Suggestions for lo-cal breakfasts...
... that are filling and easy to prepare? I love Kashi cereal with skim milk and berries, actually eat it every morning. But sometimes would like an alternative. What do you eat for breakfast?
|
I used to love making eggwhite lazy-scramble. I'd buy the carton kind. I pre-slice a lot of veggies after I go grocery shopping, so I would toss em in with some low fat cheese to. I imagine these could also be made the night before, too.
I currently usually eat microwave oatmeal with yogurt on top. |
egg whites and turkey bacon
pumpkin waffles Egg, ham, and laughing cow on a multigrain english muffin All Bran, milk, and blueberries Plain yogurt and berries Smoothie I have to have variety to stay on plan. (One of the reason that Dr. Oz's diet wouldn't work for me.) |
I had a 308 calorie breakfast that really filled me up this morning. I had 8 oz of 2% Fage yogurt, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1/4 cup gluten free granola, and 1 T agave nectar with a sprinkling of cinnamon. It was dreamy.
I only eat it once in a while because the yogurt is so expensive, but it's a great treat. I normally eat scrambled eggs with salsa on top. I don't care for eggs, but they are masked well with the salsa. Sometimes with whole wheat toast. Usually just by themselves. I also like steel cut oats with a little brown sugar. |
yogurt, berries and bran flakes is my new favorite.
|
One of my favorite breakfasts during the week is an english muffin cut in half toasted in the toaster, spread a tsp of butter on each half, mix 3/4 tsp splenda and 1/4 tsp cinnamon in your hand, sprinkle on top, spray with 5 sprays of fat free butter spray on each half, and the microwave for 20 seconds. I add a piece of fruit or drink a glass of low sodium V8 juice.
Some others include 2 pieces of turkey bacon, 2 egg beaters and toast, or cereal, milk & fruit. I've been wanting try a toasted english muffin with a little peanut butter and topped with sliced bananas.. |
I like to make an egg casserole. Just chop up a lot of veggies, add in mostly egg whites and a few whole eggs and top with some low fat cheese. Bake for 25 minutes. Slice it up and put in individual baggies and take to work everyday.

Here are things I eat that have not been said.
For the last week I have been on a peanut butter sandwich with a teaspoon of honey on top of it and I eat it with a banana. I use 45cal bread So its about 310 calories. You could also try baking an apple or peach with a touch of brownsugar mixed with splenda and cinnamon and a touch of nutmeg, and about 1/4 cup of quick cook oatmeal. Bake it then in the morning eat it on top of yogurt. Breakfast pizza- light english muffin topped with scrambled egg, ham and then cheese bake in toaster oven untl hot and bubbly. You could also use a pita for this. Another topping could be bacon, tomato, and cheese. Think outside the box! you dont have to eat breakfast food for breakfast. You could have half a turkey sandwich with an apple if you want to! |
I microwave a serving of "Oatbran" (Kind of like whole wheat cream of wheat), and then I add pecans(Or any kind of nut) and honey to it. So yummy and fills me up.
|
Egg Beaters!! I like making omelets with (pre-measured, of course) cheese.
You can buy them already measured out in servings of the equivilant of 2 eggs. I usually have that and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and some berries or laughing cow cheese. It's nice to have something hot, though...it feels like you're having more of a meal. |
I often have a 1/2 cup of plain non-fat yogurt with 1/2 cup fiber one mixed in. It takes a bit to get used to the non-sweetness of it, but then it's okay. If I want a little more, I'll add 2 strips of morningstar "bacon". I'm not a vegetarian, but they're good!
Or I'll have oatmeal with skim milk and a spicy chicken sausage (Amylu, from whole foods). The combo of carbs plus protein plus fat keeps me going for a long time. |
I love Quaker's Weight Control Instant Oatmeal. It's 150 calories for a packet. I make mine with water and then add 1/4 cup of skim milk to it. I can't believe how much it fills me up.
- scramble egg whites, mushrooms, spinach and add hot pepper flakes and then roll it up in a small whole grain tortilla. - hard boiled egg on a plain rice cake with a slice of low-fat cheese. Some fruit on the side. |
I like eggs or plain old fashioned oats
|
Oatmeal with either brown sugar or honey and a few raisins.
Peanut butter on 2pcs of light whlwht bread (40cals each) and a yogurt This week so far has been turkey hotdog, egg and 1/2slice cheese on whlwht eng muffin, with a activia. Tomorrow will be a FF turkey and cheese sandwich. I just got the kraft lowfat mayo with olive oil. It's really good. And as a practice if I feel I need more I add a yogurt (6oz) or fruit. |
I don't wake up in time for breakfast. >_> I usually eat 'brunch' for breakfast. XD
If I feel like eating breakfast food as a meal, though, it's usually oatmeal with splenda and cinnamon. It's filling and it tastes good. |
