Road Trip

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to drive home to TN for Thanksgiving. The ride is 10 hours or so. I plan on taking an apple, banana and some nuts to snack on. I don't know what to do for meals though. I'm probably going to eat Breakfast before I leave, so I'll need to get lunch and possibly dinner before I get there. Any ideas for things I could take with me that don't really need to be kept cold? Or does anyone know some healthier options I could get from common fast food places if all else fails? Thanks in advance!

At most fast food places you can get a salad. I usually get a hamburger and do not eat the bun. Or if you stop at someplace like Denny's you will have plenty of choices. I also try to take a short walk, around the parking lot if that is the only choice.

I like the cranberry apple chicken salad at Wendy's. I don't use all of the dressing. And the salad is so big, I can eat part of it for a meal and then the rest as a snack later. Almost any fast food place has a good salad, just be careful about the dressings!

For take-alongs, I like your fruit and nuts and I like string cheese too! Maybe you could prepop some light popcorn and take in a zip lock bag?

Of course fresh food is better than processed food, but there are some lower calorie choices out there if you look. Salads are great, but sometimes you need something a little more substantial. There's always subway, of course. Other ideas: "fresco" tacos from taco bell (we don't have taco bell in my town, but a chicken soft taco from taco johns is about 180 calories...so two of those isn't a bad choice), grilled chicken sandwich from pretty much any fast
food place (figure about 400 calories), add a side salad and light dressing and that's about 500 cals for dinner.

Most fast food places have printed nutritional info available if you don't have access to the web during your travels. Plan before you order and you should come out ok!
