Favorite online calorie counter???

Please, can someone recommend to me good online calorie counters that include a good selection of items, particularly brand names etc?

What are your favorites, free or paid, and why?

Thanks!!

Julie

I love sparkpeople.com. It is fairly simple to set up, it takes me less than 5 minutes once a day to enter my food and exercise, I rarely need to enter foods manually but if I do, it is not a hassle and best of all - it's FREE :D

I use myplate for all the reasons Onederchic mentioned.

I use calorieking....purely cos it lists australian products...if any of the other ones had aussie products in it i would prolly look at different ones

My daily plate on livestrong.com...Most foods and brands are in the system. You can enter your weight height and goal and it will give you an average of calories a day. You can enter your water intake, your excercise. It will give you net and gross calories like if you excercise it will give you two diff. lines. It keeps foods you eat regularly in your stats. It gives you badges for logging in every day, excercising...etc.. I tried sparks people but just couldnt get into it...Guess try them both and see what one you like better cause if you dont like it you wont stick with it!!

I also like The Daily Plate and My Fitness Pal.

Another vote for daily plate from me.

nutritiondata.com

I have tried them all and this is by far the best one I ever used. It has a lot of extra information too. Like estimated glycemic load of a food and inflammation factor.

Myplate at livestrong.com! Absolutely love it.

I use fitday but I am thinking of switching to one of the counters that has been mentioned. I find that Fitday doesn't have much in their database and I have had to enter over 100 foods manually. They also tend to assume that fat has been added to cooked produce which is kind of strange. I would have switched already except I have so many foods in the fitday database already and I am used to using it..not sure what to do

Vladadog 06-20-2010 12:49 PM

yeah, I started with fitday but got frustrated with the limits of their database. I resisted switching to myplate because I'd entered so much in fitday but I finally did switch and was sooooo glad when did.

I started with Fitday, tried Spark People, but now use My Fitness Pal almost exclusively.

************....free, has lots of food options. even has store brands. it's a fairly new site, so still working on some bugs. has an iphone app.

There are many sites and they are all basically the same. How they are laid out and how you interact with them is the only real difference, so it comes down to personal preference.

myplate.com drove me bonkers, but I love sparkpeople.com

Livestrong.com is my favorite. u just cant follow the allotted calories they tell u that u can have, its way to high. But u just start typing the name of the food and it comes up. Ive used them all and that ones the easiest and i love it
