Meats

So I am watching my calorie intake, I always feel like I am eating chicken though or turkey. I feel like red meat isn't healthy and I shouldn't eat it. What are some healthy meats and are good for you in porportions.

Not all meats are bad. Leaner cuts of beef are rich in iron and other nutrients. If you're craving a real steak you can't beat a sirloin or filet mignon in terms of fat content.

Pork is extremely lean and nutritious, much more so than chicken in the same quantities in my opinion. Try loin chops or tenderloin, they're the leanest cuts. Prepare as you would chicken. Ham is also very low in calories and if you get a low-sodium brand it's even better for you.

Lamb I do tend to stay away from because it is very very high in fat. It's only for special occasions. I tend to eat chicken and pork the most. I hate turkey so I live my life without it.

Thanks I always thought pork was pretty healthy. I think I will try for Chicken and Pork and keep the red meat to two to three servings a week.

What can I say? I'm a Texas girl. I love my beef but I do try to limit it to small servings. My biggest problem is that chicken so inherently bland to me that I always want to coat it in something or serve it with sauce where as I think a thin hamburger patty grilled on a bed of sliced onions is to die for.

Most types of fish and seafood are also low in calorie and have a lot of vitamins.

We do lots of fish and shrimp. When we're craving red meat, a really nicely prepared flank steak usually does the trick. It's lean, and cooked nicely, can be tender and yummy.

In many cultures meat is just a small ingredient or accent in a recipe. For instance - healthy stir fry with very little meat and large of veggies can help the craving for meat - but not make it the 'star of the show' by using a very small amount.

That is true with a vegetable beef soup. You can get the taste of it with out having more than a big slab of steak.

No meats, or any food for that matter, are bad in porportion. Read meats are just as "good" for you as poultry and pork but in smaller porportions. If you eat too much chicken it is just as bad as eating too much red meat.
