My Labor Day Goal: Lose 10 lbs!!!
|
Quote:
Layri, congrats on another pound! Good luck with the exercise. Working out usually helps clear up my breathing when I'm sick like that, so I hope it helps you! Wow, we've got a lot of new members, so I'll resort to the group "Welcome" :grouphug: and say good luck to you all with your goals! Please keep posting so we can learn more about you, and keep up on your progress! As for me, I finally got to change my ticker today...193.0, finally! So, 2 more pounds to go yet, to reach my mini goal of an "overweight" BMI! Gotta run, chickies, since my sister is here for a visit. I'll check in later! |
Welcome to all the new people! Love that there are more people to get to 'know' in this challenge. You can do - meet your goals!
Raindancer- glad to hear your pants are looser! Yippy skippy! Sgirl- ah, fancy gym scales. They can be disappointing! You have a great attitude nevertheless, you're right - the fat WILL come off, it IS coming off. You use a personal trainer too? Do you love strength training? I'm totally addicted to it. Yay on your body image changing! What an accomplishment to not feel huge at the beach! Medium rocks! Layri- Hope you'll feel better tomorrow. Flu bites a big one. And in the summer too, no fair. Jammyjam, Another pound to overweight! Yay! When dog scootering season comes around again you should share some photos. That sounds like a ton of fun. As for me, I'm treating myself tomorrow to some new experiences. I'm going horseback riding since there's no chance I'll break the poor thing's back and getting a massage for the first time. I've always wanted a massage, a real one - not one where I can sense my husband ready to be done after 3 minutes. I've always been too self-conscious but I am so ready for some massage bliss. My poor back and shoulders ache from strength training. I try to reward myself with new things to do that don't include food. Since I so often in the past celebrated or entertained with food it's a great welcome change to look for alternatives. Much more fun too! |
FB, riding can be a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy yourself! I love your idea of rewarding yourself with new experiences. :)
|
ooh, I love a challenge!
My labor day goals are to lose 10 lbs, and have walked 5 days a week consistently. On Sep 1st, I will have made it up to walking three miles a day. |
Alright, I'm in :) I love a good challenge.
I'll hop on the 10 lb bandwagon :D (My first 10!). Another goal I have for myself is to be able to do the week three of C25K by Labor Day, and at three weight lifting and/or stretching sessions per week. |
DC, welcome and good luck with your goal!
Blue, welcome to 3FC! I did the C25K, also, when I started running. I think you'll enjoy it! I've got skating tonight, so that will be my workout. I'm off in a bit to pick up our tickets for the new X-files movie, which opens this Friday. I'm going with my ds and 2 sisters, so it should be fun. I wanted to wear an aluminum foil helmet, to protect myself from alien mind-control rays, but my sisters said no. Some people have no sense of humor. ;) |
i new here and a challenge seems to be exactly what i need. my goal is to get to 199 by labor day. i currently weigh 213. i should be able to lose 14 lbs by then if i just stick to my calories and keep walking.
|
Yay! More new people! Listen up - you need to post a bunch and let us get to 'know' you! This will be a fun and busy challenge. vblizard- we share the same exact goal!
The horse riding was fun. I don't know if I'd do it again, but I'm so glad I did it. I got the willies and thought I'd die when the horse was slipping all over a muddy river bank edge. The horse also kept stopping to chow down on trees and bit my foot when I nudged it. It didn't help that we weren't really instructed first on how to handle a horse. I remembered enough from television to handle myself okay. I've been trying to think of an interesting experience for my son, like violin lessons, swim lessons, ect and found the brilliant plan today! My son is going to take riding lessons (not on muddy river bank cliffs) which I think he'll love up. HAHA at Jammy! Reynolds Wrap your head anyhow. I freaking love it. You're insane. |
Thank you guys. :p I'm mostly better now, save for the occasional sniffle here and there.
