Calorie Counter Question

  • Maybe this has been answered somewhere else but I have a question for you other calorie counters. Do you count anything other than calories? I mean do you keep track of fat grams, protein, carbs, etc or just the total number of calories?
I am just counting calories and that seems okay since trying to maximize the amount of food you get in those calories makes you make choices that should take care of the other stuff, right?
I love having this site to ask questions like this of those who have been there and done that!
  • I count my calories and watch my cholesterol for it is high.
  • I track calories and percentages of macronutrients (carbs, fat, protein). For me, it's important to have balance because 1500 calories with a high carb percentage feels a lot different than 1500 calories with a low carb percentage.
  • Likewise, I'm only strict with calories, but I keep an eye on getting enough protein and enough vegetables, and on having a relatively even balance of fruit/vegetables, grains, and protein. Like the above poster said, if I don't get enough protein I get hungry because what I'm eating isn't substantial enough, and if I don't don't get enough fruits and veggies likewise, since there is less bulk in what I'm eating.
  • I agree with the above. I mean certainly you could eat all 1500 calories in ice cream but that wouldn't be satisfiing. So, counting calories really teaches you to maximise what you are eating and get the most bang for your calorie buck... Also, protein and fiber help keep you fuller longer. So, just make sure you have some of each wit hevery meal/snack...
