Counting Pasta?
Hey everyone, I have some questions on pasta.
The box says 170 cals for 2 oz. 2 oz dried? Because 2 oz cooked was a tiiiiiiny amount. So how do you measure from a large batch. I read somewhere that 2 oz uncooked equals about 4 oz cooked. Does that sound right? |
that serving size is for the dried weight. If you look at a 16 oz package, it has 8 servings. 2 oz of dried pasta comes out to be approx 1 cup of pasta. Not sure on the weight, but double seems about right once you add in the water weight. I always weigh mine before cooking because I find it much easier. I just boil mine seperately from the rest of the batch so I can be sure on the amount.

I use Barilla's website to figure out how much pasta 2 oz is, because it depends on what kind of pasta it is. 1/2 cup of one kind can be 2 oz, but 2/3 cup of another will be the same. Generally, though, it doubles when cooked -- so if it says 2 oz dry, then you want 4 oz cooked.