Okay, now- :welcome: to all the new people! Wow, it's great to see so many people joining in on this challenge! Today I was completely shocked by my scales- They were BOTH trying to claim that I'm 153.5! I don't know what's up with these random sudden drops recently; I've been doing the same exact thing that I usually do.. But hey, I'm not complaining! I'm going to round up to 154 like I usually do and call it a two lb drop, but wow.. Now I'm afraid that I'm going to stall for a month or something of that sort. :b 6/10 |
I completed my 30 min walk today; it's actually getting easier!
|
down .6.
|
DC, congrats on the loss! :carrot:
The X-files movie was great fun! I restrained myself on the foil hat, though, lol. Skating was last night. I got about 3 hours of dance skating in...the knee is holding up fine, but my poor toes have to toughen up again. Layri, WTG on the 2 lb loss...wow! I really miss the big numbers, I confess, but with the weight lifting, I just cannot get them. Something must be happening, though, because my new smaller sized pants are getting looser. Okay, gotta run to the Costco for groceries. |
All right, all right...it's time to get my butt back in gear. I've changed my avatar to reflect my change ( up...yikes!) in weight. But...on the bright side. I'm still 31 lbs down and now I'm looking at this as a whole new challenge. I'm starting from 148. I think 139 would be a good number to shoot for, 9 lbs.
It was great to hear all the folks who made Canada Day goal and those, like me, who need to get back in the swing of things. Onward!!!! so...running 3 times per week. Cutting back/out the refined sugar in my diet and getting back on Fitday and logging those foods:-). |
I'm back from my vacation and I was able to keep on plan for the most part. Lost 2 pounds so down 4 for the challenge. So far I'm averaging 1 pound per week.
Labor Day Challenge=4/10. |
Hey everyone
Welcome Sumu1. Blue. Blizzard and DC...and anyone else I missed Layri-totally hear ya about the big drops, it's like you don't want to believe it incase it's just your scale fluking out on you, but you have worked SO hard and TOTALLY deserve the loss you've accomplished so I guarantee it is permanent retiredone-Way to stay on plan during vacation. You deserve a medal for that. Jammy-HAHAHAHAHAHA about the foil! Would have been hilarious if you did it, but I know my sis would have pretended she didn't know me so I see why you didn't do it in the end. Hilarious none the less. Doin awesome on your work-outs...that's AWESOME that your new 36's are LOOSE! You'll be into a 34 in no time!!! FB-glad your horsebackriding was enjoyable even though your horse kept slipping and stopping to eat grass. Too bad you got bit, horse bites suck! But it is a nice time. As for me, I stayed on plan for the whole week, so was expecting a loss during my weigh in...I went to the bathroom and TOM was here. So no loss, but no gain either, so my guess is once TOM is over there will be a loss. I will need some help staying on plan during TOM I think I will need to factor in some chocolate into my daily calories and fat intake LOL. See you later! |
Sgirl, if you like dark chocolate, Dove makes some yummy sugar free chocolates, they come in a bag, and Walmart sells them, I think 2 dollars and something for a bag. I used to have one of those for a treat, but liked them a little too much, so quit buying them for the house. Extra dark chocolate is another good one for satisfying the chocolate craving without too many cals.
Sumu, welcome back! Isabella, I'm so glad you got a vacation...you deserve it! WTG on the 2 lbs! This past weekend was crap for food. No binges or anything, but just too many off-plan meals involving white carbs/too much sodium, and I can tell it from the scale and how I'm feeling. Back on plan today, though, and I'm going to work extra hard to stick with my workout plan and keep the eating spot-on. I really am so tired of seeing the middle 190s popping up on the scale. I still have far enough to go on my weight loss, that I feel I should be seeing better numbers, but I won't see them if I go off-plan! |
Bah! Stuck again! I bounce around all OVER the place. Gah!
