calories in sushi

DH and I are eating at a great sushi place tomorrow--I would really appreciate any tips or calorie counts you may have for sushi rolls/pieces.
Thanks guys!

I know this is not even that helpful, but the place I go to for sushi here is approximately 45 calories per small piece of sushi with salmon and avocado and a drop or 3 of soy sauce. That's the only info I could find for the place, so when I get sushi there, that's what I have. Sorry I can't help more!

I love sushi and this is what constitutes a dinner portion for me: seaweed salad, miso soup and 8 pieces of sushi with brown rice and no sauces or cooked things. Soy sauce makes me really bloated after. I got my portion idea from Jenny Craig, years ago.

I learned to make some rolls at home, then I added up all the calories of the ingredients. It's awesome to eat out, but by making it at home more often, I have a little more control over my calories. Plus, it's fun!

Thanks for the tips guys! I had a spicy tuna roll, and some miso soup:)

I love sushi.. and.. just recently heard of having it made with brown rice. I've never seen this offered on a sushi menu.

Do you just ask for it to be made this way? Are most sushi restaurants able to accommodate this request?

I seem to need the rice to make me feel full, so I'd be able to have sushi more often if I were able to have it with brown rice.

Thanks for any info or experiences you have to share.

Beth, I have never seen a sushi restaurant in my parts that offered brown rice. It's harder to roll since it isn't as sticky as standard sushi rice. I do however find it pre-made at the 'healthy' grocery store in town and they seem to do fine with it!

I live in Southern California, and brown rice is served in many sushi restaurants here. You just have to ask for the substitution (and it's not always listed on the menu as being available). :)
