300 Calories Between Fat Me and Ideal Me

  • So, I found one of those little calculators that let you type in your height, weight and such. I entered both my starting weight and target weight in there as my weight - and they were only 300 calories apart! So, I've been a soda and a crescent roll away from being svelte for all these years.
  • It's a kick in the head ain't it?

Just think what would happen if you cut another 200 cals and did a little resistance training three times a week. You'd be ogle-worthy!

I'm so glad you've figured it out this way. Small things make all the difference.
  • Its pretty scary sometimes isn't it!?

We all have this mentality where we give up easily and eat this or that, and then when realise that by avoiding something like, a can of cola and two helpings of a meal instead of one it really gives us a shock.

May I ask what website you did it on? I wouldn't mind having a peek around it.
  • If you do the similar math - gaining 10lbs a year is as simple as eating an extra 100 calories per day

    100 * 7days * 52 weeks = 36,400 calories

  • Well, I apparently can't post links yet because I don't yet have 25 posts. Google "calorie intake". I've used both of the first two hits on freedieting.com and hpathy.com. I just looked for maintenance on both my current, then my target weight.
  • Lori - that is the statistic that continues to amaze me. For so many years, I couldn't understand how I could gain weight. I didn't over eat, I ate healthy foods. I avoided sweets. But that extra muffin twice a week in the break room, along with a weekly trip to the local Mexican restaurant with their free chips and salsa - added up to 15 lbs. last year. Why didn't I figure this out YEARS ago?
  • Bump cuz' I wish thousands of people the world over would see it! Soooo profound! Sooo true! Sooo important!
  • What a great point!

I like to see how many calories it will take to maintain my goal weight, cause then I know I won't have to survive on limited calories forever!
  • All hail the great and powerful google girl LessEveryDay. THANK YOU a million times over. I've been looking for these freakin' calculators and keep coming up with stupid ones. I kept getting the low end of the numbers (for my resting rate) but couldn't find the cals needed to lose wt based on activity. Wrong search info I guess. I knew I was eating w/in the right cal range; nice to have verification of it. The freedieting one even gives you a zig-zag weekly calorie layout for various fat loss. Superb!
  • Yeah, you'd think more sites would have these calculators!
  • Susan, another 120 calories puts me at the absolute bottom weight for "healthy"! And, that's without any exercise change. Amazing. I'm eating less per day now than is required to keep me at that weight. And, I'm eating so healthy and so much that I don't feel deprived at all.
  • Crazy to think about! I estimate I gained weight over the years by eating or not burning just 250 calories more or less per day! lol That's like 1 soda and 1 slice of bread a day too much over 20 years. Ugh.
  • Thanks for the links, looks interesting
  • Thank you so much for that info! Really see where the phrase "a minute on the lips, a lifetime on the hips" comes from now! Is there need for that extra slice of buttered toast before going to bed?! I'm not going to be any happier with it in me, but i'll be a whole lot happier without the 10lbs it would make me put on in a year!
