Apple butter

I was at the grocery store and on the Peaunt butter Isle and found some stuff called Apple Butter it only has 30 calories in it for 1 tablespoon. It smells awesome, but I don't know what I would put it on. Do you eat it on bread like Peanut butter or what?

I use it like jam or jelly. It's great on toast, bread, pb sandwiches, bagels, english muffins, on top of oatmeal, etc.

I make apple butter and pumpkin butter every year and it's the best stuff.

I love apple butter on my toast. Yum!

Yum, sound good in oatmeal!

Yeah for Apple Butter

Apple butter on English Muffins is superb.

I started using it to replace jams. Then I used it to replace cheese on morning toast, then to replace cream cheese on bagels. I just love it.

I couldn't resist answering this post... sorry if I'm butting in ;)

 Applebutter its the best and if your ever in PA and you see it, grab some, they make the best.

I saw two kinds in my local grocery store the other day... one was cheaper then the other (by alot) and when I compaired them both, the cheaper one had HFCS :( figures...

I'm dying to try pumpkin butter.

Do they have Trader Joe's in NJ? They have an awesome pumpkin butter. It's "seasonal" so stock up if you want to have it all year!

I love to roast squash (acorn, butternut etc) and then add a big dollop of pumpkin butter.

I love apple butter on a toasted 100 calorie mini whole wheat bagel. I would also like to try it with a little cream cheese. This might be a good alternative breakfast so you can shake up your normal routine.

I have never tried pumpkin butter. Does anyone have a recipe for it?

I kind of forgot about applebutter but now that you reminded me and esp since I know the calorie count I'm adding it to my grocery list :T

The recipe I use for pumpkin butter is pretty simple. I make it in the crockpot.

1 can pumpkin puree (or 15 oz fresh cooked pumpkin puree)
1/2 cup apple juice
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 T cinnamon
1 t ginger
1/2 t ground cloves
grating of fresh nutmeg.

Put everything into the crockpot, stir it up well, and let it cook on low for 6-7 hours. I usually let it cook overnight. I make 3x and 4x batches of this and give it away as holiday gifts to friends. You can add other things for flavor as well - nuts, maple syrup, etc. I just like it as is. :)

Mmmmm apple butter :) My dad used to put it on EVERYTHING! (he was the cook ;) ) He would find really cool ways to fit it into a lot of interesting dishes! (mostly desserts!)

(lol sorry, this wasn't a very helpful post.. I just love apple butter!)

Oh that's genius. I'm actually pretty picky about apple butter and haven't found a brand to replace my favorite brand I can't get in San Diego - it was really spicy and good. I will MAKE MY OWN! Genius! I guess for apple butter - just throw some apples in the food processor for a base?

PhotoChick 10-06-2008 03:23 AM

Apples in the food processor and add about 1/8 cup of lemon juice. The pectin in the juice will help the apples set up more. :)

Yay. Glad I could help!

This may sound strange, but I used to have my cottage cheese with a dollop of apple butter on top. Somehow the mellowness of the cottage cheese and the tang of apple butter went well together.

Pumkin

Okay so what would you use Pumpkin Butter with? That sounds Delicious but I have no clue what I would eat it with?
