100 calorie food items

  • List has been delted due to inaccurate counts. Sorry for the gravely misguided information.
  • Thanks! Great List For a Beginner!!!
  • That's exactly what I ate yesterday. Came up to 8100 calories. What am I doing wrong?
  • ok hillsc...thanks for the laugh, i needed that.
  • thanks =)
  • Thanks that is a great list!!

  • Well....it is nice in theory, but many of the calorie counts are innacurate, as in, not 100 calories.

Some are off by 10 or 20 calories up or down...and a few are off even more than that.

It is important to be as accurate as possible, because it makes a difference at the end of the day in your total calorie count!

Some fruits and vegetables can also vary, depending on the size. A small apple, for instance, the size normally found in apples sold by the bag is 80 calories. Those are small size. The ones that you choose and bag yourself in the produce section can be 100-140, depending on their size. Cantalaupe is much better measured by the cup, rather than 1/2 of one...because they can vary in size from small to large.
  • Oops! I got my misguided information from this website. Sorry. Guess I should have checked to make sure it was accurate.

  • A list like this is a great resource!

I think the following things might have a lot less than 100 calories:

    medium peach
    medium apricot
    1 cup celery
1 cup cherry (or grape) tomatoes
    1 cup zucchini

  • Again, I'm sorry for the misinformation.
  • Innerchild,

What you posted wasn't really misinformation. A person can visit ten different calorie count websites and end up with ten different numbers for the same or similar item. I'm a calorie counter but I have learned to overestimate when I do my counts just for that reason.

Anyway, your intent was to inform and I'm sorry you were made to feel like you did something wrong.
  • Low Carb Snacks
    thanks for the tips

That was not my intent. I think that if there is going to be a calorie list of common food items, that it should just be better researched, that is all.

It would be better to compile a list of foods and their actual calorie counts, rather than trying to make everything fit into a 100 calorie list. Instead of making the list of everything 100 calories, how about making a list of common foods sorted out by type-such as a fruit list, etc? It is the sort of thing that if researched, and done well, I could add as a Sticky in the forum...

For instance, 1/2 a cantalaupe is going to be a different calorie count, every time that you eat one-because the melons are often going to be different sized. Like many fruits, it is best measured out with a measuring cup, like the watermelon is on the list. (BTW-the 2 cups of watermelon on the list is correct-100 calories for 2 cups. ) Cantalaupe is going to be 60 calories per 1 cup.

You are correct that the list should have been better researched. The specific 100 calorie list has been priceless for people such as myself who are snackers and don't like to eat full meals or for people who are on the run and want to grab something quick and need a fast calorie calculation. In additon, it lists numerous 100 calorie indulgences for the person with a sweet tooth. It allows for simple calculations of 100 calorie items, healthy and otherwise so that a person can see at a glance what has exactly 100 calories. Again, my apologies for posting an inaccurate list. I will take the time to create a more accurate list and when I do, I will post it.
