Hi all,
It's been another crazy day, but achieved a lot. Had a phone interview with the university I'll be going to get an assessment with in San Francisco next week. The associate chair with whom I spoke paid me a complement. She said after the interview that, based on my answers, if it were up to her, she would hire me because I"m exactly what they are looking for :D. I also got a response from a third university that wants to interview me over the phone this week and, if all goes well, I might get scheduled for a training. This is all bringing me closer to moving to San Francisco, where I want to be. So it's super hectic, but very positive :dizzy:.

Food-wise I've been doing fine, although weight and stats are the same as yesterday. I'm not disappointed in this, though, since I lost 5 pounds last week. I'm not sure that the calorie cycling is working but I'm monitoring it and seeing what's going on. I feel a whole lot better though - less bloated, like my jeans fit better (though not as well as I would like) and I plan on continuing with what I'm doing since I like it and it's working.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Tam

My goals are:
5 days a week-sprinting--HARD

Lose at least 3 more pounds

Like seagirl I also want to keep track of what I eat better. I seriously need to download that application from itunes.

This is the start of a better me! YAY!!!

david 07-22-2009 06:21 AM

another really good day!!!

seagirl 07-22-2009 07:56 AM

Got out the tape measure, and I've lost 1.5 inches off my waist. Take that, scale!

2 hour yoga workshop tonight!

Great to see everyone keeping up with their goals!

Alright 07-22-2009 08:14 AM

Lori, I've been using Rogaine for 10 years now. I noticed hairloss, doctor did a scalp biopsy and said, yup, you're losing hair. In my case it is "miniaturization of the hair follicle." Dad was bald young, grandma bald too. December is a long time to wait though.

Still just chugging along with the diet. It's not a big deal at this time. It's actually kind of a dull phase. The excitement of the big start is over, yet I have a long way to go.

It just is what it is....a diet. Eat less, exercise more, and track track track so I don't fall off.

Haven't stepped on the scale for a few days.

Doctor said it sounds like I might have fibro, she didn't say anything definite though. I'm treating my body as if I do, and being kind to it.

Wishing a good day to all.

MrsLovett 07-22-2009 08:15 AM

Hi everyone!

I've lost again! I'm down to 130.0 lbs. 5 more pounds to go. Actually, I think I might be going a *little* too fast for my dietitian's liking (at least according to the weekly weights I keep on my calendar). I lost 11 lbs. last month and she said it was too much. Since I saw her on the 7th of this month, I've already lost 8.5 pounds. Is that too fast or just right? I don't know.

My ankle is out of the brace as of yesterday! It feels so great! I do have to do some "at home physical therapy" though. It consists of balancing on the left foot (I sprained my left ankle) for thirty seconds at a time until I get up to 3 minutes for about 2 weeks. It's to strengthen my ankle. I wonder if this counts a strength training exercise, heehee:) I'll take any I can get!

I exercised over an hour, all before 6:00 a.m. My nephew came over at that time, and I have bad insomnia, so I had to get it in pretty early. I get up at 4 a.m. on a late day. And that's after tossing and turning. Plus my dad wakes up at 5 a.m. and I don't like to work out in front of other people for fear of looking stupid, so I get it in mostly before then too.

That's all for now! Thank you for listening! I will update my tickers now:)

MrsLovett

Moralia 07-22-2009 11:02 AM

Sounds like everyone is doing awesome!!! :carrot:

I'm doing ok here... finally lost another lb.. so i'm at 143! Going sooo slow now though, so i've decided to kick up my protein, and stick to 1-2 servings of carbs a day, see if that helps a bit!

