It is hard not to turn to food for comfort. Things that taste good make us feel good. Why do you think we eat cake at birthday party's instead of mud pies lol. When we lose someone a part of us leaves until we find the energy to let our wonderful memories keep that person with us and fill us again. My children keep my father alive for me with their stories. My son remembers some of the strangest things like my father and he watching a spider and a wasp fight and my father explaining why the wasp was going to win. Funny memory for my son to have but that would have been the kind of thing my father thought was important for my son to know. My son told me that story again yesterday and it reminded me of the time a pray mantis stalked me around the pick nick table and I was terrified ( oh how i hate those devil things ) and my father laughing and laughing and telling me how it was going to eat me. UNTIL the darn thing got brave and was coming at me and my father plucked the thing off the table and tossed it way back in the back yard lol. I will never forget screaming for him to not do that and thinking it was going to eat him alive lol. Oh the wonderful memory's time gives us and how they keep someone fresh in are hearts. |
HI All,
I am having a good day. On track with calories and the past week has seemed so easy. I love it when its easy!!To bad we cant bottle it for the hard days. I have been exercising and i can tell a difference in my body again. Today is an exciting day for me..my daughter who just got engaged is coming home tonight and we are going to start making plans. I get to see her ring today!! I am actually looking foward to weighing in tommorow. I took a peek this morning and loved what i saw!! hugs to all |
I hope you're all having a better day than I am. I fell into the bathtub this morning! I was giving my mother her shower and I had just soaped her up and I was getting the hand held shower to clean her off. I always rinse my hand and the shower head off because my hand is full of soap. When I went to turn on the tub tap my hand slipped and I went into the tub and my thumb got jammed into the drain. Owwee, I thought my thumb was broken but I don't think it is although it is very sore. And now I can't use my step bands because I can't take any pressure on my right hand, although I can type. So I can't do my circuit workout for a few days until my thumbkin is healed.
Other than that my day was good. I weigh in tomorrow. Have a good weekend everyone. |
 Rain  I am so sorry that I am late with this, but please accept my condolences. I only got a quick minute to read your post the other day, but do know you were in my thoughts and still are!
I'm sorry I gotta keep this realll short, but I am off to pack, for my trip to CA tomorrow. I will be spending 2 weeks in San Diego, CA. So have a great one everyone!!! Take care!! |
Rain Dancer~ I noticed you are a "Daddy" girl (I always called my father Daddy regardless of my age too.) Mine passed a little over 6 years ago. It has been very hard, so I know what you're going through and what you'll have to go through. Make sure and take care of yourself emotionally! I, of course, don't mean with food though. I won't lie, it sucks. Feel free to PM me if you feel the need to chat.
|
Rain, so sorry to hear about your loss. It is so hard to lose a parent, no mtter how old we are.

Oh my gosh, you take care of that hand and don't over work it. Hands seem to take forever to heal and we sure do find out how many times we bump a sore finger for thumb when we have hurt it. dg Glad things have been going well. Have fun with your daughter today. |
Tinky, Zenor, Bargoo,. Thank you so much. Zenor, it is hard, isn't it? for you, sweetie.
Retiredone, owwww!!! You poor thing! I hope that you hand is much better. Tinky, enjoy your trip! Two weeks in San Diego... Sounds lovely. I hope that you get in some serious beach and ocean time. :D I had a good day, yesterday. Once the concrete left my stomach. ;) I ate well and got a total of 1303 calories for the day. I was still way too low by evening, so I had a bow of cereal with low fat milk while I was watching the tube with hubbs. It was good and got my calories up where they needed to be. And I must admit, I have missed having a bowl of cereal in the evening. So it was a lovely treat, too. :D I hope that everyone has a great day. A happy and on track day. :D |

I hope you figure things out. |
Hey, Tinky have a great vacation.
Last night DH was watching a documentary on sharks when I happened to see the sharks jumping out of the water for the bait that was held above the water. They would jump right out and latch onto the fish and wouldn't let go until they had bitten through and taken the bait under water. I looked at my husband and told him I was like that with potato chips. Once I latch on to a bag I don't let go until I have the whole bag devoured. I never imagined I'd come down with "shark syndrome." |

lol I knew if we looked hard enough we would find we have a syndrome lol. These days everything is a syndrome. Heck I thought I had seefooddiet syndrome. I see it I eat it lol. I like your explanation way better lol. |
***snort*** Retiredone, you are so funny. Shark Syndrome. I like it. :D Explains a lot... ;)
I had a good, on track day, yesterday. Got enough calories and plenty of good food. In fact, I had me some steak and potato for dinner. Yum! I hope that you are all having a terrific weekend. |
Hi everyone. Since starting last Tuesday I've lost 5lbs. Yay. I know most is water, but still. Looks better on the scale.

