Question For Calorie Counters....????
Ok < I should know this but I am unsure plus I am too tired to Google since I get a zillion different answers....My Question is Do I eat more if I am more active?
I am on approx 1400 calories a day. When We have had nice Spring like weather like yesterday & today I have felt weak Because I am walking outside Along with my normal exercise ect and Just totally more active.I felt like I hadn't ate at all on those more active days.(I have only been calorie counting since November so I have been exercising Indoors~Now I have added tons of outdoors activity.) I have ate 1600 calories on those specific days will this be ok? Or should I stick with the 1400 still? I am outdoors most warm days and will be a very active gardener, So I was wondering if ya'll could help.:D SO I GUESS MY QUESTION IS ~Should I stick with where I am Or up them Because of more activity On the more activity days only or not at all??SOMEONE HELP PLEASE BECAUSE I DO NOT WANNA BE AT A STAND STILL OR TO REGAIN.I WANNA LOSE LOSE LOSE! |
You can eat more if you are more active--and you should. But, you need to track what you are eating so that you don't end up eating a LOT more, just because you are active. That's the mistake many people make.
And, make sure if you add a couple hundred calories, that they are nutritious calories and not empty junk foods. Foods that contain protein are good to feed your muscles. Good luck! Jay |
I would say don't eat more because you are active. You want to create a deficit. If you are active and you eat more, then you nullify the calories burned during the activity.
Make sense? |
1600 sounds ok to me if you feel better on that much. if you are getting too hungry on 1400 you might binge, so better safe than sorry. try it out for about a month and see if you continue losing or not.
last year I was pretty active walking alot and going up and down stairs but I was eating whatever I wanted..not over eating like now, but eating bad foods that probably added up to alot and I didn't lose any weight and started gaining... so I'm believer it's all about calorie deficit and healthier foods. |
I definately don't, even if I work out at the gym for an hour or more. It's all about what works for you, and you just need to use trial and error at this point, I think.

OK, I will try to see how it goes both ways...I have always felt full with 1400 until I have become more active on the Nice spring like days & have held strong on that number for months with no problems. Maybe I should have also said that too LOL~Been a long day so I forgot.~Anyways I will try to stay with the 1400 and If I feel sickly Or starved I will up it al little bit as I have on just those days only....I am in no way wanting a cheating method...I am just More active On nice sunny days...I walk indoors about 1 & 1/2 to 2 hours a day Since my weight loss journey has begun and with the nice days I am walking up hills For about 3 extra hours or so....Plus Doing yard work...(picking up sticks ect)MY yard is all up hill~I am high on the hill~LOL
Anyways~Maybe I was just feeling weak/sickly from the change. I Just felt like I did when I started out on 1200 calories which I changed quickly to 1400 Because I WAS SO HATEFUL AND SICKLY FEELING at the beginning of my weight loss journey.....So Wish me well~I have worked to hard to goof up my losses~40lbs is a MAJOR accomplishment to me so far & I hope to reach my goal before my birthday in DECEMEBER!I got 69lbs to go! |

Lori, for protein I like 10 raw almonds or 4 egg whites done in the microwave. Either of these options are 60-70 calories. You could also have a one of those grilled chicken breasts that come already cooked. It is high protein and one serving is about 150 calories. A can of tuna would also be a good choice. You are rockin' it girl so just keep it up! :)

Awesome thighs ~thanks a zillion~I eat eggs about 2 times a week or so~Never tried almonds BELIEVE IT OT NOT LOL!~But will check into them. I do eat grilled chicken so Thats A plus. Tuna~I never thought of. Anyways~I've been doing great But just felt Shakey starved/sickly with more activity. But maybe that just the signs of the Weight leaving!!! (I HOPE ) LOL:hug:THANKS THIGHS~oh and p.s I will get ya that pizza recipe soon girl...I promise. |
You know, I always aimed for a deficit while losing weight and KNOW it's the way to go - but on the very rare days I felt weak or sickly as you say, I always made sure to eat a few hundred more calories of quality food. 200-300 (sometimes more if I was particularly active) extra quality calories when I needed them never screwed with my loss, not once! I needed power and fuel to do it again the next day after all - I would have burnt out quickly if I had felt continuously hungry or weak.
Shaky, sickly or weak is not the way to go IMO or signs of the weight leaving! I've rarely felt that way but have never considered it a good sign. It was similar to a low fuel or low power warning in my case. Look at it this way, some days you rev your 'engine' higher than others. Those days your engine will require a tiny bit extra premium fuel in order to meet the demands you are placing upon it. Not a ton, just a small amount of carefully monitored calories, just enough. Protein: I grill quick chicken breasts on my George Foreman, cottage cheese, egg whites, turkey, tuna, shrimp, salmon, tilapia, plain yogurt w sugar free sweetener, protein shakes and so on.... All the fish and poultry is SUPER easy and super duper quick with the aid of my George Foreman grill, under 130 calories for 4 ounces. Perfecto! There are different versions of those grills, from simple to very frilly - a basic model runs under $20.00 at Walmart and has been indispensable in my kitchen. You'll get that goal girl, I know it! |
Thanks FB! You have made me feel a Zillion percent better....I am so glad you posted here for me.I am so proud of you that you met your goal But you are still on here helping others~Your terrific..

A fellow gardener! Hooray!
I also love to garden. We had a warm weekend and I spent many hours working on the spring cleanup. By Monday I was wiped out! I just started calorie counting about a month ago, ranging from 1200 to 1500, depending on my hunger. I don't want to add more calories, so I've started to make sure that the calories I am eating are more nutrient packed, less empty calorie snacks. We burn a lot of calories working in those gardens! I really want that to result in more weight loss, not more food. I'll also add: if you've never tried almonds... don't do it LOL! You might love them. I do, and I have a tough time eating just 8. Nuts are loaded with calories... I'm trying to ease up on (not eliminate) nuts and fruit, and replace that with more veggies. |
LOL~I will not try them (Almonds)then ~last thing I need is temptation .
Where are you located at? I am in OHIO ~we had 2- 70 degrees days so I was In HEAVEN! Its suppose to get 57 today. I bought a home 2 years ago and I find a new flower here and there each year!!!~There wasn't much left here by previous owners and neighborhood snatchers But Like yesterday I found some crocus (purple) ones bloomed and was thrilled. There was only 4 of them but I was so happy! Anyways~Are you in to the twilight movie? My daugher Is making me get a copy for her Easter basket~she almost 16 and she loves it~I Haven't read the books yet But Plan too before watching the movie. Anyways,Type to ya later.Going to change my ticker I finally saw 218 TODAY! YIPPIE! |
