Somebody posted this before but OMG
Okay somebody posted this breakfast idea before and I can't remember who or where but OMG is it good! Oatmeal with peanut butter and banana! Good filing breakfast for 265 calories:
1/3 cup dry oatmeal 2/3 cup skim milk dash of salt 1/2 banana 1 tsp peanut butter 1 tsp brown sugar Microwave the oatmeal and skim milk (with the salt) on high for 1 1/2 minutes. Stir in peanut butter and brown sugar while it is still piping hot. Then put diced banana pieces on top. Heavenly and I don't even really like oatmeal! ;);) |
Thanks so much for sharing.I absolutely love oatmeal and can't wait to try this recipe. I have some instant steel cut oats in the cupboard. I will try the recipe with them. Thanks again. I am loving calorie counting!

I love adding walnuts and honey to my oatmeal. So yummy!

Mmm! I think I'll be trying that out tomorrow morning!
|
It is delish right? I'm not an oatmeal fan,so I use Cream of Wheat instead. Still yummy!
|
During the work week, I usually eat instant oatmeal to which I have added blackberries or blueberries and walnuts. It is like dessert:)
|
yum! that sounds like a glammed up version of what i eat most mornings. i do .25C of old fashioned oats and .25C of oat bran to sneak in a bit more protein/fiber (from the oat bran), and use splenda or agave. ground flax is good to add as well.
|
Um peaceforme, I think I will try the honey (or agave) with walnuts that sounds delish! Guess I have been missing out all this time because I was avoiding oatmeal because I thought it was soo bland! Truth is it only takes a tiny bit of something (hence the 1 tsp of peanut butter) to greatly improve its appeal!

ETA: My apologies to whoever originally posted this idea! You deserve the credit but I just couldn't find the original thread!

I think oatmeal might be my favorite food. I just can't do it in the micro, for some reason the texture is just too mushy. I like it on the stove top - it seems more chewy or something?

Great recipe!
Just a tip, I always cook my oatmeal with a banana/half of banana (this recipe adds it on top later). I find that when I cook it with banana, it kind of cooks in a sweetens it and I don't need any sugar/honey/maple syrup, etc. AT ALL! Just cut up the banana, and add it with the water and oats and cook. I usually do this, and add cinnamon, and sometimes a few dried cranberries and walnuts with vanilla soymilk on top. Also, great idea Lisa about adding oat bran - I do this sometimes too! It ups the ammount of soluable fiber in one serving of oatmeal to be at the level that is supposed to reduce cholesterol (3 grams I think? I can't remember right now). But I was soooo disappointed when I saw that one serving doesn't have the amount recommended to lower cholesterol so I was trying to eat 2 servings to get the amount. Then I found oat bran and that ups it with a lot less calories. |
Usually oatmeal makes me gag, lol, I tried this with a little bit of a twist and I really liked it!
Did 1/4 cup oatmeal (cooked as directed) but with water instead of milk (we only have whole milk because of that's what my dr wants my daughter to have and I just didn't want all those fat cals) and I used a whole tablespoon of natural peanut butter with a packet of splenda (don't have any brown sugar) and then half the banana. I actually ate the whole thing, it was really good. Mine ended up at 233 calories. Thanks for posting this! I've always wanted to be able to eat oatmeal! |
I've had this almost every morning this week! YUM!!!
