When did walking become Hard lol

I live a more than sedentary lifestyle... i get up in the am.. clean house for an hour... then hit the pc and dont move till bedtime then walk to the bdrm... horrible i know.. i literally havnt even been for a walk in months... i have become so lazy as i have gotten bigger... anyhow, i decided today to walk to the store.. is only about .5 mile there and back.. but omg... there was no prob.. all downhill.. but coming back i thought i would die :( my feet hurt, my calves, my hips.. totally out of breath... i cant believe i let myself get this bad... all this walk did tho was reafirm my need to be healthier and be on these boards:)

Congratulations on your decision to get up, and walk to the store. If you are very sedentary...a 1 mile walk IS something. You should be proud that you did it. :)

I have a strip mall .5 miles from my house as well (grocery store, Hallmark, Blockbuster) and when the weather is nice, I also walk there to pick something up.

I challenge you to do this walk a few times a week. Over time, as your body gets used to it and you have some weight loss-it WILL become easier. After losing 10 pounds for instance, that is 10 less that you have to drag along with you on that 1 mile walk. It may not seem like much, but carry a 10 pound sack of flour around for a mile...and you will see that it is. :)

Every step that you take, and every pound that you lose-will make it that much easier to keep on going.

NO, you don't deserve every pain you feel.
We have to stop the self scolding if we want to improve our lives.
You deserve to be fit and healthy and look smoking hot in a little black dress.
Everyone deserves this - well, except most guys.
Mostly cuz they really need to shave their legs.
I'm digressing, aren't I?
(walks away mumbling to self)....

Watercolor is right - we don't "deserve" this! I have an alter-ego, Ruthless, who nags all the time. I've decided to murder her.

Jimaterry, your post inspired me to take my poor neglected dog and walk down to the Post Office for the mail. It's less than a half mile!

Hmmmm, I wonder if Ruthless has met my evil twin Ydnic?

When I just read this, I realized how right she is......when we get lighter, the walk will get easier....as will doing anything else...

I Love walking...but now that I'm carrying all this weight, it's not as enjoyable. I need to remember how good it feels to do it.

I think its great that you took the walk!! I have a very similiar life style. I work out of my home and if I wanted to I could take very few steps in a day. I just bought myself a pedometer and I have set a goal of 10,000 a day. I am no where close but its sure motivation to look down and see those steps adding up. I will be rooting for you and that walk will get easier!;)

I am right there with ya. But since starting the Paul McKenna plan I find exercising easier because he just says to add extra steps everyday, like park farther away, take stairs, take the long way around, etc. It all adds up! He also makes a good point, that everything we do in everyday life is exercise, like cleaning, it is exercise, it burns calories. I know it motivates me to be more productive at home and get things clean AND get in some exercise at the same time! :) WTG :high: on the walk! I want to get out this weekend and ejoy the great weather -- hopefully it will stick around!!! lol.

Also don't forget it gets easier with time. We started a class 6 weeks ago and it took a month before I wasn't dreading the class because it was "hard". On the bonus side its now 6 weeks out and I am feeling a huge! HUGE!! surge of daily energy now, I find my self moving even when I don't need to, its awesome!
