Going over calories?

  • So I have been eating around 1500 calories a day, allowing myself around a max of 1600. However, I have gone over 1600 a couple times, but it's only when I am truly hungry(like tummy rumbling) and I usually make it something healthy( almonds, celery and hummus, etc.). Is it ok to go over calories by about 200-300 once in awhile? Does it keep my body on its toes?
  • I didn't until I was far into my journey. Do your best to stay to your goal. Not all calories are created equal BUT healthy calories can still add up to stalling your weightloss!
  • I think it's unlikely that you can be so precise about your calorie target, calories in, and calories out for it to matter, especially since it's good food. And most especially since you have it when you're really hungry.
  • I have a daily goal, which I do go over a few times a week. I also have what I have taken as an average from all the calorie calculators I could find online as my caloric need to maintain my current weight or close to it. That maintain amount is my hard ceiling. I do not go over over that. I have only done so ONCE knowingly when I was counting. I probably went over on my trip but it didn't cause too much damage. I figure as long as I am below maintenance, I am somewhat on track.
  • I think it's impossible to eat exactly the same every day. But I'm wondering whether your target calories is a little too low given your current weight. You might not be so hungry if you were willing to raise your target a bit.

  • I go over on occasion and I don't beat myself up. If I go over, it's been because my stomach is growling and the "water trick" isn't working. As long as I'm eating something healthy (rice cakes, popcorn, fruit, etc) and not an order of large fries, I feel ok about it
