  • I am eating about 1500 calories per day and have been eating to many carbs daily. How many carbs do you eat a day? This week I am cutting out all bread and potatoes and rice and pasta. I have been eating them as long as they fit into my daily calories.I think its time to shake things up a bit.
  • I aim for 40% of my calories as carbs, 30% protein, and 30% fats.

    Jay
  • I eat about 70% carbs but that is me. I don't eat much bread, rice, pasta or potatoes. I do eat a good amount of fruit though.
  • I just dont count them. But when I do eat a carb, its a good one. Whole grain, veggies or fruit. I will never live with out pasta or potatoes...lol
  • I try to keep them no higher than 50%.
  • I basically make sure that I hit a minimum of 30% protein and let the rest fall where they may. Looking at May so far that gives me 35% protein, 24% fat... so 41% carbs.
  • My spark people says get at least like 160 grams, I try to get around that much, and only from good carbs like fruits and whole grains
  • I don't usually count calories or grams, but when I occasionally check, I can be anywhere from about 45-60% carbs, and about 175-250 or so total carb grams, of which 30-50 will be fiber. I find myself eating less and less bread just naturally (I'm finding I love my grains chewier and nuttier), but I eat plenty of fruit, beans, and don't fret over starchy veggies. (I'm vegetarian).
  • i'm not sure if i count because i'm on a bit of a modified plan due to pcos and insulin resistance, but i'm supposed to eat 130 grams of carbs per day maximum. so usually i end up right around the 130 mark because i love carbs.
  • I count calories but don't count carbs. Just because of personal preference, I don't eat bread or rice. And because of their calories, I don't eat white potatoes.
  • As long as you are watching your caloric intake, does it matter how many of those calories are from carbs? I think we have all become too carb-phobic. Carbs can be extremely healthful foods, as long as they are not from white bread, white rice, or white pasta and the like. Or candy and junk food. I try to get a healthful balance of foods: whole grain starches, protein foods, fruits and vegetables, and some dairy. I limit my oils and fats a bit, but only because they up my caloric intake if I eat too many fat calories. I had a piece of whole grain bread with my salad at lunch, as well as a whole grain chocolate chunk cookie. I will eat wheat toast or English muffin with my eggs in the morning, or whole grain cold cereal or oatmeal. At dinner, I usually have a potato, sweet potato, brown rice, whole grain pasta, or whole grain dinner roll.

Agreed, however, some people find that diets higher in carbohydrates leave them craving more food. I love fruit, and usually have at least three servings a day. However, if I eat it on its own, it doesn't satisfy me. Add in some protein and no problems. Even good carbs (fruits, whole grains) can cause a spike in blood sugar, and the drop can leave you feeling hungry.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice.I will most likely really just watch potatoes and bread and pasta and rice..all the white stuff. My weight loss has slowed and i thought it might be a good time to check out the macros. I do know I cant eat fruit without a protien or else im starving a little while later. I usually eat only wholewheat bread but i think even with that I have been overdoing it.
  • I never counted carbs, although I try to make right choices, so the carbs I do consume are from veggies and the like. the calorie counting alone is working, so I tend to concentrate on just that.
  • If I eat fruit by itself, I'm usually left feeling hungry as well. So I usually use peanut butter with it. For breakfast, I'll have a banana with peaunut butter spread on it, and then about two tablespoons of rice krispies cereal on the peanut butter. That way it gives me some protein, and its a yummy crunchy snack. Peanut butter is also great with apple slices.. I know i'm a peanut butter addict.
