  • SO I was really stuck not quite a plateau but for about 2 weeks I was gaining and then losing the same pound and half now... this was 4 weeks ago now for the past two weeks I have lsot 4 lbs a week! which is great to see and all haha I wont complain- But I am trying to loose this the right way and I know the healthy way to loose is abotu 2 lbs a week.. anyways since I burnt my hand I haven't been able to exercise either for the past two weeks. and I'm losing faster??? and.. I've been eating between 1400-1600 cals. some days as low as 1300ish and as high as 1700- kinda like calorie cycling but not intentionally- when I average it out it's been about 1500 a day... anyways the weight is falling off! every day I weigh in I've lost and usually a significant amount some times half a pound over night one day was a pound and half over night..

I've even starting allowing my self a treat every day like a 100 calorie pack of oreos or soemthing.. which I was not allowing myself to do at first. I even ate Mcdonalds for the first time this past week since my diet.. it's weird.. but I have also for the past two weeks been drinking LOTS of water which I was not so good about in the beginning and I've been making 5 servings of fruit a day... but combined with the fact I've been allowing my self an empty calorie treat every night as long as it's with in my budget and since I have not been excersing AT ALL- you'd think I'd have gained? whats up.?

I love the fact that I'm losing this fast- but I want it to stay off so if that means slowing it down I'll do it..

Should I increase my calories to maybe 1600- 1800?
  • Maybe...and this is just maybe, that maybe with having calories that low, as well as exercising put your body in starvation mode, and now that you're not creating the calorie deficit from exercise, you're losing. I'd say when you start up exercise again just up your calories just a bit. What you're doing isn't unhealthy in my opinion.
  • ya know..... that could be.... hmmmm.. *ponders* I think you may be right? I never even thought of that...
  • I don't really think you have anything to be concerned with right now. I've been losing steadily for nearly 6 months now, averaging 3.6 pounds a week. I've had weeks as low as 0.6 and high as 8. It's been common to have a 4-5 pound week. It's starting to slow up a bit the past month or so. I lost about 1 per week for a couple weeks, then 3 last week and will have a small loss, if at all, this week. I'm eating 1600-1800 calories per day and I'm exercising 7 days a week.

You could add a couple hundred calories for the next few weeks and see what happens. 3 weeks is a good baseline to see what's going on.

    Good Luck...keep it up!
  • thats good too know barb! I think I'm going to wait another week or two and then If I am still losing rapidly then up my cals- why not eat more if I can still loose as much
  • was your sort-of plateau on or the week before TOM? It could be that you were just dealing with the hormonal fluxes and extra water. It's not unusual for me to not lose anything for 10 or more days before TOM, but then losing 6 to 8 pounds in the two weeks after it.

I think it's mostly because of illusion- while you may actually be losing fat during the time before/during TOM, water weight will make it so you can't see it on the scale.
  • you know my plateau like scenario was during and right after TOM- maybe this rapid weight loss is still left over weight from TOM?
  • Some of it, probably. My guess it that some of it is water weight that flushed out of your system. Partly due to your time of the month, and MAYBE partly due to the fact that you stopped exercising. My body always retains water when I exercise, and when I stop, my weight drops again. Not 8 pounds, but it might contribute 1 pound or so. You never know.

My advice: If you FEEL healthy, and feel like you're making healthy choices for your body, go with it! I don't think you need to get freaked out over sudden weight drops if you're trying to do this a healthy way and not going under 1200 calories. In fact, you should just be happy while it lasts! Our bodies are pretty good at what they do. If something was really wrong, your body will probably let you know, and not by the number dropping on the scale.

If you are worried about losing lean muscle mass along with fat with all these big losses, there's another reason you should definitely start exercising again as soon as possible. Our bodies love exercise!
  • I do feel like I've been eating healthy definitely- I guess I'll just enjoy it while it lasts!!!! I've been drinking plenty of water, getting enough sleep, eating my fruits and veggies full servings a day, only eating good healthy whole grains, with the exceptions of my treats at night of course But all still with in range.. So I think I'll just be grateful for it now! the faster the better! LOL because I sure got a lot too loose!
  • with regards to the plateu you probably were on one. scales are not that accurate and can have an error of around 1% so at your current weight on your info that anything upto 2.8lbs. i know feeling. pick up the scales shake them around if you can place them on the wall and push on it with your hands to load them differently then put them on the floor and weigh yourself 3 times taking an average.

if i do this my scales can change by around 3lbs. what happens with a plateu is the body stops losing and the weight moves around. a curious little understood system but the tape measure shows it brilliantly the weight can actually shift from body part to body part possibly the body trying to balance its self.

after the body has settled down after 2 weeks or so its like opening the flood gates. the weight comes rushing off but like a damed river after the initial rush the flow will start to return to a more managable level. you'll probably see it slow to back to your normal rate of 2lbs

    totally nautral but bloody annoying
  • I use my Wii Fit as my scale and it's dead on accurate- the only reason I know Is because I have gone to the doctor every day for the past two weeks because of my bad burn to have it re bandaged and they weigh me each time and it's always the same as my Wii! but before when I used my regular floor scale it was not always accurate! so your totally right in that!
  • slimmingsi, I think doing that to any scale would just mess it up. The instructions with my Tanita say not to do anything like that to it.

    Jay
  • obviously tanita are different because they are not what we would class as "scales" in the general sense.i'm talking about simple plonk yourself on and it gives you a weight either spring or digital.
  • I think you are fine! It doesn't seem too fast considering you hadn't lost for a week or two before that week of great loss. Enjoy it and keep up whatever you are doing!
  • hey my last name used to be kramer! before I got married...
