  • Hi all!

I wasn't sure if there is a calorie counter weekly chat. I'm usually over in the 20 somethings, but I need support from people that calorie count too!

I've been playing around with my cals for months!!! It seems the more I eat, the more I lose.... so strange. My dr tells me to eat roughly 2200 cals and never go below 1800. But then I get confused, b/c the days I eat 2700 or even 3000 cals I lose like 3 pounds.... I'm 5'11 and 270ish. I work out a lot!

I would love to get to know all of you fellow CC!
  • Hi:

I'm not a regular to this board either but I am calorie counting and I found the same as you when eating on a higher cal range, I lose rather than going at a low range.

I'm over on the WW Core Board, and the love it over there,as the core food list are filling and you never hungry but WW want me to be on a 1000cal[20 pts] per day and to me that not enough food so I changed my calories to 1600 [32pts] in Jan. Lost for three weeks and than stupid me,lowered my calorie intake before w-i and I gained back 1.5.

I'm not sure but with your height & weight you probably going into a starvation mode when you lower your intake, and than when you eat more the body gets the energy you need and it loses the weight.

Good luck in your weight loss journey.
  • Beach- I love your name by the way! My last name is Beach so I just love it! Thanks for your input. It was hard to think that at 1800 i was starving myself. But I'll burn 1000 easily with my workouts, so I probably am. How tall are you?
  • Hi Here We Go Again

I picked that user name Beach Bum because I love walking along the beach. We have several beaches in our area to choose from and I try to go to several whenever the weather co-operates.

I'm, 5'0" tall, and no matter what health web sites tell me that I should be or eat a certain amount I'm going to do what I think is right for me.To my surprise I lost weight being on a higher calorie range than being on a longer one.

Other than walking, I use my manual treadmill or stationary bike for 45-50 mins each day,so I think that I 'm burning enough calories,to replenish them,on a higher range.

While I was looking at some of the post I noticed that they have a Jan chat thread. Will join them tomorrow.

    Have a great afternoon
  • Hey beachbum! I'm so glad you're on here. Obviously cc don't do a weekly chat. lol I'm glad I'm not all alone!

I feel you on the eating more cals and all the websites are wrong. lol I am starting with a trainer on Monday. I'm so excited. She told me that she doesn't think I'm eating enough. With the intense workouts I'm not eating enough. She told me to jump up to 2500 cals min on really intense days. So weird! Where do you live? I live in Sacramento, but from Arkansas.
  • Hi, we have a monthly chat that we use. Why don't you change the name of this one for February and we'll continue on this one if you want. Or keep it if you prefer a weekly to a monthly.

Thanks girl! I wasn't sure... I just know I need support and to chat with fellow CCs!

How do I change the title? It wouldn't let me.
  • Go to Edit and then click on "Go Advanced" and you should be able to change the title. Don't worry if you can't. We're all here for you. I love counting calories.

I'll send everyone over here to this new thread.

ETA: Ok, I just told everyone to continue our chat on this thread as February is almost here and we'd have started a new thread on Sunday anyway.

I was at the dentist today getting the preliminary work done to have a crown put on one of my teeth. I was in the dentist chair for two and a half hours and my gum is sore tonight and I have some blistering on the inside of my lip and mouth. The blisters don't hurt, though. The gum is swollen around the temporary crown where the instruments of torture were attached. The dentist used an awful tasting medication in my mouth. (((shudder))) It tasted like a concentrated dose of grapefruit membrane and pith. It was so bitter and it started trickling down my throat. I gagged at one point. I've never had anything so awful in my mouth for so long before. I didn't eat much breakfast before I went to the dentist and I never ate lunch because I was shopping and my mouth was still in a deadened state. I was afraid I'd chew my mouth instead of my food. I had a small yogurt in the car in the grocery store parking lot. I couldn't taste on one side of my mouth. When I came home I felt like I was eating everything I could get my hands on including potato chips. Didn't do much damage though because my calories were just over 200 for the entire day until I got home.

I weigh in tomorrow and hope I can reach my pre-Christmas weight. I have only 1.5 pounds to go and then I'll be starting on the old fat, ha, ha. One of the dental assistants didn't know me today. I haven't been at the main office in about 2 years. She said she couldn't put the body with the name and I had her confused. Then of course she wanted to know how I'd lost the weight, etc, etc...She said she starts every Monday and by Friday it's all over. I know how that goes. Been there, done that.

    Ok, catch you all later.
  • Can I join in? I'm new here too & currently doing Extreme fat smash. I've done hours and hours of reading and thinking and have come to determine that counting calories would be the best thing for me. Could really use you guys' advice! I'm gonna finish out this fat smash for the week & starting counting cals on Monday!
  • Hi - Found my way here!

Good Luck tomorrow Retire!! two days til weight in for me, I'm only two weeks in but I feel lighter already! Tryed to go for a big walk today but got rained on! so much for summer! Hope fully I will reach my first goal this week of 5kgs (11pound) fingers crossed. I've been really good, didn't give in to the temptation of eating Mums truffles the other night - just had an extra helping of lettuce salad.

For some reason my Ticker woun't show up - What am I doing wrong???
  • Miss Loud great victory with the truffles. Sorry can't help with the ticker but I'm sure some one more technically inclined will help.

I weighed in this morning and lost another pound. Only half pound from my pre-Christmas weight.

Gotta run and do stuff. Catch you all later today.
  • Hi,
I just started calorie counting last Monday and I lost 5 lbs! I've done the WW points in the past and was allowed 26 points, which is 1300 calories and I was always hungry. So I picked 1800 calories as my limit, and except for yesterday, I wasn't able to eat more than 1300 calories. I just wasn't hungry for more.

Anyway, I'm using the Daily Plate to keep track of my calories.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
  • I'm still trying to get my calories down to a point where I'm losing. I had 1,850 yesterday and am trying to work my way down to 1,500. I figure I didn't do too badly yesterday and I'm heading for an even better day today.
  • Just lost my post. Don't what I hit with my finger but it's gone.

Hi wenwen and Darby. Welcome to the chat. May I make a totally subjective statement of truth: CALORIE COUNTING IS THE ONLY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT COMBINED WITH EXERCISE. There it is in black and white. Not written in stone but a truth none-the-less. There are those who would debate my statement of "only" but even with any well laid out argument they may present I still stick to my statement. The reason being is that while counting calories I can eat what ever I want within my caloric range. Now, don't get me wrong and think that I feast on donuts and ice cream until my calories are used up because I don't (at least not on any regular basis ). I usually espouse a healthy well balanced diet for all people on earth but every now and then I want a piece of cake or a few French fries and with calorie counting I can work those into my daily allowance and not feel as if I've violated my "diet." Granted I don't have any medical conditions that would exclude any category of food or junk so I'm good to go on any food. And that's why calorie counting is the way to go.

It takes a few weeks to figure out where your calorie level should actually be. I gain weight if I eat over 1500-1600 calories a day. I do best between 1200-1400. I get too hungry below 1200 and who wouldn't? I don't think I have a metabolism. Must have been born without one, ha, ha. Or might have lost it somewhere around the age of 50.
  • Hi all! I'd love to join! I've been calorie counting/working out for a week tomorrow and have lost 5.5 lbs my first week. I feel better already.
I'm having about 1200-1400 cals a day and running for 45 mins about 5-6 times a week.

I agree- only calorie counting and exercise can get it done! and this will be much easier to stick to for life!
