Favorite low calorie flavor boosters?

The lowest calorie foods tend to be kind of plain if you just ate them raw and blank but I know people have ways of jazzing them up. So what are everyone's favorite tricks for adding flavor to their food?

Mine are grilling vegetables on my george forman with a healthy dose of cajun seasoning (I'm lucky enough to have low blood pressure so I don't worry too much about sodium except for water retention).

I also roast red, yellow and green peppers in a dry frying pan then dice them and keep them in the freezer in table spoon size servings to add to various things (likewise sliced mushrooms that were cooked in a little fat free beef broth). Then I try to bulk up high calorie things like pasta by tossing it with more grilled squash or zuchinni and peppers.

For meat I'm way too fond of buffalo sauce and I found a bottle that's mostly vinegar so it's about 10 calories to the tbs or I'll coat a chicken breast lightly with approx 1 tbs of bread crumbs mixed with 1-2 tbs italian seasoning.

Other suggestions?

I like getting a mixed bag of frozen veggies with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, zucchini and squash and sprinkle lots Natures Seasoning on them broil in the oven. I put Natures Seasoning on just about everything. On chicken its Ms Dash seasonings, either Garlic and Herb or Chipolte, to turkey burgers, I had grill seasoning, Cholula hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce while they are cooking

I've been making pico de gallo like it's going out of style lately, finely chopped tomato, onion, cilantro with some salt and a splash of lemon juice. I put it on fish, burgers, chicken, etc. Also I eat a lot of grilled tilapia and put paprika, garlic, red pepper flakes and cilantro on it before I grill it, yummmm.

Curry powder, paprika, vinegar, fresh herbs, well any number of spices really! I find that you can make really interesting combinations that completely change the flavours of things.

I like the McCormick's Grill Mates--especially Montreal Steak and Montreal Chicken. You can use these on a variety of foods, and there are a lot of other flavors as well. Very easy to use!

I also like to add a few drops of Tabasco Mild Jalapeno green chile sauce to eggs and burgers. It is not really hot, but it has a very nice flavor.

  • I love to sprinkle cinnamon on apple slices. Not sliced in wedges, but sliced in rounds, paper thin.
  • I use chicken broth to flavor a lot of things and to not use oil
  • Lemon goes well on lots of things.
  • Rice Vinegar, Balsamic Vinegars and other vinegars.
  • Adobo seasoning is great on roasted chicken.
  • Cumin is one of my favorite spices for roasting veggies.
  • Salsa is great and very versatile.
I like to roast a whole head of garlic and then use it in soups and for veggies

I'll use a teeny bit of grated parmesan to flavor my steamed veggies. I know some people think the powdery stuff is awful, but I sprinkle a little of that with some bread crumbs (very little, like a tsp per serving) and garlic salt on some steamed green beans.

Forgot about that one. I use grated Parmesan cheese as well on veggies. Very flavorful, and great spreadability for very few calories.

Garlic and more garlic

Red pepper flakes topped on pastas with veggies, on soups, one eggs...

Curry and cumin and cinnamon and red pepper blended to season chicken, pasta dishes, rice dishes, roasted veggies