Mrs.Lovett... wish I was losing as fast as you again! I started out like that, but now am losing at a snails pace... blah! :p

david 07-22-2009 03:12 PM

just woke up...im feeling confident...glad to see everyone doing well....ive been getting a lot of overtime at work...lucky in this economy

That's great on the overtime... My hubby is getting overtime over the next couple weeks too, which is great cause I'd like to add more to savings!! Hope you have a great day! :)

linds 07-22-2009 05:04 PM

WOW! Everone seems to be doing so great on their goals and I am glad I can join the group. Granted it has only been a few days but I have been counting my calories on a consistent basis, which has me making helathier choices. No one likes to write down "half a chocolate cake" in their journal...I took my little one for an hour walk yesterday. I have done my strength exercises everyday and 2x yesterday. I even fit some yoga into my routine this morning. I feel great and am excited to see the final results. I have lost 1 pound already! Hopefully I can stick to this and lose weight slowly in light of my little one still nursing!
Keep it up everyone!

Goals:
Count calories
Lose 5 lbs
Exercise consistently

jamsk8r 07-22-2009 05:34 PM

Moralia, I'm feeling it, too. It's frustrating, but I'm fighting for every half pound these days. I've decided to try cutting my cals just a tad, like Lori did. If I skip the yogurt snack in the afternoon, that will be 100 cals, and I'm hoping that will help. I've already got a good hold on the carb portions other than that, so maybe just a little tweak will speed things up a bit, or at least keep the scale moving the right direction. I'm impatient now, to be done with the weight loss portion of this journey, and get on with maintenance.

David, congrats on the good eating, and the overtime at work!

I've had a good day so far. Did a fun workout at the gym, it was hard, but it was deadlifts, overhead and running (a longer run, though, not the evil sprints), so I really enjoyed that.

This afternoon, I'm working on a surprise gift for my trainer's boy who just turned 4. My trainer does strongman, and his son likes to do it too. I'm making him a little "strongman log" out of pvc pipe. If my idea works out, I'll paint it up, so it will look just like the real metal ones. Then, he can play strongman, and he'll think he's a beast! ;) I'm just working on this in my spare time, so it will be a week or two before it's tested, painted, and ready for delivery. It's a fun project, at any rate.

Tonight is skating, just 2 hours. Thankfully, my legs and...er..."glutes" finally recovered from last Friday's lungefest, so I should be able to skate normally tonight!

Linds, you posted while I was still working on this post. WTG on the walking and tracking your intake!

Also, we had a new challenger join us, and I can't see the name right now, sorry, wrong viewing mode (my bad), but I wanted to say :welcome: to the challenge!

Lori259 07-22-2009 07:10 PM

TexasLoser 07-22-2009 07:35 PM

Hi, all! Everyone's doing so well!

Cheryl & Moralia - I'm with you guys on the snail's pace weight loss. I lost 6 pounds quickly and then it slowed down big time. But, I'm determined not get discouraged - I've been down this weight loss road many times and know that it will come off eventually if I stay the course, right? I was down 1/2 a pound this morning and I'm hoping it sticks.

MrsLovett - Congrats on your loss ... you're doing great!

Lori - Sounds like you get a lot of exercise just keeping up with your kiddos!

linds - Congrats on your loss!

David - That's wonderful that you can get some O/T in these days. We can't have any where I work and it's a pain. Happy for you!

I'm sticking to my eating plan and getting my exercise in. Am up to 45 minutes daily on my treadmill at 3.5mph. Want to work up to 1 hour at 4mph.

I bought a neat calorie, fat and carb counter book and it includes fast-food chains and restaurants. I just wanted to have one to keep with me when I'm away from my laptop, and I don't have anything portable and electronic to use.

Saved up some calories for one margarita tonight and I'm looking forward to it!

david 07-23-2009 04:21 AM

another good diet day, no ot tonight (wed), but thur and fri are usually busier...im still scrambling to get back to 243...cant beleive i hit 200 posts....keep up the good work all

jamsk8r 07-23-2009 05:06 PM

Hey peeps.

Workout is done. We just had a play day at our gym, and practiced things we want to work on. I tried handstands again...still no luck on the kick-up to the wall, dangit! It's a confidence issue, but I'll keep trying. Did some pull-ups and olympic lifting and other stuff...it was fun and relaxing. :)

I'm home today, so I'm going to catch up on some work around here, maybe fiddle around with a project I'm working on in the garage, whatever. I'm just going to enjoy being home for a whole day, with no other obligations!