I always thought of it as 'Shopvac Syndrome' because I inhaled them. |

WAY TO GO I haven't changed even a pound lol. I really have no idea how long before the meads are out of my system again and I will start to lose again :( |
So...weird.
I was a Fat Smasher, but three weeks in, changed to calorie counting, because I couldn't face a bowl of brown rice again. For the past three weeks, I've held steady at 239, counting calories between 1300 and 1600. This weekend, I really sucked. My pops is in the hospital, so I've been eating fast food. I tried to keep it as healthy as possible, but according to my counting, I've eaten around 1800 to 2100 calories Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. And I dropped two pounds. I didn't really believe it Sunday morning, figured it was one of those flukes. But there again this morning, I was actual 236.5 I've heard, of course, about calorie cycling...but damn. :D Now Im excited for a more productive week. |
Canadianwoman, "Shopvac Syndrome" is a good descriptive term as well, hahaha.
Kelly46, 5 pounds is a great start and a great motivation to keep at it. The weekend is over and a new week of determination for me. I'm on some sort of mini plateau. It's been less than 3 weeks so I'm calling it a mini plateau for now. But I know if I continue staying on plan and exercising something will give way eventually. It's just so frustrating. I'm glad I don't weigh everyday because I'd be worked into a tizzy by now. The last time I stopped losing was in March when I didn't lose an ounce all month but I've lost 30 pounds since then so I know this won't last forever. I must continue eating well and exercising. (Repeat this 100 times.) :D |
Good morning, counters. :D I hope that everyone had a good weekend. To those of you in Texas, I hope that you weathered Ike well and that your lives are returning to normal.
I had a good, on track day, yesterday. Spent a lot of time on better things than thinking about eating... Helped a lot. :D Blech. Early morning brain fog... |
Im all the way up here in KY and live is far from normal here.. We had 70+ mile per hour winds yesterday that lasted about 4 hours as what was left of IKE passed over. It was awful!! We are lucky our power is back on and only lost a few shingles on our roof. Both of my older kids have no power where they live..and mom doesnt and neither does any other family members. I spent the afternoon yesterday helping clean up trees from our church property. Most counties around us are in state of emergency.
I am really sore today from all the heavy lifting and pulling yesterday but figured it was great exercise!! |

