Mine tend to be evenly spread out throughout the day, about 300-400 per meal which allows me a snack of about 200 calories after my workout or after dinner (tends to be either fruit or a protein shake).
I'm a VERY habitual eater, I tend to eat the same thing for breakfast and the same thing with a slight variation for lunch and dinners ALL WEEK LONG. I know a LOT of people can do six small meals, or 3 meals and 2-3 snack ect. But, I find that three "normal" meals per day and a snack if I want it works best for me due to my schedule. I found that smaller meals allowed me to go "oh, well its just ONE more almond" ect. When ti comes to overeating, I think that WHAT you eat is just as important (if not more so) then when you are eating. Balance is key!! |
I have 200 cal breakfast, 500 lunch, 100 snack, 500 dinner. NOTHING after dinner except a grapefriut. If I am having "one of those nights" I will have two grapefruits. I peel them completely (which takes awhile) This gives my hands something to do. For over 3 months it has worked. YES weird but it works for me.
One other weird thing I do... when cooking dinner I ALWAYS open a can of string greenbeans. I have to cook for the whole family.(three kids and hubby) If I want to "nibble" while cooking I have to finish that can of beans first. I KNOW ITS WEIRD! BUT it works for ME! LOL |
I try to have 900 calories in me by suppertime. I've found that it fuels my day better. I have a very active job (in home daycare provider and mother of 4) and need those early day calories or else I feel grumpy and sad. I have a 1500-1700 a day goal, so that leaves plenty for supper and maybe a little snack in the evening. To be honest, I have a harder time sticking to my calories when I consume the bulk of them after lunch.

I like to get most of my calories in before dinner because that's when I need the most energy. Plus, when I have a big dinner it usually makes me really sleepy and then the rest of the night is a waste.
It breaks down to 300 for breakfast and then 100 for a mid-morning snack. Lunch is 450 with two 100 calorie snacks before 6 PM b/c I need the energy boost before my ride home. Dinner is 350 with another 100 for a late snack. I like how simple and elegant my dinners have become because of this and how excited I get for all the goodies I've packed for lunch. |
