Help Maintaing after Very Low Calorie Diet

Ok, now i know that i should not have done a very low calorie diet, but does anyone know how to maintain after doing a very low calorie diet?

I'm not a pro at this, but I would just start at a regular calorie diet (maybe 1500 cal/day). You might gain a little weight back (3-4 lbs at first?) but once your body readjusts you'd be set to start loosing again. At 6' tall you aren't at an unhealthy weight though, so you might actually find more help in how to loose weight in the featherweights forum on this site.

I'm not sure how many calories you've been eating, but I would suggest gradually upping it to an appropriate amount over the next couple months. So if you've been eating 1000, try something around 1200 for a couple weeks, then up it to 1400 for a couple more, and so on. Your body will probably need to readjust to a normal amount of food though, so I would expect a tiny weight gain at first.

I have a friend that did a 400 calorie diet along with taking phentermine.Believe it or not this was given by a physician.Anyway, when whe reached her goal she added 100 calories a day each week until she was able to maintain.I think she is currently eating 1300 a day and has actually kept all weight off and has not taken phentermine for a month. So I wound add calories back slowly each week and see how it goes.

Are you incorporating any exercise in your current program? If not, you may want to start with some light weight bearing exercises and some cardio to get your muscle mass up since especially on a very low calorie diet it's not uncommon to lose muscle mass. The buring of calories through exercise and the additional muscle mass should also allow you to eat more calories and maintain.

Giovanni, I cannot imagine a doctor giving you phentermine at your weight...... I am close to being as tall as you are and my goal is where you started. I too am taking phentermine and I have dropped the pounds relatively quickly and have worried about the same thing you are. I have 6 pounds to win a bet with my son, but after that I want to lose another 20. This is my last week to take the pills. I am going to switch to a lower carb diet to see if I can lose some belly fat in addition to what I already do..... Please, keep me informed on how you do. I am interested.

Best of luck. If you don't mind, post some pic of you so I know about to expect.......

Tammy
