Colon cancer runs in my family and the doctor said that eating red meats more than 3 times per week can cause colon cancer. That is one reason why I don't buy it very often.
I also just like the taste of ground turkey over ground beef. |
I am so glad you posted this! I always pass on the ground turkey cuz the fat content looks about the same as beef and I like the taste and texture of the beef so much better! For tacos, spaghetti, etc I always do the brown, drain, rinse trick too. Long ago I read the facts on how much fat it removes - I can't remember exactly the details but it was so much that it sealed the deal for me! I agree with suggestion that the turkey industry has a huge marketing ploy at play - and I am sorry but turkey farms are disgusting!

I'm glad she posted it too. I hate ground turkey.
to the poster who hates touching raw poultry: I had a korean couple stay with me for a couple weeks and she cooked dinner one night. She used those diposable latex gloves to handle the meat. I thought it was a brilliant idea. |
So I looked at the hillbillyhousewife. I love the idea of rinsing. However I refuse to buy the super cheapest ground beef. My brother worked as a butcher in a large store chain and gave me enough horror stories, I'm just not going there. I wonder what the rinsing will do to ground chuck, and if it will be leaner, or even how lean it will make the $$ kind.
