How many calories if it says 0?

  • Hello,

I've been counting calories and I love to eat this salsa that I get at the health food store. According to the Nutrition Facts, 1 oz. has 0 calories. Here are the ingredients: Tomato, Onion, Peppers, Cilantro, Lemon, Salt and Assorted Spices. It says there are 14 servings and sometimes I like to eat either 7 or even 14 servings and somewhere in my mind, I feel like it's just veggies so I don't worry about counting it. I also, over count calories and I work out a whole lot. My question is, what would you count that as? Thank you!
  • Calorie king says 80 calories for 14 oz of salsa.
  • I'd count it as an equal amount of tomatoes. Which is probably around 80 calories.
  • If the serving is less than five calories, it can legally be called zero calories. That means at most, each 1 oz serving is five calories (or slightly less). So the most calories that the whole container could possibly have is 14 servings x 5 calories = 70 calories.
  • Ok, CK is off by 10, close enough
  • Salsa is the best condiment in the world. I use it in just about everything! My best friend.
  • I'll take the 70 calories! Thanks so much! I knew I could count on you for sense and logic!
  • Mmmmm have you ever made a salsa omelet? YUM!
Even though this was not the thread topic, what kind
of "out of the box" uses do you guys have for salsa?
It really is pretty much a perfect food, flavorful, low cal.
I like to grill tuna steaks and mix salsa with pineapple and
put it on. You don't need much pineapple to make it very flavorful.
I've also put it on chicken breasts and top it with some monterey
jack cheese and melt it. I have to use spicy salsa for that or else
I want to use 20 lbs of cheese on it!!!!
