When did people start noticing?
I know I have a loooooooong way since I just started, but when did people start noticing that you were losing weight? I'm wondering if anybody will notice when I lose 20-25 pounds? lol I'm a little anxious about it all :dizzy:
People started noticing when I was down to around 240 from 265. But I think it depends where you carry your weight and where you shed the weight first.
Still, people may notice much earlier on, but might feel uncomfortable commenting on it (even in a good way) out of fear of embarrassing you, etc. I remember this one family function when I was about 240lbs and my mother was SOOO proud of me all she talked about the entire time was my weight and body. I was humiliated; I still felt fat and had many issues with my body and having all that attention on me and my weight the entire day was AWFUL. |
i think a lot has to do with how heavy you are to start with.. but my friend who is 5'6 was about 220 and when she hit 199 you could really tell. She has stalled since hitting that point but people still compliment her.
Some people noticed the other day that i'd lost weight and i have currently lost 20lb since February. I don't know how they could tell though, i can't!
Well I have only lost 6 pounds so maybe 15 more pounds from now, I can fit back into my shorts and people will notice lol
I lost about 40 pounds before anyone noticed. Funny story, my boss at that time was a guy about my age. One day I walked into work wearing new clothes that actually fit (I had lost 40 lb over 4 months) and he was like "Did you lose a bunch of weight overnight?". The words were out of his mouth before he knew what he said! He was trying to recover that he "didn't mean it like that" - - I let him flounder a bit before I said, "no, I just bought new clothes". We laughed about that for a long time and he ended up becoming very helpful to me in learning about nutrition. He was so worried that I was losing too fast, but it was really that no one noticed until I wore clothes that actually fit me.
I agree with Mom2QJandT... In the past people have noticed when I have worn different clothes and not hidden myself in swampy t-shirts and baggy jeans.
Not many people ever said anything to me. People who knew I was trying would say stuff but I was down 50 pounds before anyone that didn't know said anything.
I'd lost 25-30lbs before people started noticing.
It was seriously like nobody noticed til one day and then everyone noticed, it was odd! Keep at it, everyone will notice soon enough |
I dont think it is that people "dont notice". I honestly think that a lot of people are sensitive about weight so others are fearful of saying something....
I was down from 215 to 170 before people noticed (or said something). But then I gained a little back and from 180 to 170 people were starting to ask if I had lost weight recently.... |
Yeah, I think it was around 20 lbs before anyone said anything. Maybe they just wanted to wait and see if I was going to gain it back
People started noticing around 8-10 lbs. (where I've been stuck ever since, grr.)
When I first lost the weight.. people noticed from 190-170... but a lot of people asked if I meant to lose the weight... Some weren't sure. LOL.. when I got down to 150, my family started telling me I'd lost too much.. that was what kinda made me rest a bit... But since I've gained a little back, I decided I want to get to my goal and then maintain it... People still call me a skinny minny... and such.. but I always think.. yeah, right?!! LOL...
But people will notice when they notice and be prepared to answer how as they would like to know how to magically disappear the pounds too ;) |
What a great question. I've lost 34ish over the last year and very few folks have noticed or at least said anything. I just went to a banquet last week and although I haven't seen some folks in over a year, no one said a thing. I'm down from a size 14 to a size 8. Crazy isn't it? The odd thing is I don't mind... this time isn't about the kudos, it's about me..I'm loving that :) .
Gosh, I only recently started getting notices at 60 pounds. I think that now it's a bit more obvious (I hope!!!) people aren't as shy about asking.
For me it was about 30-40 pounds before anyone said anything. Not sure if they noticed or not before that - but at my high weight, 30 pounds wasn't that much LOL!
I told just about everyone that I was losing weight. I am surrounded by supportive people, so they started complimenting me immediately. I don't know how much I believe them, though! I'm a SAHM now, so most people I see are friends. It's not like when I was working and I saw lots of acquaintances frequently. So, the friends are in the know and more likely to compliment or try to notice.
One friend who I see weekly just noted how my outfits can make a difference. Most times, when I see him, I tend to wear blousy, wild-patterened, "hippie" shirts. This last week, I happened to wear a striped, button-down shirt. He said he really noticed the weight loss in that shirt. I was down 25 pounds by then. But, another male friend whom I hadn't seen since I started my weight loss and probably hadn't heard about it, saw me the other day for a good 20 minutes and never breathed a word! It's kinda like watching your kids grow up. Everyone else comments on how much they've grown and you don't see it too much because you're there for every fraction of an inch. :) |
People noticed now with me and I have only lost about 14lbs BUT I work out and walk up six flights of steps five days a week. I know when I take pics now I can see a difference. My cloths fit really different now and I didnt lose much weight yet but sometime you lose inches and thats just as good as lbs!
I'm curious to see when people start to notice with me. I haven't lost much, if any yet, but when it starts coming off, we'll see if anyone can tell. I really think, unless they know you well, most people are too afraid of offending you to say anything. Its like admitting that you've lost weight means they subtly are agreeing that you had weight to lose in the first place ... make sense?
People started to notice after the first 15 lbs for me. However, it took 40 lbs gone before I only just started to recently notice it a bit in myself. :p
I lost fourteen before people told me I'd lost weight :)
For me it was about 230 when folks started to say something. Now, there is a dramatic change and many folks comment.
It's funny...folks will say..."You look wonderful....not, that you didn't look good before." Sometimes - people don't know what to say. I always say...that I realize that they are complementing my efforts as well. |
When I was at 220, and I when I lost 10lbs quite rapidly, no one noticed until the 10lbs, and suddenly everyone was giving me compliments. They didn't necessarily notice that I had lost weight though; people just said "Wow, you're looking really good!" It was so rewarding.
People started to notice when I reached 155.
I've lost almost 40 pounds and I'm down from size 22 to 18 and no one has said anything yet! :)
about 20lbs for me. But when I had lost about 35lbs and we had a party and a lot of people that had not seen me in a while (mostly men my husband works with) noticed and said that I was looking great (which I was :) ) . It will be interesting this go around ( I have gained back about 28lbs). I think people notice but don't want to say anything for fear they will hurt your feelings, when in fact most of the time it does just the opposite!
