Default Cooking tips...

So I started eating egg whites in the morning! I love them! I have to admit I put 1/2 tbsp of butter in the frying pan to cook them though. I also will put butter in my veggies when I have them and on my toast and so on. I love my butter. Does anyone have any tips on what I can use that is less calories but tastes just as good instead of butter. I am guessing I will never fully get away from butter but if I can limit it like I do my Pepsi (went from 3 a day to under three a week) it would be better then nothing. Any tips?

I tend to use "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" Spray to top vegetables and potatoes. 0-calories and provides a little bit of butter/salty taste. For cooking, I keep Smart Balance (white container?) buttery spread. Apparently it's not for everything/everyone, but it works for me.

I probably would have used Pam or EVOO to cook your eggs, but I'm probably not as butter-crazy as you.

Pam has a butter tasting spray you could use instead of actual butter. I can't believe it's not butter spray on the toast and veggies. I use Smart Balance for potatoes or you can use laughing cow cheese (1 wedge for 2 slices toast or 1 baked potatoe)

Also to add flavor, add onions to the egg whites or try the southwestern style egg beaters!

This morning I used the Pam spray. Worked wonderful I never knew the difference. I am confused with the EVOO. I hear it is so good for you but 1 tbsp has 120 calories (I think that is what I read)? I was also appauled at the price. I need to do some comparison and it was 6:30pm last night at the store and still had to eat supper so I was not going to hang around there for long.

I also heard Jillian Micheals say that the I can't believe it is not butter spray (and others like it) may say it has zero calories but they are in there. She said to look at the ingredients. Since when does buttermilk have zero calories. I think it is because the serving is so small and they round everything down. I am guessing the Pam is the same way. I can tell you a spray of Pam verses 1/2 tbsp of butter has a difference in calories though so it is a good step for me.

I used to LOVE the I can't believe its not butter spray and would POUR it on my veggies. I discovered that it does definitely add up..........from the hungry girl website:

"The "I Can't Believe It's Not Butter" spray has ZERO calories if you use just a few spritzes. However, if you do what most of us do and spray to your heart's content, you can rack up calories and fat grams pretty quickly. Here's the scoop: 12.5 sprays is 10 calories and 1 gram of fat, 25 sprays (1 teaspoon) is 20 calories and 2 grams of fat, and 37.5 sprays is 30 calories and 3 grams of fat. In case you're curious, the entire bottle contains 900 calories and 90 grams of fat! Helpful hint: When it comes to this stuff, stick with spraying as opposed to pouring."

telemetrynurse - Thanks for the info on the butter spray. It makes sense to me. If you use it in sprays = ok or good. Pouring = bad.

I love butter myself and try to use it sparingly. Only a teaspoon at a time. I have never tried the PAM spray but will have to get some.
Just a curious question now...why do you not eat the egg yolks? I have 2 eggs every morning and eat the yolks.
