CCount on Pasta - Dry vs Cooked

Hi,

I cooked some pasta yesterday and the box said that the calorie count was 180 calories for 2oz/56g. I cooked it and weighed it on my scale and ate my 56g of cooked pasta. It was a very small portion as you can imagine.

Do you think it was probably 180 calories for the dry pasta? If it is for the cooked, it's better I eat some brown rice as I get more food for the same amount of calories.

It's for the dry so serve weigh it first. Cooked pasta weights would vary depending on the type and also the length of cooking time.

I think the serving size cooked is usually 1 cup, which I just looked up and it says 140 g (174 cal). So what you ate was a little over 1/3 serving. No wonder it seemed small :)

Yeah, the dry weight would be a much more accurate measure if you can do that.

Counting pasta really drives me nuts. Finally I decided to just weigh the pasta after cooking and plug it into this calculator based on "ounces" of cooked pasta. 4.1 ounces (one cup) is 182 calories. I prefer weighing because large noodles like macaroni won't measure the same in a measuring cup than say spaghetti noodles.

According to my research, 100g of cooked whole grain penne noodles is 165 calories.

So, I would say the 56g must be dry.

Agree with everyone else! Usually the pasta's I buy have the dry weight/calories and says something along the lines of about 1 cup cooked or something similar.
