Food Tracking Websites

Can anyone recommend a good alternative to dailyplate? I just found out that it's associated with Lance Armstrong's organization, and I prefer not to support him.

Thanks!

kimmers0808 07-28-2009 02:57 PM

I use Sparkpeople and I love it, the support forums are great too. There is also Fitday, which is really good as well.

jeweliek 07-28-2009 03:03 PM

Do you mind if I ask why not support him? I may not be up on something that I should know.

sharongracepjs 07-28-2009 03:22 PM

I know he's inspiring to many people, but I think he's an overrated d-bag. He has always struck me as rather full of himself and I lost all respect for him when he abandoned his wife and little children to fool around with Sheryl Crow. As a former cancer patient myself, it saddened me to see him betray the trust of his wife after she had stood by him through all of that. I don't wish to support a marketing/lifestyle campaign named "Live Strong" that is based on someone who I find shallow and untrustworthy :?:

I use fitday, have for years! It's very straightforward and free.

Deana 07-29-2009 08:22 AM

I also use FitDay and Sparkpeople. But I use FitDay for my food tracking, and Sparkpeople for other things.

chavwright 07-29-2009 03:07 PM

Do any of these other sites let you track sodium? That's a big part of my plan. I hate Lance Armstrong, too, but as I haven't found any alternative, I use that site as well.

jeweliek 07-29-2009 03:44 PM

I like the software from Calorie King. It goes on your computer so you don't have to be online. It has a HUGE amount of food in the database and it lets you choose what you want to track

lottie63 07-29-2009 05:22 PM

I use sparkpeople and yes you can track sodium. you chose what you ant to track after the 'basics' are already laid out for you.

Wow. Were you involved in their divorce? I think alot of your views are based on tabloids speculation and not on facts.

I am with you - just have no use for men (or women) who abandon their families (usually to chase a younger piece of a**) - plenty of athletes and celebrities fall into this category. I love the Yankees but despise Alex Rodriguez (dirtbag extraordinaire - I never liked Madonna so no loss there, but I truly feel sorry for her husband and kids. But maybe Guy Richie should have known better anyway).

There are really too many to name. Anyway, kudos for standing by your convictions.

I feel the same way, so it is great that you are sticking to your convictions.

Sparkpeople and Fitday are two I have used. I just recently started using Sparkpeople again. I also have a program on my computer called Weight by Date.

Good luck with your goals.

For counting calories and nutrition I really like nutritiondata.com or webmd.com. webmd lets you track exercise also. I stick to nutitiondata because I track each type of fat including omega3's ...and the different amino-acids since I'm not eating meat or eggs most days.

Hope it helps!

I am in the minority here and I use caloriecount.about.com. It's simple, easy to use, has lots of brand and restaurant foods, and tracks all of my nutrition needs!

sharongracepjs 08-04-2009 01:10 PM

I've been trying SparkPeople for about a week and I really like it so far! Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions! (and for the kudos :) )

lyndzro 08-18-2009 04:19 PM

I've made an Excel file on my desktop and have a lil calorie book on my computer desk. I'll input the foods myself (I know a lot of them by heart now) - I do this as I'm English and find that the calorie counting websites cater mainly for American food brands, and was worried that the ones I selected were representing the food I was eating. But I've set excel up do that it tots all my calories and fat up automatically, and also records my weekly calorie intake and deficit. Its an alternative method but it works!

I've kept a mental log as I move through the day. It helps to eat some of the same things daily and having a rough estimate of how many calories I've consumed. I also love eating fast food, so there are a great many calorie calculators online that I can use when I try something new.

london_loser 09-07-2009 02:59 AM

I used to use The Daily Plate, but found I wasn't losing any weight - I think the calories allowed were too high. I've since moved to Spark People and finally things are happening :)

misspriss78 09-15-2009 06:15 PM

When i logged my calories online i used myfitnesspal...real easy and thier food data base is HUGE. Worth checking out, good luck :)

kittycat40 09-20-2009 11:01 PM

I have used daily plate since I started this way of life about 1.5 years ago. At every turn I resisted changing over to livestrong.com. Now, it's been a while since the merger between the sites --I have no choice and I have to track thru that site to get to daily plate. It's super annoying!

Sparkpeople or fitday? Ima gonna check it out. Thanks for starting this thread! :)

booskibabe 09-20-2009 11:13 PM

I have used fitday and liked it - especially all of the charts! Lately I've been using fatsecret.com. It seems to have a larger database than fitday and you have the option of tracking WW points - it will calculate them for you. It also tracks sodium! I don't do WW, but thought the comparison between calorie levels and WW points was intersting.
