TOM has gone missing:(

hello all. started a weight loss plan mid-may. i admit i probably went overboard on reducing calories at first, but I've now been pretty steady at ~1500 cal/day plus 3-4 days a week of cardio for 30 min. so far i've lost about 20-25 pounds.

haven't seen TOM since early april. i just finished up a stressful semester of college in early may but usually when i lose weight i find that I become more regular because i have a tendency to be irregular most of the time which i blamed on my weight.

is this serious? should i wait a while for my body to adjust some more or see the doctor right away?

*stupid question alert* Could you be pregnant?

If not, I might check in with my doctor next month. Stress can throw it off, and probably reducing calories at first since your body thinks "ack, we're starving, can't have a baby now."

*guffaw* haha no i'm definitely not pregnant:)

My sister stopped getting her TOM when she was finishing up college, she was stressed out, not getting enough calories and fat, and increased her workouts.

I'd still say check with your doctor of course, but it's not an uncommon thing, so I wouldn't jump to the worst case scenario quite yet - it could just be your body's way of adjusting.

Stress, change in diet, change in physical activity can all effect your TOM. Though with it gone for that long it maybe beneficial to just get it checked out if possible.

I agree, go visit your doctor. It's probably just stress, but it's best to get it checked out just in case it's something more bothersome.

You can have MINE, if you like

There could be a whole bunch of reasons for this, from stress to your diet to hormonal imbalances. I personally would ask my MD for a hormonal screening for all hormones, to make sure you are in the right range (they fluctuate depending on TOM but super high values can result in missing TOMS).

I'd go sooner than later, too...

Let us know!!!

Agree, go to your doctor. It might be nothing but it might be a serious problem too. Also it wouldn't hurt to run by your diet with them as well to make sure you are getting enough nutrition.

Mine was 4 days late, so I'm feelin' ya...but since April? Methinks a trip to the gyno is a great idea.....

See a gyno and get checked out for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.

I would love to not have TOM for that long....For me the last two months I have been EARLY. I have always been very regular...28-30...ALWAYS. Then all of a sudden every 3 weeks??? What's up with that? Well, when we change our eating habits, exercise routine, stress levels, whatever it might be, EVERYTHING changes...including TOM. I agree with other posters, talk to your doctor but also remember losing weight and changing habits will change TOM!!!

As everyone said above, if its not possible that you're pregnant it could possibly be just about anything.... however, when you're dieting, I've found that you're supposed to cut your amount of calories according to your weight and how much you have yet to lose, not just go all crazy and cut out calories like anybodies business because that apparently can cause vitamin deficiencies and whatnot. You're supposed to do it in a healthy way, depending on your Body Mass Index. If you like I can post the links that someone posted for me that I've been going on to help me calculate how many calories I should have that's healthy for me and still helps me lose...

I stopped mine in college for 10 months. Went to the doctor and they discovered that I had really low estrogen levels and gave me some pills to jump start and told me to come back every 6-9 months or so if I haven't had one. Ironically I'm now having them fairly regulary ever since I started dieting but I think it may be due to my iron intake. I've always been borderline anemic but I've made a big point to increase my protein intake and my iron's gone up too. Use to call it my TOY (time of the year) and loved it. This monthly stuff stinks. :P

mine came a week and a half early yesterday since I have been working out.