Jammy - WTF is up with strength training slowing weight loss? I know the muscle isn't displacing the fat that quickly, otherwise I'd be a ripped she-beast by now. Fat girls like me just don't put on 10 pounds of muscle a month. My guess is that steroid guys don't either. I eat perfecto, I do my cardio, I follow my plan like a zealous zealot. But, but, but I love strength training and won't quit just to see the stinking scale move. Sgirl- for sure you'll see a loss once your cycle is through. That constantly happens to me. Another reason to hate it. :) |
Hello all,
Just wanted to share I decided to feed myself some chocolate for TOM. Not sure if anyone has heard of Stratford, ON, but they have this chocolate store called Rheo Thompson which is the greatest chocolate store EVER, and super expensive...they have this mint smoothie thing...which is a 2 inch by 2 inch chocolate bar, and the greatest thing in the world, BUT it is 300 calories and like 20 grams of fat!!!! I bought one and decided to cut it into a few pieced and I am going to eat a small piece every day so I don't go over my calories. Just a little bit will help me get through TOM and it won't make me go OP. I also could have bought 10, I figure LOL. Hope everyone is doing well! |
Sgirl, good for you. That's a great idea for treating yourself, while staying on plan!
FB, I'm with you...I must be getting super buff under all this fat, lol! Like you, I'm addicted to lifting, so I am not stopping. I really, really want some visible shoulder and hamstring muscles. When I get frustrated with the scale, I just try to remember that it's about reshaping my body, not just making it lighter on the scale. I ran for the first time in a while. I've been running for a warmup, but yesterday was the first time in two months (?) that I've run for a workout. It felt good! The yoga turned out to be hard on my left knee, lots of holding in a lunge position. I did it, and it seemed okay at the time, but the next morning my knee was all messed up and left me limping for two days. :( I'm just going to skip the yoga and go back to some easy running. |
hi jam,
i know about yoga being hard on the knees. there are modifications that can help you ease up on the knee, and still get a great stretch. yoga journal has a pose finder on their site, and you can view modifications there. im not sure how you're practicing (at home, in a studio) but there are beginner dvd's, and an instructor can show you how to avoid pain during and after. |
Well, as soon as I signed up for this challenge, my body took a break! It took a week to lose one pound and ten days to lose the next. My goal had me losing over a pound per week! But, suddenly, I've lost three pounds in the last nine days. So, I've lost 4/12 for the goal. I'll have to average two pounds per week now, so making my goal isn't terribly likely, but I'll still shoot for it. I'm going to start a DVD workout, but that may actually hurt me as I pick up muscle. But, it so, it'll be a good change, right? :)
|
Ditto to that last post by LessEveryDay. I'm at a stand still this week. I'll probably not make goal by Labor Day...sigh...but I trudge on. Actually, I was on vacation and now I'm getting back to my schedule so maybe I'll see some results next week. So as before 4/10. I so wanted to change that today.
|
I'm with you guys, stuck in a loop around the same weight. I'm just keepin' on, though, because I know it has to work eventually, but I find myself looking for that one "right" thing I could do to kick out of what is starting to feel like a plateau. In reality, it's probably not a plateau, because if I take an honest look, my eating has not been perfect, and I've had interruptions to my workout schedule, like having to work out at home instead of making it to the Y, and I just can't get the same level of workout at home, especially with weight lifting. So, I'm recommitting to my workout schedule this coming week, with a major goal being to get back on track with making the trip to the Y to workout! I really want to do my best to produce some positive change, whether it shows up on the scale or inches, anything that shows I'm still headed the right direction!
|
Hello! another newbie here =) I'm joining up, even though it's a little late...
My goal will be no fast food until Sept 1st, and lots more homemade dinners. 6 lb would be nice to, but I'll focus on the eating in. |
Welcome to all the newcomers! Sorry to hear so many folks are stalling. Maybe the summer heat is causing some water retention.
Regarding diet-friendly chocolate fixes... has anyone tried Gayle's Miracles truffles (only 30 calores each!)? I want to try them but I'd have to mail order them and I am reluctant to do that in the summer because I am afraid they will melt in the mail. I hit a few big milestones lately. One is that I went out for Chinese food (I could not influence the restaurant choice in this case). I decided to eat without any regard for calories, but to get right back on plan -- and I did!!! :carrot: I almost certainly ate more during that meal than I usually budget for a whole day, but if I don't do that more than once a month or so, I can have my Chinese food and eat it too :) . The other is that I have officially reached my original goal weight of 149 (and that was with TOM to boot!). :carrot: :carrot: Unfortunately, most of my "skinny" wardrobe is still too small and I am not content with my current shape, so I've set my goal weight lower. But getting this far is a huge accomplishment that I have not managed in recent years, so I treated myself to a massage and a couple of new pairs of pants :) . |
I haven't checked in here in a long time...
