Lowered my cals back down and lost??

  • So i posted 2 days ago that i upped my cals n gained well last night i was at the gym late and wasnt very hungry during the day so at the end of the day i was a little over 1200 cals. and I lost a pound. Apparently i cant go over 1300 or i either dont lose or i gain. i dont get it. HELP??
  • If you had a 1.5lb gain and then a 1lb loss a few days later it could have been some water weight.

How long were you eating at the 1100-1200 range while you were stuck and then how long at the1500-1600?
  • i agree the only thing you are gaining and losing is water ( i dont mean you arent losing fat) i mean when over the course of a couple days of changing around cals, any weight change is only going to be in water-- and the actually weight of the food sitting in your body
  • It probably was water but i did eat really bad last weekend. So the weight loss made me happy. I just tend to lose more when my cals are lower but then people tell me im too low so ill raise it for a week or 2 and not have any loss.
  • Honestly I have to say pick a resonably calorie level, or maybe a range would work better for you to give you some flexibility when you need it or help out on extra hungry days, and just stick with it for at least 4-8 weeks. Your weight is going to flucuate on a daily basis no matter what your calorie level and if you panic every time it does and change your calorie level you're going to drive yourself bonkers (trust me I've been there) As long as your're at a deficit you will lose in the long term. Maybe some weeks you'll lose less than other (depending on TOM and stress levels or what direction the wind is blowing) and other weeks you'll lose more.

Also, if you tend to lose more at lower level, then who care what other people tell you. Maybe you're someone who just needs less cals, that's you. Personally I like to see people lose at the highest cals they are capable of (it's always better to burn the fat then starve it) because I truely feel in the long term you're better off and the risk of a low cal diet effecting your metabolism decreases, but not everyone can or wants to for that matter. So moral of the story is that you have to do what works for you. Good luck!
  • Okay I don't have as good advice as mkroyer and ncuneo because they have more experience and success than me BUT that said this is exactly why I have decided to stop weighing everyday! My short term goal is to go until Labor Day weighing only once a week - I mean it was really playing with my head to see those ups and downs on a daily basis. Bottom line, the other posters are correct -pick a level and give it some time! Good luck!
