Scared of eating more at breakfast
I keep reading that you should eat more energy at breakfast, a smaller amount at lunch and smaller amount at dinner.
I try to keep my kcals at 800-900 a day, with higher exceptions 2 days a week, I see it as a lil blessing if I get up late/exercise to i miss breakfast, Im down at least 150kcals for the day that way. I tend to enjoy snacking tho. For breakfast I usually have 30g bran flakes, some sort of fruit chopped up/raisins on top and skimmed milk which comes in to about 150kcals Today I exercised and had 1/4cup oats, 10g protein powder, 10 strawberries, 50ml skimmed milk, splash of water & a lil sweetener kcals ??? If I did eat more at breakfast say ~250kcals and ~250kcals at lunch ~100kcals snack that leaves me with ~200kcals for dinner and maybe ~100kcal snack I just dont know if it's worth making more of an effort at breakfast and not eating later in the day... Maybe Im grasping at straws! anyone got any opinions or helpful suggestions!? |
I don't have an answer but a story. :-) (True.)
One woman who had really gotten her food *under control* (after a long journey) finally realized the reason she held herself back so strictly at meals was so she could have her favorite fat free (sugar heavy) snack at bedtime. Then she saw that she wasn't willing to be satisfied with *good* foods, and would be in a struggle as long as she ordered her life around things that were *calling her* but not really good for her. She started eating more at meals and gave up the snack *habit* and really got set free. And, finally got thin again. Don't know if that helps you but it sure works for me. |
I'm guilty of not eating breakfast so I can eat a satisfying dinner. I drink coffee in the morning, eat a very low cal lunch and eat my bigger meal at dinner. I do this because its how I feel comfortable eating. You do whats right for YOU, not what right for other people. I enjoy eating a dinner I can sit down to for a long time, conversing with my family. I love eating carbs at dinner, I am not an anti carb person and feel that all foods are permissible in moderation. So, I save my calories for the meal that counts and with my hectic family schedule, that is dinner.

My suggestion is that you consider eating more calories total. Below 1200 is too low to go unless you are under medical supervision--and I mean, weekly appointments with a weight loss clinic.
So go up to 1200 at least. That should allow you plenty for breakfast. I'd say, have around 300 cals for breakfast. Jay |
Hiya, thanks delita, that did help and cheers ghost, your right, doing what is right for me is better.
JayEll- I do eat higher on atleast 2-3 days but due to my height and weight eating 1400kcals a day is to maintain so to lose like a lb I need to reduce that but 500, hence why its quite low |
Everyone has to find what works best for them, of course, but in my experience I lose better and feel better if I get most of my calories in earlier in the day. I have a 2-300 calorie dinner and maybe a 100-200 calorie snack later in the evening. Taking the emphasis off dinner was hard, but once I got used to it, eating healthy seems a lot easier (less cravings, less hunger at work, which was when I was prone to snack etc).
So eating a big breakfast doesn't have to mess up your plan at all! |