Well, I've been staying on plan and such every day. I haven't weighed myself at all in the past few days, but before that, I was also in the club of staying around the same weight. I forgot to weigh myself this morning before I ate, so I'll do the deed tomorrow... yoyoma, I love the sound of that, as I completely LOVE Chinese food with a passion and even though I like to schedule it in my 1,250 calorie plan occasionally.. I just wanna have more than tiny little portion controlled servings every once in a while. Also, congrats on reaching your original goal! I'm extremely close to also reaching my original goal, and even though I've already decided to lower it, I'll still be pretty darn happy when it happens. I hope you're all doing well, and that the other stallers can break the evil cycle! |
Hello everyone,
It seems we're all at a stand still. I'm assuming I am too, but I don't know for sure because I packed away my scale cause we are moving tomorrow. YUCK! I HATE moving. My DH and I are both starting new jobs next week in a different city. So I probably won't be on for a bit until my internet is up and running. Good luck to you all! Welcome to Asynchronous! No, it is never to early or to late! Not eating fast food is a terrific goal! Yoyoma congrats on making your original goal weight!!!!!!!!!! That is AMAZING! |
Everyone is doing awesome, sticking with this regardless of scale feedback. Yay for you!
The scale did move for me, briefly. Now it's that special time of month and I can look forward to being stagnant again. Yay, right? I signed our family up at the Y so my husband can enjoy a workout too. Tiny gym has no childcare, so I can send the guys to the Y and do my thing guilt free. Thank goodness the tiny gym's membership is only $15.00 a month! I feel so guilty for having two memberships. That's hardcore, eh? I justify it by thinking about how much the Y offers, the pool, classes, childcare, fun things for my little guy. I don't know how often I'll use it, besides for workout dates with the hubby, because a TON of people are always there. I don't like a ton of people around me while I'm sweating! I can't quit thinking about that mint chocolate! And now Miracle Truffles?? I want chocolate NOW! With a side of Chinese food. |
Hmmm, well my goal was no fast food, and we went to Red Lobster last night, so I guess technically I'm still good. I ordered the broiled lobster and got my salad with red wine vinaigrette, but then my boyfriend ordered dessert.
The scale is still down- about 1/2 a lb this morning- so maybe if I'm good and OP for the next few days, and keep up the exercise, that one little dessert won't hurt me too much. Course, it wasn't all that little... but still... |
Down a lb, to 153! Wh00t, finally! I also had some great non-scale victories yesterday when shopping with my mother for some pants(and new shirts) that I can wear (I otherwise only wear skirts) to a week-long annual fishing trip coming up with my father soon. I was pretty darn happy. :) 7/10 for Labor Day
Sgirl, I just have to say good luck with your new job and moving! FB, Oh yes, a big yay for water retention in 'that time of the month'! Would it make you feel better that I also want chocolate with a side of Chinese food and I'm not even on TOM? :D Asynchronous, the important thing is that even though you did go off plan with that dessert, you got right back on afterward. Just remember to smack your boyfriend on the head next time (kinda like those V8 commercials) if he tries to order dessert again. ;) I hope everyone else is doing well. :p |
Asynchronous- Red Lobster can be healthy. I'd agree you stayed on goal. I get the steamed lobster all of the time, without butter. (MMM, now I want buttered up lobster. Can you tell I'm having awful cravings?)
WTG Layri! You're rocking along, scale is moving down. Got any new reward photos to share? A fishing trip with your pop? How fun, have lots of it! (MMM now I want fried catfish ;) ) My losing spree served me well. Only a few measly peasly pounds to my Labor Day goal. I think I'll cry. For reals. |

Asynchronous, welcome to 3FC, and the challenge! :carrot: No worries about being "late", since we'll do another challenge when this one is done.
