Default Knock on Wood (An awkward, guilty post)

Ok, this is a weird one. I have written, erased and rewritten this post three times because I don't want to jinx myself and I don't want to make anyone feel bad. So to start off, I am so happy to have found this group of women, and I am inspired and impressed by all of your progress.

Ok, when I started this weight loss idea and the calorie counting, I made a 5 month plan to lose 2 pounds a week, with a little room to spare in case it didn't work, and be at a healthy BMI by summer. I've been eating 1500 calories a day, sometimes a bit over, very rarely under. I'm not depriving myself - I eat healthy filling meals. I started at 185 on January 1 and I weigh 163 now.

I'm worried (not worried like I want it to stop but) that that isn't healthy. I'm not really working out, I wiifit yoga every day but nothing else really. I'm just a bit nervous that I've lost 22 pounds in a month. And I feel guilty, because I read about you guys working so much harder than I am.

So my question - is this unhealthy, and if so, do I need to change something so that I don't drop so rapidly? Or am I looking a gift horse and 25 year old metabolism in the mouth and I should just hush it and enjoy?

Thanks.

May I be the first to say "I hate you."

lol jk!

I'd say as long as you aren't feeling tired or exhausted or having any problems than I guess you are doing fine? I don't know what your meals are but maybe if you are worried about nutrients take a multi-vitamin?

Correction I don't hate you I envy you- I wish I had that willpower!

Good job on your progress! I don't think it's unusual to see a large drop in weight in the beginning. As Beerab said, if you feel energetic and are not starving, I think you should keep up the good work.

your doing great! I I hear you too- I have not been excerising at all for the past few weeks and dropped 17 lbs! I was gettign worried that I was losign too much to fast- but theres the thing we are both only into this new lifestyle for a month now- were still new to the game.. weight always comes off faster in the beginning! thatsthe great part eventually it will slow down. right now count your blessing and be happy it's coming off quickly. now if your still losing 22 lbs a month 2-3 months from now then I say increase your cals to maybe 1600-1700 and see what that do es.. if you can eat more and still lose constantly you might as well!I too was at 1400-1500 and now I up'd my cals to 1600-1700 because I'm still losing just as fast one day we won't be able too- might as well while we can

Congratulations and I'd agree with everyone who posted, if you aren't feeling ill or anything, don't worry. That's a good result and you are eating a healthy amount of calories and not planning on going much lower, which is good because you really don't want to drop cals too far because it'll leave you with no wiggle room as you lose weight and need fewer to maintain that.

Sounds like a win-win situation. I do think if you have questions and concerns of this nature, you need to talk to your medical provider and see what they say, but hey, enjoy.

The people on Biggest Loser are killing themselves for this kind of result.

Don't worry, you probably just dropped a lot at first because of factors like cleaning up your eating habits, working out more, maybe you cut salt? It doesn't matter. I do think you might level off but that 1500 calorie is the magic numbers for a lot of people who are successful at losing weight.

I aim for an average of 1550 but seldom achieve that, lost the bulk of my original weight at 1800-2200 cals per day. Everyone is different.

You and I are in a similar boat- not the same but kind of. I started at 155 almost 5 weeks ang and am currently at 136 going for 130. So I lost almost 20 lbs in about a month too. I eat about 1400 daily and don't work out much either. I'm starting to change that NOW but for the last month it was almost nonexistent. So I think you are ok... you haven't drastically cut anything and it's not like you just lay in bed all day! haha

So congrats on the loss! You're not going to jinx yourself by telling us but I have a feeling the closer you get to your goal the slower it will come off. it always does!!

Keep it up!

Shut up!

You might want to add some exercise in there to make sure you aren't losing too much muscle. That's the main danger--we don't just lose fat. Other than that, enjoy!

Enjoy that 25 year old metabolism!

I went to the doctor complaining that my BC pills were making it harder to lose weight and was informed that it was more than likely my age, not the pills. Oh to be 25 again....

We're all different! I don't think anyone here is going to hate you for your success....if we did, we'd all be in such a bad place emotinally that none of us would be losing anything much.

We're all on the same journey, sister, and most of us are so happy with our success and proud of ourselves that we don't need to compare ourselves to others. I'm really happy that you're doing so well, but that just makes me feel more hopeful.

Good job! Everyone is different so if its working for you thats good! As long as you FEEL physically good and have the energy to complete day to day tasks you should be just fine! As previously mentioned, if you have concerns speak to your medical care provider.

I wanna lose 20 pounds in one month! How is the **** do you do that? Kudos to you! Don't be discouraged if you don't lose much weight in the next month, though, just remember the month that you lost 20 to keep yourself motivated! :0) YAY for losing!

Hey there way to go... We would never hate you for losing so fast in this forum. I agree with all the others if you aren't depriving yourself and eating right I say stick with it.

Yay for you! Back in the day, I lost weight that fast also. I am 53 now and my metabolism has slowed down quite a bit...it's taken me since Labor day 2008 to get from 157 to my current 144. I agree with the other person who said you should exercise to avoid losing muscle mass. I recommend some light weights to get started.

Enjooooooy it! Although not nearly as fast as you, I lost 45 pounds in six months and then it slowed waaaay, waaaaay down. So, that might happen to you so just keep doin' what your doin' and consider the rate a bonus :-)

Thank you guys - one, for being so extremely supportive and nice and two, for letting me know I'm probably in the clear. I'm definitely going to start being more committed to the exercise part - mostly because the 20 pounds all seems to be in the waist, and those thighs are still looking lumpy. Thanks a million to all of you. Internet friends (well, 3FC internet friends) are absolutely the best.