Hi everybody. I had an on plan weekend, I guess. I've been targeting 1450-1500 calories for maintenance. After my first week of that 'maintenance' level I weighed in last Friday at 126.1, which was actually 1.3 pounds up from the Friday before. I'm sticking with the 1500 the rest of this week to see what happens, but am dangerously close to freaking out and going back to 1200+/- calories... Today I weighed 127.3... hoping it is water retention from ramped up exercise....
I've exercised an average of 66 minutes per day every day this month, I've only taken two days completely off from exercise. I have this fear that I cut my calories too much to lose the weight in the first place and now I'm going to be that person that gains all the weight back as soon as they start eating again... Rationally, I still know that I haven't eaten enough extra calories to gain 2.5 pounds - I would need to have consumed 8750 over what I was burning for that kind of gain, and I have only increased a total of 2500 over what I was eating before over the ten days. The math isn't right for the weight gain, but the math doesn't always work the way you expect with the dieting thing... Have a good day everyone! |
Shark syndrome..... i like that. when i was reading your post i was like that is how it feels with food. I am not letting go until i have devoured it lol.
Hi to every1...... I had an ok weekend. saturday during the day was great but then i went to my parents house for my mothers birthday. Not so great there. But sunday i did very well. I haven't excersised in 4 days. But i am done with being lazy about because all it is doing os making me feel guilty so better to do it and not beat myself up about it. Right???? Right!!!!!!!! hope all is well with every1. |
Good morning, counters. :D How is everyone, this fine day?
I am well. Had a good on track day, yesterday. Went a little light on the calories, I just wasn't very hungry. Maybe I'll make up for it today.  |
Good morning! I had an on plan yesterday, and the scale had moved back down to 125.5 this morning (from 127.3 yesterday, 126.1 last Friday) so I'm feeling much better about myself and my maintenance... :)
Rain - I'm glad you are feeling better today, you have been in my thoughts this week. I've called my dad several times this week, just because, and every time I have I sent positive thoughts your way. Flabbyblue & Kelly - congrats on the losses! It always helps to start off with progress, even if it is water. It still is nice to see! :) retire - Isn't it great to be able to pick up those chips and only eat a few and put them back down? I actually bought a bag of Munchos a week or so ago and have only had a few of them. In the past I would have eaten the entire large bag in a day or so... dlp - don't beat yourself up. You will get back on track! |
not alot going on here today..op and drinking my water and going to jump on the minitramp during the new season of HOUSE.
|
Shannon, I am so happy to see that you are talking to your dad more. :smug: It is so important to never forget to let those we love know it, as often as we can. :D Thank you so much for your thoughts and hugs. It means so much to me.
I hope that everyone had a good day. I am nicely on track. Haven't had dinner, yet. I am just not hungry, yet. I'll get to it, later. I did get off my arse and did a fast 30 minute march in place today. I actually was able to carve out enough private time in this house to do so. :carrot: I hate to exercise. I admit it. But I do like how I feel, afterward, so it is worth it. :D There is a thunderstorm going right now. Thunder, lightening and rain. Love storms. And I am so thankful to have a laptop and a wireless modem. I just had to let the dog out. Again. Whenever a storm blows up, she freaks out and has to run outside and go potty. Even if she has just been out. Goofy dog. |
I've had a busy day today shopping with my 91 yo mother and I didn't eat as well as I would have liked. Didn't go over calories but eating was helter skelter instead of on time and well-planned. And I didn't get in my regular exercise today, either.
I watched HOUSE tonight while folding laundry. Where does all that stuff come from in the laundry basket??? DH did a load of darks while I was out and I had thrown a large load of towels in before I left for town. I don't think folding laundry is as fun as jumping on a mini tramp. :D Shannon WTG with the weight loss. You hang in there girl. |
morning...
my legs are sore!! 40 min during house on the minitramp. Hubby was trying to get me to go 45 but my legs were getting shaky. great op day yesterday and the scales appear to be moving downward again. going across the street to the playground today and pick up pecans the winds knocked down..I will have to let them dry, they usually fall after 1st hard frost. Should get enough to do pies for thanksgiving. hugs to all |
Dgramie, I so want a mini tramp. I need to wait until I am a bit lighter before I get one, tho. Don't want to break through, when I jump on it. You actually have pecans growing in a park across from you? How great is that? :D
Shannon, I forgot to say congrats on your weight loss. How is your transition to maintenance going? That is something that scares the bejabbers out of me. Trying to figure out how to eat and keep my weight constant. I think that loss is the easier part of the process. (Not that I am going to have to worry about that for a while... :D) I had a good, on track day, yesterday. managed to get over 1200, too. :D I am hoping and praying that I get enough alone time again today to get in another exercise session. As much as I loathe and despise it, I am actually looking forward to getting some more. I feel so good when I exercise and it ramps up fat loss. Yeah! Have a great day, counters. :carrot: |

I think laundry has to be my favorite chore. Pop some in do a video, pop them in the dryer do a video. Fold them and watch tv lol. What an easy chore. |
Shy, I don't mind folding laundry. I just think jumping on a mini tramp would be more fun. :D We have loads of towels every other day besides all the other clothes. I use 5 or 6 towels with mom each day beside what we use ourselves.
Eating much better today. On plan, on time and well planned. I have over 300 calories left for the day and I just ate supper or part of supper. I'm still a bit hungry so I'm going to hunt around for something else to eat and still have a few calories left for later on this evening. Dgramie, I just bought a bag of pecans yesterday and they were almost $8. Boy, would I ever love to have free fall pecans growing close by but they don't grow in our climate at all. Rain Dancer, you're doing great with your exercise the last few posts I've read. I'm at a point in my weight loss that I don't care who sees me exercise. I walk and have jogged 5k up and down my street 3x a week wearing skin tight exercise pants or shorts and a t-shirt. I have very few body shape secrets that the neighbors don't know about. They've followed my progress form skin tight t-shirts down to the same shirts flopping about on my shrinking body. Sometimes they stop me and discuss my progress. The old lady who lives directly across from us told me one day that I looked pretty good from the back but the front still had some work to do on it. She was referring to my spare tire and jelly belly. I take her with a grain of salt as she's old and phones me about everything under the sun. She probably discusses me with the other neighbors she phones. Haha. My fingers are really talking tonight. Take care and keep on plan. |

