i am now a calories counter

done the atkins. done the WW. done a homemade diet (which worked really really well but is far too boring)

now i've decided i'm going to calories count in vs out nice and simple basic science.

i'm using fitbug. its a web based pedometer. you buy the pedometer and subscription to the website. each day you upload the data via usb from the ped to the website. it gives you calories burned via steps based on your length of stride and weight.

also on the website is a nutrition page where you select what you've eated at each meal and how much of each. you can manually upload data for food if it isn't listed and this gives you how many calories you are consuming. along with a little dial that shows you calories balance i.e equal. losing/gaining.

its very very good been on it now for a week. the food uploading thing can take some time to start with but you can use set meals if you eat say the same breakfast every day as i do.

there is something about having to input the food online that kinda shames you into not eating it.

i'm on about 2500 calories a day atm. which is usually 700-800 breakfast 1000 lunch. 200-300 snacks and around 500 for dinner.

after dinner i upload my ped datas and if i have a difference of more than 500 calories i have something like poached eggs or some chicken. so that i'm never expending more than 500 calories above what i consume.

also aiming at 3000 steps a day for this week. will be 3500 next week

Good luck! Calorie counting worked well for me, hope it will for you, too! :)

Welcome to calorie counting! It's been working for me as well, but you're doing much more on activity tracking (I'm still a slug!), so keep up the good work!

Welcome and good luck, I am one of those who has tried all the diets and have found calorie counting works best for me.

LOVE calorie counting. It's so incredibly logical. That forced accountability to keep ones food intake in check can't be beat.

Welcome to cal counting and good luck to you! I love it I thought it would be so much harder then it really is. I really feel like cal counting aside just being aware of what I am putting in my body is so much better then when I was just blindly eating junk. I am very strict with my cals and I use fit day and I agree I feel crapy when I put something in there and see that it comes back really bad for me lol!

Congrats slimmingsi! I too have started counting. I am still trying to get the hang of it but I have lost 4 pounds!

karmakitty 01-19-2009 11:45 PM

I hear ya. I've done it all too. Lost weight on all programs but can't stick with it. I have a BodyBugg that I got for Christmas, and I am ready to start really keeping track now.

I have been meeting my activity goals for the last week, but going over on calories. I got to learn to control the intake as well. good luck to all!

Let us know how the fitbug works long term(ish)!

sounds like a great plan! I may have to check out the fitbug.

I've done it all too, WW, Atkins, (still on Jenny Craig/Body for Life for convenience) but am basically calorie counting. My doctor said that Atkins works also because you end up eating less calories of the denser foods. In WW, it gave me too much freedom to choose refined carbohydrates as my points which was the worst thing you can do when trying to lose weight. I lost 50 lbs on it but gained it all back plus 35 lbs! :yikes:
I have the sensewear unit and it's so true that I won't eat some things because I'd have to enter it into the food log on-line. I just don't want to see it! It's definitely made me accountable.
I've had a good last 3 weeks, weigh in is tomorrow! :carrot::carrot::carrot:
