Anyone Drink?

Well... its Friday :smug: and i would LOVE to have a Southern Comfort & Diet A&W Root Beer... ;) the So Co is only 70 calories per 1oz and the Diet A&W is nothing... so would it really Hurt Me to have ONE? does anyone drink? and IF SO... do you just add it into your Daily Calories? :?:

Schumeany 08-22-2008 06:40 PM

I drink, but not more than one drink and not more than once a week or so. Unless it completely throws you off your plan, why not? If I think I am going to have a drink on a given evening, I just save the calories for that day -- skip a snack, etc. to make room. I am now a little over a third of the way to my goal (12 lost and 18 to go), and it has been coming off pretty steadily so far -- about one or two pounds a week.

mandalinn82 08-22-2008 06:52 PM

For me, it stalls my loss, even if I count the calories. But sometimes, I'm OK with that. And you don't know how it'll affect you until you try it.

ghost 08-22-2008 07:11 PM

I drink all the time, I just make sure I figure it in to my alloted calories. So, if I'm going to have a 120 calorie drink I skip the bread with my meal, or I skimp on something else...I've even been known to miss and entire meal if I want to go to the bar wtih my girlfriends. I'm not saying I'm a poster child for responsible drinking and dieting...but it can be done.

ginny 08-22-2008 07:14 PM

I like my red wine a little too much ... I drank it fairly regularly this whole ride. Everyone is different and it wouldnt be too disasterous of an experiment!

CountingDown 08-22-2008 07:14 PM

I drink red wine daily. I just add the calories into my total. That being said, I have to be hyper-vigilant in eating very clean with the rest of my calories. No room for "junk". But red wine and dark chocolate are two staples in my diet :)

I'll refer you to a progress picture of me from June that I posted. If you'll look closely, you'll have your answer... :D

I don't drink often, but like mandalinn I find that it will stall my weight loss for about a week no matter how much (or little) I have. So, I don't count it since I already know it will have a negative affect on things. I know this makes no sense, but it's what I do.

RealCdn 08-22-2008 08:13 PM

Some weeks I have nothing, other weeks I'll have a couple of drinks. I guess I'm lucky in that I haven't found that it affects my weight loss.

aphil 08-23-2008 10:18 AM

I drink occasionally-usually a glass or two of good wine. (I am not a mixed drink or beer person.)

You simply watch the portion, and count the calories just like you would in anything else. However, there are a few things that you should be careful of. For example, if you eat an average of 1400 calories a day, you don't want to "save up" your calories for booze on Friday night. You don't want to nibble like a bird all day, eating only 600-800 calories of food, so that you can have 4-5 drinks that evening. NOT good. Eating well, and saving 100-200 calories for a small drink or two is much better.

I have seen way too many Fitday pages where the daily intake was a salad early in the day, followed by pretzels and 5 beers that evening. :o

carinna 08-23-2008 10:44 AM

Yes, I love a drink from time to time, and like the others, I save room for it and I'm usually fine. Did you end up having one?

BuuBuu 08-23-2008 01:54 PM

'bout spit out my drink LOLOL!!!!!!! That is hilarious! hahaha!

I just started having a glass of red wine with dinner. I don't restrict my calories anymore, although I still keep track and keep my fat to 10-20%, so I don't take anything away for it. we'll see how it goes. :)

PhotoChick 08-26-2008 08:18 PM

Yuh huh!~ :) In fact I'm sipping on a citron vodka right now (90 cals, well within my calorie plan for the day).

I love good red wine and I like to sip on icy cold vodka (a really well made citron martini will rock my world).

I just make sure I count the calories, as with anything I eat.

Today I'm gonna be over by about 150 cals, but I'm not worried cause I busted my butt at the gym tonight. :D

IF you're a Splenda-consumer, there is an amazing brand of sugar free/calorie free drink mixes out there...Margaritas, Mai Tais, etc.

Check out Baja Bobs. I just made the sugar free margaritas for a girls night, and while it wasn't the best margarita I'd ever had (which wouldn't be made from mix, I'm guessing), it was tasty, convenient, and added no calories on top of the tequila. A great find.

paris81 08-26-2008 09:32 PM

I've found that having one or two drinks a week is fine, as long as I count it in my calories.

Last week, however, I went out several times, having maybe one to four drinks/night about 3 nights that week--I found that even though I counted them in my calorie allowance, it stalled my weight loss. So that's something I can't do! Part of that is because of the bar food that came along with it! (All counted on my daily plate, and under my allowance, but just plain bad food!)

EricaBG 08-26-2008 09:47 PM

I love 96 calorie Mike's hard cranberry lemonade. I'll have one a week or so as a treat.

Hard liquor has the least amount of calories.

Shannon in ATL 08-27-2008 12:07 PM

I periodically have a light beer, the new favorite is Rock Green Light (84 calories), a glass of wine, or if I'm feeling really frisky 3 oz. of Bailey's. The Bailey's is the worst, because of all the fat from the cream. The beer and wine doesn't really impact me much, the Bailey's often causes a little stall...

BuuBuu 08-28-2008 06:37 PM

im glad to know im not the only one... ;)

zenor77 08-28-2008 07:56 PM

I like a glass of wine or a good microbrew now and again.

Ah, yes - DH makes incredible brews. And most of our vacations involve visiting several microbreweries. I just have to balance them out with really incredible choices (veggies, protein, etc.)

K8-EEE 08-28-2008 09:16 PM

I've just kind of figured out that wine is a bit dangerous for me, although I love it!.

I've had some success on the Sonoma diet which allows a glass with dinner....and I did fine for awhile but I got less careful with the wine. I would have a little half glass while cooking, then a GIANT GLASS with dinner that now that I'm DUH MEASURING!! Was really almost 2 glasses (if glasses are 4 oz....I was def doing between 6 & 7 oz.)

Long story short, when I got kind of re-committed after vacations and stuff, am replacing the wine with water or unsweetened Iced Tea for the week days, and having a SMALL GLASS....truly a 4 oz on the weekends. Only one week of that got my stuck scale to budge.

CountingDown 08-28-2008 09:35 PM

K8-EEE - LOL - I LOVE your to do list! So sensible, so do-able!

hmtklein 08-28-2008 10:58 PM

I do and i track it. I sometimes dream of a cold beer all day and I think 94 calories is worth the happiness it bring vs the feel of deprivation that would otherwise stall my success.

Stephanie Brim 08-28-2008 11:44 PM

I'm not a light beer person. If I have to drink light I'd rather have none at all. When I want a beer I tend to either count it into my calories or do extra that day to work off the extra calories. One beer every few days hasn't stopped any weight loss for me ever...it's the extra eating that does.

I'm a Fat Tire person. Sometimes you just have to make allowances. ;)

hmtklein 08-29-2008 09:16 AM

Fat Tire!

Ahhh Stephanie! I used to live a half mile from New Belguim Brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado now I live in NY. sob no Fat Tire or Skinny Dip. I am definately more or a Microbrew drinker than a light beer drinker but there are a few light beers that I can tolerate like Corona Light and Hooker and Ladder Light. Please drink a Fat Tire for me!

AngelMae 08-29-2008 09:32 AM

Thanks for asking, I was thinking about this the other day!! I too love SoCo but I usually have it with Diet Coke!!

Bad beer isn't worth drinking! :)

My favorite general beer is Shiner Bock from Texas.
After college I moved to Portland, OR, and got hooked on some of the really really good microbrews up there.

There's some stuff available down here in the Atlanta area, but I still love my Shiner for just regular drinking! :)

aphil 08-29-2008 11:19 PM

I appreciate the "good beer" drinkers here. :)

I am a good wine drinker. If it is sold at Wal-Mart for 2.97 a bottle, there is a REASON.

I usually go to local wineries in my area. I also get some pretty good imported greek wine from my boss. :)

kimmieone 08-30-2008 12:00 PM

Yes, once in awhile but during football season I drink every Sunday while watching football and eating nachos! :) I drink beer and the occasional strawberry margarita.
