mayo????

My dad told me that u shouldn't put mayo in your tuna because it's fattening.....he suggested i eat plan tuna on a cracker or something.
Personally I just can't do it...i've tried it and its just to....fishy for me.

So my question is....can i put mayo on my tuna????lol!!
I only use about 1-2 teaspoons....is that to much???

Mayo is actually a good fat but needs moderation. That amount should be fine. Mayo used to get a bunch of negative feedback because it is high in fat but a lot of mayos are made with unsaturated fats now making them a much better option. Try and find one made with canola or olive oil. Stay clear of hydrogenated soybean oil.

Asking if you can eat something or if something is too much is like asking if $5 is enough money. :D

The only possible answer is ... we don't know. Because we don't know what the rest of your diet plan looks like or what you've eaten during the rest of the day or what your fat intake is.

You're counting calories, I assume, since you've posted in the calorie counting board. So you have to determine if you have the room in your calorie plan to eat mayo.

1 T of real mayo is about 90 cals
1 T of mayo with olive oil is about 50 cals
1 T of light mayo is about 35 cals
1 T of dijonnaise is about 15 cals

Can you eat that? Should you eat that? Only you can answer. I personally like the dijonnaise and use 2 T of it when I mix a can of tuna. I count those 30 cals towards my daily total.

Whether you can or can't is totally up to you! :)

Try Myrical Whip?? <lol can't spell...

Kalilung 12-18-2008 04:52 PM

Mmmm, I've been having miracle whip on my tuna since I was a little kid... I'd never give it up! Just count how much you put in, and add it to your daily total.

I personally don't like Miracle Whip and am an ex-mayo junkie. :D

I rarely eat mayo anymore, but when I do I prefer the light mayo or mayo with olive oil.

PhotoChick 12-19-2008 10:30 AM

Yeah. I don't like Miracle Whip. It's sweet. Mayo isn't supposed to be sweet. :)

But then I grew up eating mayo made from scratch, too, so there's not much to compare to that.

I use light mayo and as little as I can get away with to make it work. Of course, I'm that way with just about all my eating so I can get in as much as possible while staying in my calorie limit. :p

PhotoChick - You're so lucky, I would've loved to cultivate a homemade mayo habit instead of the "sweet" mayo habit. :) The first time I saw it referred to as "dressing" instead of mayo blew my mind.

MotoMichelle: How is the olive oil mayo? I haven't tried it yet, but I'd like to.

WaterRat 12-19-2008 04:26 PM

I'm on my second jar of the olive oil mayo, and it tastes like real mayo (which it is, duh!) I cannot stomach ff mayo - texture or taste, and light mayo is marginally better, but it doesn't taste quite right. I don't use a lot of mayo so when I do, I have the real stuff. :)

I loooove fresh homemade mayo. My mom used to make it by hand! I still remember her whisking like mad while she drizzled olive oil. Most people won't eat homemade mayo now because of the raw egg yolks. It's too bad .. it's amazingly yummy stuff.

I use my blender to make it, raw yolks included.

I used to make my own when we had chickens. It is awesome! :)
