Calorie Restriction

  • So, I've been losing weight and seeing results eating 13 - 1600 calories a day. I weight everything meticulously and I exercise 5x's a week - brisk walking or jogging.

Now, something I've noticed is that IF I can keep my calories in the 11-1200, I feel better - its almost like my body enjoys having fewer calories and eating less. I eat whole foods, tons of fruits and veggies, so I'm not worried about vitamins. Basically, I sleep better and I have more energy when I'm on the low end.

Has anyone ever heard of people that calorie restrict to live longer? I dunno... I sort of understand why they do it. Does anyone else find that they function better on 1200 than 1500?
  • Yes!!! There are a number of centenarians that swear by the calorie reduction. They basically eat a larger meal every other day. There have been articles written about it. I have seen it on TV and the internet.

Oh! Personal experience? No way Jose! It will be a LONG time before I am there, although I would like to say I would be open to it.
  • That is so interesting!

While I feel more energetic on 1200, it is not easy for me at all. I am in awe in of the people that eat 1200 cal. everyday for a long period of time. I am also in awe when doctors tell obese people to simply eat 1200 calories a day to cure their obesity.

It is so easy to fly over 1200 without realizing it. Typically, I hit the 14-1500 mark every day.
  • I thought it was crazy too, but the Seniors were active and healthy. They just got to the point, they said where they dont need as much. Here is one article about it. There are many.http://www.time.com/time/specials/pa...963381,00.html
there is also a case study called the "Okinawa Study" that talks about it.

Basically it is about slowing down the caloric intake, but maintaining the nutrient value.
1200? I wish! I just started tracking/limiting, and I am at 1800. I would love to get to that point!