Chele615 07-23-2009 07:38 PM

Congrats on the 200 posts David....it's amazing how quickly the post count grows once you get familiar with the people and get settled. It's like overnight you have hundreds of posts! haha

My left foot is really swollen today after two days of TONS of walking around multiple malls while my friend and I had a shopping extravaganza! However, I was stupid and didn't think to wear something more supportive than flip flops! So, my foot is still swollen. I walked with a friend this afternoon and rode the stationary bike, but have spent the rest of the day with my feet propped up so that hopefully some of the swelling will go down. It hasn't been at such an uncomfortable spot in awhile.

TexasLoser 07-23-2009 08:24 PM

Chele - Hope your foot feels better soon! Keeping it elevated should help - would ice speed things up?

Cheryl - You have such fun at your gym! How's your project coming along?

David - Awesome that you had a night off from O/T. Have you earmarked your O/T money or are you just planning to save it?

I'm staying the course with calorie counting and walking on my treadmill. Would love to see the number of the scale nosedive, but I know that historically that doesn't happen for me ... it's more like a slow, painful crawl! LOL!

I'm hoping that this routine will become such a routine that my sluggish metabolism will finally surrender and the pounds will come off. How's that for optimism? LOL!

seagirl 07-23-2009 09:11 PM

I did zumba tonight for the first time!! :carrot: What fun! Hopefully that plus the yoga workshop last night will my weight loss moving again.

(I just coughed and realized the amount of ab work that I did the last 2 nights might cause some pain tomorrow.) But pain is good. It is weakness leaving the body right? :D

TexasLoser can you speed up the treadmill in intervals, or add some hills?

TexasLoser 07-23-2009 09:52 PM

Originally Posted by seagirl:

I'm hoping to add some difficulty to my treadmill as soon as I get past an annoying foot injury. I have a pinched nerve on the top of my foot and I'm on the mend but don't want to overdo it. So, for now, I'm just increasing the speed (rather than changing the incline). But, thanks for the idea - I can't wait to start making it much more challenging.

My goal is to get to 1 hour at 4mph. Right now, I'm at 3.7mph for 45 minutes.

I think you mentioned in another post that you swim in the ocean? Where do you swim? Sounds like a really neat form of exercise - and much more interesting than a pool.

david 07-24-2009 06:05 AM

texas, right now all money is being used to play catch up, we are trying to be as debt free as possible when we buy a house in a few months....another really good day, potluck at work, i brought marinated chicken....on saturday i will move the ticker even if i have to cut my leg off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jamsk8r 07-25-2009 12:21 AM

Chele, good luck with the swollen foot...hope it feels better soon!

Texas, yes, I love my gym. It is a fun place, and I'm definitely getting more fit! My project is going well. I'm building a strongman barbell (aka "log") for kids. It's at the "glue the pieces together" stage right now, which I'm hoping to get done tomorrow.

Seagirl, congrats on the Zumba class. I've never tried it, but have heard good things....sounds like fun!

David, good luck with the weigh in. LOL about cutting off the leg.

My report: Did the workout this morning. There were handstands in the workout today, but since I just practiced them yesterday, my shoulders were toast, and I couldn't even do one, so I had to sub it out for the workout. Funny, because about the time I think I should put something into my own warm-up or skills practice, my trainer puts it into the workout. It's tempting to just stop practicing anything except what's in the workout for the same day, just so I don't end up having days like today!

I got a new low today. Only 2 tenths of a pound lower than my previous a few days ago, but I'm happy for anything I can get. All told, looks like I lost about 2 lbs this week, which hasn't happened in forever! :carrot:

IMHO I would say you are losing too quickly. Not only is it not healthy to lose too quickly but you also might not keep it off once you lose it. At your weight now, you should not lose more then 1-2 lbs a week, maybe even less. Of course you had more to lose when you lost so much 2 months in a row, but now, slow down the weight loss. Having said that, GREAT JOB ON WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!!!!:carrot::carrot:

Help me out here...what is strongman and how does a log out of pvc pipe work?

