I know it's been asked before, but how many cals do you eat
I'm just not losing like I'd like, in fact I'm not losing at all and I'm not sure I'm eating enough. Freediet says I should be eating 1488 (extreme fat loss), but that seems like so much. Big loser says 1300. So here are my stats, please share yours.

I've only been at it for about 2 weeks and I lost 1 lb the second week, but gained 3 over the weekend (I drank too much wine) and today I'm back to where I started. Before I was counting I lost 80 lbs at about 1-3 lbs/wk but I don't know how many calories I was getting on a daily basis and turned to counting because I wanted to be able to identify why I plateaued (I've been at a plateau for about 3 months). I also need a new hobby (I'm a bit obsessive) Anyway, your stats would be appreciated. Thanks!
Well our stats are pretty different, but I know sometimes it can help to get perspectives from a wide range of "subjects"...

I think some people start of losing faster and slow down towards the middle while others will start off slowly and then pick up speed as they continue.
Also, I try to focus more on the types of food I'm getting my calories from rather than the number. I'd rather eat 1400 calories of healthy food than 1200 of crappy or less healthy food.
Good luck and keep up the good work...it will come off, I'm sure of it!
Everyone has different rates of weight loss - some people lose quickly, some people lose it super slow - I think you shoud try eating more cals. What does your typical day look like in terms of food??

In the beginning I ate 1200 calories every day. I started in March and at the beginning of summer vacation I realized that weekends were getting harder with all the activities...so at that time I increased my weekend calories (Friday, Saturday and Sunday) to 1500 calories/day average. I admit that sometime I spent all the extra calories (900) in one day, and on a couple occasions one meal. As long as I averaged 1200 calories for 4/days week and 1500/3 days week I was losing pretty quickly. From 4-5 pounds/week in the beginning months (1200 daily) to 3-4 pounds/week in the middle months (1200-1500 daily) and 1-2 pounds/week (1200-1500 daily) near the end of the losing phase.
Now that I'm in maintaince I can eat around 1800-2000 calories a day to maintain my weight. I am thrilled to add calories back in instead of continuing to take away like so many people said I would have too.
I don't excercise a lot in the winter, mostly just moderate house work and snow shoveling... In the spring/summer/fall I am very active outside and excercise pretty hard at least 5 days a week doing yard and garden work.

I eat 1550 a day, which seems to be working for me. I burn about 2650, so if I can keep that 1000 calorie deficit, then it should be good. I hear that every 3500 calories burnt is 1 lb of fat. So 1000 calories a day, 7 days a week, is 2 lbs a week! YAY!
I find that if I stick to 1600, I lose weight. Once during the M-F period I'll eat back my exercise calories and I usually tend to have a WAY overboard day one day a week on the weekend when we go see music and drink. I'm ok with that because for me, GONE are the days where I didn't go out and live my life just so I could stay home and "be good." I'm most concerned with weekly average, and if that average is around 17something, I lose.
I'm 5'8 and weigh 144, so I'm technically at my goal weight but I want to lose 5-10 "vanity pounds". I'm 33 and workout 5 days a week for an hour each time.

I'm not sure 2 weeks is enough time to really know whether it's working for you, especially with a weekend thrown in where you were subject to all the water-weight fluctuations that alcohol brings. (I'm assuming you stayed within your calorie limit despite the wine?) It sounds like a reasonable amount of calories, so it's probably worth sticking with it for a while longer to see if the weight starts coming off like you expect!

I went online and found bmr/bmi calculators and such. To maintain my weight i can have 2800 calories to burn a pound a week.. 2300 and to lose two pounds a week 1800.. so, i'm sticking with 1500-1800 calorie budget (I go back and forth or in between)and eating as healthy as i can.

Did you ever find yourself eating less calories. This happens rather easily for me as I look over my averages.
I too am thrilled you adding calories back in. This is my hope as well. My body is ultimately the judge.

calorie- 1500 cals a day but I typically eat back what I burn exercising so I probably log 1800 cals/day
I lose maybe 1/2 lb a week but I have medical issues so I lose weight very slowly which is ok with me as long as I lose

I did at first, but I think it was because I was highly motivated, excited and so gosh darn happy I was actually "doing it" that I was high on life instead of food. As reality kicked in I found myself recalculating my days so I could get in every last single calorie towards my daily "budget"!
I read a lot that people are worried when they don't feel like, or can't seem to get in ALL their calories for the day, but if that person is substantially overweight, and going only a few day here and there not getting in all their calories I say ENJOY the ride, because more than likely it won't last! Now, when a person only has a few (or none according to their BMI) pounds to lose and is continually dipping down to low calorie levels my hinky meter goes off, and I worry that person might on the verge of a serious eating disorder.
