healthy but tasty finger foods

  • Next week I am getting together with some friends for a movie and some finger foods. I'm not sure what to bring though. I don't want cookies or brownies or anything like that. I also don't really want to be the one to bring veggies/fruit. I want something that looks like it would be bad for you but is actually not..if there is anything out there like that.

    Any ideas for me?

  • How about grapes? They're easy and healthy, and people think of them as a bit of a luxury too, so you won't look like you're being stingy with yourself!
  • Sounds fun I love "themed" gatherings like that.

    This isn't fancy at all, but I've been making it for myself lately. You can veeery lightly dab some olive oil on tortillas, season them, slice them into triangles, and bake them. For most appealing results, I'd suggest using a corn tortilla. I personally am satisfied with low carb tortillas (80 cal each) and the spray on no-cal oil instead of olive oil. But I'm not a picky eater and not offering them to anybody else...don't get me wrong, they're still good, but the aim is low cal instead of taste.

    They're kind of fun, you can have chips without all the salt and grease. And you can have fun seasoning them, I like a few drops of lime juice, cumin, and chile powder. Then you could make your own salsas and guacamole for dips.
  • I have done blue cheese mixed (a little goes a long way) with ff cream cheese on endive with fig, hummus with veggies and pita (you can also add olives). I like to do pineapple for fruit, because it's also luxurious.

    You can also make little crustless quiches with eggs or eggbeaters and any fillings you like. I am a spinach-feta fan myself. You can use a muffin tin and spray it well with pam. Mini muffin tins work best, but you can also use regular ones.

    Ingredients

    * 1 lb green beans
    * 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    * 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
    * 2 teaspoons sugar or Splenda sugar substitute
    * 1/4-1/2 teaspoon hot chili flakes
    * 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
    * 1 tablespoon canola oil
    * 2 tablespoons minced garlic
    * 2 tablespoons minced fresh ginger

    Directions

    Rinse and drain green beans;trim off and discard stem ends.

    Cut green beans into 2- to 3-inch lengths.

    In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, chili flakes, and white pepper.

    Set a 10- to 12-inch frying pan over high heat.

    When pan is hot, add green beans and 1/4 cup water.

    Cover and cook, stirring once, until beans are bright green and slightly crunchy to bite, 3 to 4 minutes.

    Uncover and cook until any remaining water has evaporated.

    Add oil, garlic, and ginger to pan stir until green beans and garlic are slightly browned, 1to 2 minutes.

    Stir soy mixture and add to pan; bring to a boil and stir until most of the liquid has evaporated and the sauce thickens and coats the beans, 2 to 3 minutes.

    Pour into serving dish.

    Serve hot or cold.

    I also make chicken satays. Basically marinaded pieces of chicken on a skewer with a peanut dipping sauce. Google chicken satay and you'll come up with tons of recipes.

I have a recipe on this site http://kazzsrecipes.blogspot.com that is for Thai Pork recipe...and last week i used the same recipe but changed the pork for chicken mince and added rocket and semi dried tomatos (no other herbs) they worked out to 142 calories each - have a good time !
