating 1500 calories a day?

I see (obese) girls say this all the time here on 3FC, and it just seems so odd to me. I mean, you had to have eaten way over 1500 calories a day at one time to get to your starting weight, so why is it so hard now to eat 1500 calories now?

Whenever I read something like this I think there is something wrong with me because I struggle to cap my calories off at 1750-1800 each day! I could eat all day long!!! I'm impressed by people who are able to be satisfied at a lower calorie amount!

I hear you Stephanie, and I am in the same boat myself. I got on here this morning because I really need the support and encouragment the site offers.
I used to consume anywhere from 3k-4k calories a day easy. I've started working out (3 weeks strong now) and took my calories down to 1200-1500/day. Im also on the B6,B12, and lipo shots. My weight loss so far? A whopping half pound. woohoo! I'm so discouraged. The only thing that keeps me from throwing my hands up in the air and giving up is that I KNOW my workouts are paying off. I feel better, have more energy and maybe I'm losing inches instead of lbs, who knows. I'm not giving up, and we won't let you give up either.
Let's just keep on keeping on, and eventually it's going to pay off.

Good luck to you!

Really good point. I've never thought of that before, but have seen plenty of posters make this same statement. I guess the mental switch has flipped to "food is bad"?

Well, most of my calories came from liquids. I for example am not crazy about food but liquids, a lot of smoothies, coffees with cream and far too much red wine. They can really add a lot of calories.

Lori Bell 02-22-2011 06:55 AM

So if you are having trouble eating 1500 calories a day, why don't you go ahead and drink them. Have 3 (healthy) fruit smoothies a day if that is what it takes to get you to a decent calorie range.

You can make a pretty calorie dense delicious fruit smoothie that is still healthy by adding whole milk, ground flax seed and/or protein powder to fresh or frozen fruit. You CAN drink healthy calories.

As much as I hate to hear this when I'm not seeing the scale move, it's true: sometimes your body is changing and you just can't see it on the numbers on the scale. Sometimes you are gaining muscle if you are exercising, and that weighs more than fat. Also, I have a friend who was a weight watchers leader, and she says 5 weeks after losing weight, your body actually fills up the areas left empty by the fat with water! And obviously that has weight to it, so just make sure you stay on task and try your best not to stress the numbers just yet.
