How annoying (vent)

I was 198 earlier this week and I weighed myself this morning and I'm 201.5! I'm so annoyed because I have been eating so healthy and I stay within my calories. Tomorrow is weigh in for me and I really hope I drop below 200 because thats where I was last Friday! :?: I know it takes time and it doesn't just fall off but I needed to vent and get my frustration out so I can continue on my journey :)

Sounds like water weight (salty foods???) or TOM weight.
Don't worry--keep at it :)

Hi,
I can completely relate. My scale jumped two lbs to 147 on Monday. Not sure why... but I was back to an even 145 this morning. These little ups and downs are awfully annoying, but the hard work you've been putting in will show up, just keep doing what you're doing and give it a little time.

I have been through this lots of times! Please, please, please hang in there! It could be lots of different things. Are bodies are so complex and they don't always do what they're supposed to, you know what I mean? I've seen this a million times on here, but it's never pleasant when it happens to you. Don't give up! Also, you might consider switching up your exercises and your calories a bit. Do abit more one day, a bit less the other. It might help to shake things up a bit! :)

Keep track of your weight fluctuations, I bet you will see a pattern. The other option is don't weigh more than once a week if it drives you nuts.

I guarantee if you stay on plan it will work. But it might not be linear. Bodies are very complex machines.

Holy crap...are we having a mind meld moment luckymommy?

The scale sometimes turns into Satan. You cannot believe everything it tells you.

Really, though. It's nothing. You'll hover and go back and forth for the rest of your life. But if you let that get you down, you'll give up. You didn't gain three pounds in three days. Go drink a pitcher of water and pee the excess out. It'll help. I promise.

Have you read this article? If not, you need to.

Why the scale lies

Very good article, Lori... thanks for posting!

DMNewman 07-03-2008 11:43 AM

Thank you!!! Like I said, I know the scale isn't Mr. Know-it-all but sometimes I need to remind myself. I'm off to read the article that Lori posted :)

Be patient. I totally understand how you feel, I let the scale dictate my mood all too often! I am seriously considering throwing it out and just seeing how my clothes fit, but I just can't do that right now! :) If you are doing everything right then be happy! The pounds will come off sooner or later. :dizzy:

Whenever I have starchy carbs for dinner (even when they are within my calories) I put on 2 to 3 lbs for my morning weigh in... it's just water retention.

DMNewman 07-03-2008 06:07 PM

Well I made a chicken breast last night and threw it on some bread and I just had the same for dinner this evening AHHHHH!

Here are just some things that can make the scale spike (and it could do that several times a week, so get used to it, track your weekly average instead of a "weigh in day", or stop weighing yourself ;))
- TOM, before, during, and/or after, depends on the person
- weight lifting or any hard workout
- high sodium and/or not enough water consumption
- starchy carbs (for me, anyway)
- random freakish bodily fluid production (which means, for no reason I can understand!)

I'm a daily weigher, but I've learned not to let that daily number be the boss of me. I track those daily weights, and once a week, I add them up, divide by 7, and see what my number is. Compared week to week, that's a more reliable number than a one-day dip or spike, so it lets me see the trend, week to week. If it goes down even 0.2 lbs for the week, I know I'm losing something, somewhere, dangit! ;)

I'm there with ya!

Last week I was barely hovering below 170 (for a variety of reasons, including TOM and a salty binge that week) ... and I absolutely will cut off a body part if I go over 170 again. :)

Now I"m struggling to drop below 160. I've bounced around in the 160s all month and I"m determined that this next couple of weeks will put me in the 150s. Determined. Do you hear that scale????

:D