MrsLovett 07-25-2009 07:39 AM

Hi!

I miscalculated. Typical! It was only 6 lbs., but I found out I was *also* wrong on the date. I saw her on the 13th... so I was still losing too fast. But I gained a pound over the last three days due to eating my mom's dinner (I don't usually, but it looked so good! ) , so I'm up to 131 lbs. Not changing my ticker just yet though.

Got a good workout this morning! Did some kickboxing, dancing, and the Nintendo Wii. I'm getting a new game that looks promising around the 29th! I'm excited! It's called Wii Sports Resort :D I pre-ordered it yesterday. Looks like it has all sorts of fun games on it. Can't wait to play!

seagirl 07-25-2009 08:30 AM

40 minute bike ride this morning! Along the shore. I love seeing all the people out early in the morning biking, surfing, walking and the old men sitting there getting tan.

Alright 07-25-2009 11:39 AM

Morning all. I'm about to head out for a long walk, get some calories burned. Yesterday I didn't feel great so I didn't eat much, only 1100 cals. Lovely on the scale this morning though...lol...1.5 lbs down. It would be nice to see it stay away.

Hope everyone has a good day.

tammay 07-25-2009 11:51 AM

Hi All,
I haven't been doing so well the past few days :(. Thursday was totally off and I ate junk food all day. Yesterday TOM came and I felt horrible physically and although I did stay within my calorie count, I ate a lot of foods I'm not used to eating like dairy and processed vegetarian "meats". All of that showed up on the scale of course and I'm back up to 150. I think I got discouraged because I was stalled at 148 for 5 days but I should have held out and continued what I was doing because I didn't realize that TOM was just around the corner. I usually have plenty of PMS signs that TOM is coming but I had very little this time (not sure why - probably the massive stress I've been under lately) so I didn't expect it.

I'm just juggling a lot these days, with 4 full classes and a training for another university plus a few mini trainings for a possible additional teaching opportunity for the university I work for now. That, along with the stress of going to San Francisco next week for yet another job interview (which may not happen at this point, since I have a phone interview on Monday with an online university that sounds like it might suit me much better and if they make it clear they want to put me in their training and give me a date, I will probably cancel the San Francisco trip, since at that point, I'll have as many teaching opportunities as I can handle right now and the SF job isn't as good a match for me as the others are) I think is just putting me out of sorts.

But I'm back on track today with my regular plan and I'm going to stick with it and not get discouraged if the scale doesn't move. I'm continuing to take measurements every day and I am seeing results (in small increments) in measurements and I know that counts for a lot so I'm going to try and keep that in mind.

I hope everyone is doing well!

Tam

david 07-25-2009 06:43 PM

moved the ticker 1 tick... i hate diets, i hate food, im going fishing!!! BAD MOOD OVER HERE!!! can you tell???

jamsk8r 07-25-2009 07:47 PM

Hey peeps. Workout is done...fun day playing with the strongman toys, and some truck pulling after that.

Jacquee, let me see if I can find a youtube or something for you. Strongman is a competition, and it can be for men or women, it just used to be only for men, so most people still just call it "strongman". It's about lifting heavy stuff, like flipping big tractor tires, carrying kegs, picking up heavy round stones, and putting all kinds of stuff "overhead", like logs (made of wood or metal), barbells, dumbbells, and various strange objects. Now I'll see if I can find a short video or pic to help explain things:

Okay, here's a short (15 secs) video showing a woman lifting one of the metal "log" barbells. That's the type I am making for the boy, except out of pvc pipe, smaller and much lighter:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVC3PuZrqdE

Here's a longer (8 mins or so) video that is a news show intro to strongman sport for women:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NlrLo...eature=related

Tam, I get crazy cravings the week or a few days before TOM, also. I track it on my calendar, so I can tell when it's coming up. It helps me stay on plan, if I'm craving crazy foods, and look see on the calendar, it's just hormonal, it's easier to stay on plan, and I don't get frustrated about the weight gain, either, because I also always either get stuck or gain a few pounds just before TOM arrives, and I know it's just a temporary bloat. (sorry for the girly TMI, David!)

