Make sure you get the 0%, it only has 90 calories and you get a huge serving.
Yes, you can use it in lieu of sour cream on tacos and in ranch or veggie dips (made from packet). It is better because there is a ton of protein and no additives. You really have to read the labels as it seems all the companies are jumping on the band wagon of the "greek yogurt" craze and they are NOT all the same. I usually mix mine up really good until it is creamy and then add the flavor of the day. It is also good mixed with Kashi and fruit for breakfast, very filling in lieu of skim milk. I like Fage 0% and hubby likes that Chibani Vanilla since he can't do the mixing thing at work. |

I did find hummus, which I also read lots of people talking about. It's made from chickpeas, right? I love chickpeas...the hummus not so much. What am I supposed to do with it? I feel silly. |
I got this idea from Kierstie Allie (sorry about the spelling). She was eating Fage Greek Yogurt (o%) and she put 1 packet of Splenda and lots of cinnamon. The result? Divine! I'm actually going to go and have some right now! :) It comes out super creamy and extremely satisfying! :)

By the way, I just realized that I don't have any cinnamon left so I put some vanilla extract in it instead and it's really good! :)

OH my thank you gals for all the responses I had forgot I asked this question- and I jsut remebred .. hehheee!
So that what it is it' has more protein and less fat! got it! whe nI ate it I did feel full longer! through 3fc I and your guys comments i have learned to try new things that Id never even heard of or would have cared to try I now love hummus! laughing cow cheese, agave nectar. skinny cows for desserts etc..lol the brand I had was Fagge? Or Hagge? something like that.. the first one I tried was with honey. it just tasted like sour cream mixed with honey to me..LOL and I seriously got an upset stomach because I felt like I was eating spoonfuls of sour cream..lol and then I tried one with peaches that I was able to stomach a bit better But I like the idea of adding agave too it or maybe a packet of sweetener! I think it would be a bit more gentle on my palate! and that one with chocolate at the bottom sounds good too1 I'm going to have to look for that next time! |
sunshine I had never tried hummus before joining 3fc either! it was through here I had heard about it..LOL it's soo good! the kind I get is from costco they sell them in prepackages little containers so it's perfect for dipping I get a garlic flavored ones to me it reminds me of beans.. kinda like a bean dip but better!

I have never tried hummus...even the name sounds strange. Could hummus be homemade and made with another bean?
|
Hummus is so much better homemade because you can control the salt. You can also switch up your beans. I often make black bean hummus. Just rinse a can of beans really really well (gets rid of salt AND lessens gas), throw it in a food processor with a little salt (a LITTLE salt), garlic, cumin, lemon/lime juice, and olive oil or tahini. Blend. You can also make it with dry, soaked, pre-cooked, rinsed beans.
Sooooo yummy!. |
Whether you like Greek yogurt may be one of those things that depends on your individual palate.
I like sour things. That's just how I'm wired. (I could regale you with sad stories about bingeing on SourPatch Kids candy till my tongue was raw & painful from the citric acid crystals.) So I happily eat Fage 0% straight up with a spoon, alternating with a spoonful of melon or berries. Also, since I no longer eat ice cream, I long for that texture in my mouth. (I wonder if it's related to infancy & babyfood or something ...) Yogurt is probably my substitute. Greek yogurt in particular mimics the fatty texture much better because it's so thick. |

So I tried it again this morning It came with peaches but I also cut up a strawberry and put in there with a half a packet of sweet n low(I know it's bad habit) and It was pretty good! I think I found the trick to eating it! I did love it right off the bat for it's texture I love thicker things too I used to get the custard style yogurt before I was on plan soo good. and also I like pudding because of how thick it is- the brand name was Fage- I think I want to try the kind with chocolate at the bottom what brand is that?

One of my favorite ways to have greek yogurt is with sugar free flavored syrup mixed in. I use Torani SF strawberry syrup and put in enough to make it pink and sweet! I like it because it's a zero calorie addition, but if I have calories to spare, I'll go for honey - I just love the sweet and tangy combo.

yummy! Thanks for the ideas. I wonder, what can you tell me the flvor of tahini? So I add that or olive oil? Is tahini an oil?

Does anyone know if Greek Yogurt is available in any chain grocery stores in Ontario, Canada?
I've looked for it a few times but I can't find anything that I think would be similar. I've seen "baltic" style yogurt, but not entirely sure if it would be the same as greek yogurt. Baltic would be a totally different area of Europe ;) |