FB and Layri, congrats on the loss this week! The scale has started heading down again for me the last few days, but no idea if it will keep going, and it's still not past my previous lowest weight, so no change on the ticker for me yet. I've decided to try the BFL program and do the 12 weeks. I actually started on Weds, and so far the workouts have been good...UB workout kicked my butt yesterday...it was so bad, I was down to 10 lb dumbbells for the last set of bicep curls. I was toast about ten sets before it was over. Great workout! The cardio was good, too, on Weds...it's sorta like the intervals from heck, so I got a good workout in the 20 mins. I'm hoping this change in the workouts will help kick the fat burning back into gear. I figure, worst case, it can't hurt, and the eating plan is pretty close to what I was already doing, so no big change there, except for the "free day". I've kinda been doing a free meal once in a while, but scheduling it once a week might actually help keep me on track the rest of the week. Gotta run, but hoping to have more computer time later today. My sisters and the boy (ds11) and I are going to the waterfront now, to walk dogs and have lunch. I've been holding out all week, so I can have a yummy burger with onions and tomato from the snack shack at the fishing pier. (FB, you want one of those, too? lol) I am reading a good book I found at the library. It's called "never say diet", written by a gal who lost close to 200 lbs with calorie counting and exercise. Real sensible so far...I can't remember her first name, but her last name is Hobbs...anyway, if you're looking for a good read, check it out! |
I just weighed in and I've lost 2.5 pounds this week. Oh, yes, oh yes. I could do a Snoopy dance right now. :carrot::cb::cp::dance:
I've changed my start weight to reflect how much I have actually lost. I started doing this in January but didn't join 3FC until April. So if you see a huge change in my weight loss that's the reason why. I see that the weight loss that stalled in some of us is starting to move and that's just great. My Labor Day Challenge is now 6/10. I might make it. |
Hello everyone
Thanks for the well wishes with the move. It went well and I've stayed OP the whole time, finally unpacked my scale and NOTHING. This is SOOO frustrating:tantrum: Plus with all the extra calorie burning from the move you'd think I would have lost SOMETHING...maybe I gained muscle :D Congrats to everyone who is losing, retiredone WOW you really have lost a lot, way to go! |
Morning, ladies! Yesterday was my first "free day" with the BFL (Body for Life) program. In the book, the author says it's good to give the body a bigger calorie day, so it's more likely to freely burn fat the rest of the week, but it was hard to do. I did go for more calories than normal, and enjoyed my burger at the waterfront for lunch, but stuck with healthy choices the rest of the day, because I'm just not used to eating a bunch of greased up food or white carbs these days. I'm going to give it an honest try, but think I'll stick with healthy carbs/proteins/fats for the bulk of it, and maybe one treat if I'm really having a craving I feel is worth indulging. I can see how a guy could get away with a free day eating whatever he wants, but am not sure if it works the same for women.
Walked about 6 miles yesterday with the dogs, while the boy rode his bike and explored the beaches. The dogs had a nice swim, fetching the tennis ball and a floaty kong toy. I had skating last night. I did the skate dancing for a little over 3 hours, then called it a night, as my legs were toast from the walking at lunch time. Today is LB lifting, so I'm off to the Y in a little bit for that. I'm thinking I might play around a bit on some of the machines. I've been doing BB squats and deadlifts for a few months, and could use a change, so I think I'll see what else I can find to do for legs. Isabella, congrats on the big loss this week! That's amazing! Hopefully I'll be able to report something good in the coming weeks. Sgirl, glad to hear you're in your new place. Remember to take time for taking care of you, in between all the unpacking and such. |
Sgirl and Cheryl, thanks for your kind comments. I was really surprised this morning. Keep up with your good work and you'll see a drop any time now, too. It seems as if the weight comes off so slowly but when I look back it is not as slow as it seems. Anyhoo, let's all keep walking and jumping and hopping and lifting and pumping and .....eating good wholesome food.
|
Hey, challengers! Just checking in. I am on track for my challenge. I haven't tried on the garment in question and won't until Labour Day, but I think I am going to make it. I may have already done so... I don't know. I refuse to try until the actual day. :D
Good luck, everyone! Keep on keeping on and way to go everyone for the small victories on the way to a goal. :carrot::carrot::carrot: |