My daughter can go through a cupboard of towels in a couple of days lol. Have no idea what she does with the things. |
Retiredone, you are so funny. Perhaps I will get there, one of these days. But for now, I am hiding.
I did an entire hour of in home walking while I watched TBL premiere, today. Now that I know I can go an hour, no more excuses. Unless I get hurt. I sputtered and cussed to myself the entire time, but I got it done. And I feel good. I hate working out. But I love how I feel when I am done. Too bad they can't bottle the feel good and the results. Imagine the money-maker that would be! I am nicely on track. Still have a good half of my calories available. I am thinking snack time. :D Later. |
morning ladies,
well I am a little sore from all that bending over picking up pecans.I plan to go back today and get more. Im hoping to get enough to make pies for thanksgiving and christmas both. It will be so much easier when the casing around the nut actually falls off..they usually dont fall this early. I need to get the rest picked up today before they mow again. Im going wedding dress shopping tommorow with my daughter..got kinda sad last night looking thru the tubs we have stored in the basement. I found all her barbies and babydolls. I also got out my sons baby blankets and washed them for our new arrival when she gets here next month. I sure dont know where my little one wents..and to think i will be a grandmother in a few weeks. My youngest who is 18 just laughed at me.. scales are looking so good right now.. rain- great job on the exercise shy-I cant keep towels done either and we just have 3 living here now instead of 5 and i swear i have as much laundry as i did when everyone lived at home. retire- I refuse to pay 8 for a bag and i actually cut my last recipe short becasue i used a cup instead of a cup and half.LOL I cant believe how expensive things are now. |
Dgramie, every now and them I run across something of my son's from when he was a baby and I get all misty and Awww... Where does the time go? When they are tiny and crying all night, we pray for them to grow up a little, so we can get a few minutes of sleep. Then, BAM! They are all grown up, getting married, working and living their own lives and we are sitting here asking where the time went.
I had another good, on track day, yesterday. I am just waiting for in-laws to leave so that I can get my exercise and enjoy some precious, extremely rare alone time. My son isn't working today, so I won't be truly alone, but I intend to leave him to sleep as late as his little heart desires, so it will be almost as good. :D Okay, gotta motor. Need to get some stuff done. Have a great day, everyone and I will see you later. |

Good morning everyone... I had a hectic day yesterday, so didn't make it on here until late last night, didn't make it to all of my threads before I crashed! :)
I've been doing a good job keeping on plan this week, and I've exercised every day (except today... trying to decide if I'm going to make today the off day this week or try to hit the Weider when I get home...) so I'm feeling pretty good. I have had a pretty good week maintenance wise - the water weight of earlier in the week has gone away, and this morning I actually weighed a pound less than when I started maintenance, so I'm thinking about upping the calories a little next week. Don't know yet, I ramped the exercise up a little over the last two weeks, too, so might keep the calories in place and see what happens next week before making changes... not sure if the heightened exercise will last... I do need to keep working on water, especially on non-workout days... Rain - I've been scared to death of the maintaining concept. I kept saying "I know it is probably just water weight, but what if it turns out that I'm the person who gains ten pounds from an Oreo..." and that kind of thing. Raising the calories really freaked me out. But, it is going fine so far! And, even when I was retaining the water I still felt great, clothes fit fine, so I need to relax a little and trust the advice I've been getting from the other chicks! Don't worry, when you get there you will be able to handle it. My entire lifestyle has changed, so I find I don't want to go back to the way I was before - I didn't nap this past Sunday afternoon, I exercised instead! Never saw that coming... Good job on your exercise this week, too!:cb: Retire - I never liked exercising where people could see me... I used to be a member at a gym and was always self conscious... I think that is the real reason why I bought a house full of exercise equipment... That and the fact that I was too lazy to drive to a gym and hate going outside to walk in the hot... I'm jealous of your confidence to get out there with your working out! Dgramie - My stepson is 3 1/2, and I found myself looking through pictures of him as an infant this weekend and getting a little misty. I can't imagine what will happen to me when he is 18 and I'm looking back to now. :p Shy - Laundry is my favorite chore, too... I usually pile it all on the bed to fold at one time while I watching some I have been putting off on the DVR. I find it oddly relaxing... :hyper: Have a good day everybody! |