Jacque9999 07-25-2009 08:04 PM

jamsk8r Thanks...now I get it!!!

david 07-26-2009 05:47 AM

just got home from fishing...got skunked....before i left i was getting ready for a binge....my binge consisted of a couple of cookies and a glass of milk....so it really wasnt a binge at all...then i went fishing and all in all i would call it a successful day (except for the skunk)

MrsLovett 07-26-2009 08:54 AM

Hi all!

I lost that pound I gained and then some! I'm down to 129.5 lbs!

Got in 105 minutes exercise so far today. What a workout! I hope that new game for my Nintendo Wii comes soon!

MrsLovett

Alright 07-26-2009 10:07 AM

I've been popping up and down all week, so I don't think I'll show much of a loss tomorrow when I weigh in. I know it doesn't matter as I totally stuck to my plan, but it still is a bit frustrating.

Lori259 07-26-2009 10:18 AM

Hey all, I haven't checked in for awhile so thought I would.

Hope everyone is doing great~I Am hoping to see a number under 188 today on the scale. I am kinda excited that I am so near to losing 2/3 of my wieght I need to lose an Plus very near to 75lbs of loss.
So I will do my best and see...........Will check back in again soon.

HUGS EVERYONE!

jamsk8r 07-26-2009 12:41 PM

Morning, all! :coffee:

Woke up early this morning, despite my evil plan to sleep in. (sigh) That's okay, though, because it's shaping up to be another scorcher outside. I took advantage of the early morning to actually water my parched garden beds and take care of the critters.

Found some eggs in the chicken coop last night, first ones ever, so the hens will finally be earning their keep around here. The rooster... well, we're not sure why he's still alive, except there was only 1 rooster in the whole batch, which hardly seems worth the trouble, so he just looks studly, I guess.

I'm home today. It's supposed to be a rest day from exercise, but rest days always leave me sore, and the scale pops up on Monday morning, so I might do something easy, like a longer run, or a bike ride. I'll just see how the day goes. Planning to catch up on some of the yard/garden maintenance, clean the chicken pen, probably do some weedwacking, and just tidy things up around here. I've been gone so much, the house and yard are getting out of control again. Well, that's the plan.

Oh, I got the boy's strongman log all glued together last night, so today I will cut off the excess bits, and give it the "kid proof" test (you know, try to break it apart, lol) before I paint it up.

seagirl 07-26-2009 06:50 PM

Cheryl,
I had planned to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday but of course was up at 6:30 am. Ugh. But then I was out on my bike by 8:30 and really grateful for that so I guess it worked out.

TexasLoser 07-26-2009 07:15 PM

Hi, all! Everyone's doing great!

I'm still sticking to plan and trying not to get frustrated that the weight isn't just melting off. LOL!

Did an hour on my treadmill this morning and 45 minutes this evening. Love weekends when I can get two workouts in each day. So much easier than week days when I get home exhausted and hop on.

seagirl - A bike ride along the shore sounds heavenly. How fortunate you are to live on the coast!

Lori - Wow! 2/3 of your weight is amazing! You're a real inspiration.

Alright - Me, too about the scale. I was up 1/2 pound this morning and had been down most of the week. I'm trying to focus on how my clothes fit on those days when the scale just doesn't want to cooperate. But, it's still frustrating.

MrsLovett - Congrats on your loss!

David - At first I thought that by getting "skunked" you meant you didn't get any fish ... didn't realize you meant a real skunk! OMG! That's awful!

Cheryl - That's so nice of you to make that strongman thing for your friend! I'm sure they'll love it.

Felt good about all I ate today. For dinner, I sauteed baby spinach, muschrooms, onions, tomatoes, broccoli (all fresh) in a little olive oil and chicken broth, with seasonings. DH and I had it over angel hair pasta. Pretty tasty and so easy. Fortunately, I have enough to take for lunch tomorrow.

jendiet 07-26-2009 10:49 PM
