Calorie Counters Chat-March 2008

I didn't see one of these started so I thought I's make a thread. :) If I missed it, My bad and somebody delete this. :)

Anyway, it was 71 and sunny here today and I have spent some time basking in the sun reading my YOU ona Diet book and just chiilin'. It's been great! Hopefully I am getting some color onto my snow white self! It's blinding I'm telling ya! EEEEK!

I weighed myself this morning and after my bad week I am down 4 ity-bity ounces, lol! I'll check again tomorrow morning and then post it, lol! Serves me right for all the bad choices this past week. BAD Roni! My foot is feeling a little better (I hurt it running on the TM last week), but I'll prolly just walk on the TM tomorrow and not push the issue with running a bit longer.

Tonight we are grilling steaks (YUM) and having baked potatoes and corn on the cob!!! One of my most favoritest meals! Jess is the Grilling Guru!

Hope you all had a fabulous weekend.

dgramie 03-02-2008 07:47 PM

It was a beautiful day here also. I weighed and lost 1.5 this week. SO far in 5 full weeks I have lost 17.5lbs. It has really slowed down now but I can deal with it. I keep thinking of having a cheat day and then by the time I eat my allowed calories Im full. I tend to come in a bit short on the weekends. I think its because I dont have a routine on the weekend.
I heard we could have snow again on tuesday........I WANT SPRING!!!

Shy Moment 03-02-2008 11:50 PM

Just wanted to stop in and say hello to everyone. Things are going great here.

dgramie 03-03-2008 01:06 PM

I just figured my calories for last week average. I came in really short. I came in at 1136 per day. I knew I had some low days but not as many high days as I thought. I will try and get closer to my 14-1500 per day. DO you average weekly or jsut do daily? I also didnt drink as much water as usual I only averaged 50 ounces a day. Will make sure I increase that also. Guess I have my work cut out for me this week.

Tinky009 03-03-2008 01:24 PM

Hey guys, I'm still here as well. I've been pretty busy here at work, and also, I got my ring finally from DF. LOL! He said he felt bad for making me wait,so I got it on Tuesday. I'm currently on a Juice fast. I have 6 more days to go. It's been quite an experience. I'm trying to tune in with my body, and it's telling me to clean some junk out. I look forward to eating way healthier again though.
Well I need to go catch up on prior posts, so I will be back later! Take care!

Diva-We're having rain here. It's needed, we haven't had much rain lately.

irishfairy 03-03-2008 09:31 PM

CONGRATS TINKY!!!!! you should post a pic of the ring!!!!

I am uber jealous of all the talka bout this lovely weather everyone is having...It was freezing rain here today, in the minus's (celsius) and windy!!!!
I went to the work party I had 2 drinks (rum and coke :O) and ate one plate of food I didn't lose but I didn't gain either so I am happy. my son has the flu though and I feel so bad he is only one and was very sick to his stomach :( I am hoping for some loss tomorrow....fingers crossed!!!

zenor77 03-03-2008 09:57 PM

YAY TINKY!!!!

I had to take DH to SeaTac this morning so, I was driving in that rain! Lol. At least it wasn't snowing too bad on the pass.

I think today was the first time I have ever been annoyed for being given more of something! I went to Jamba Juice this morning (I was waiting for traffic to thin out.) I ordered a 16oz light smoothie (less then 200 caloires) and the girl made too much and put it in a 24 oz cup. Grrr! They think they are doing you a favor too! HELLO??? If I ordered a light smoothie, then obviously I'm concerned about over consumption. I ended up eyeballing the difference and not finishing it. Anyway...

So, I'm cooking for just myself for another week. It's kind of hard to make food for just myself. I honestly do not know how to cook in that small of amounts. Too bad I don't like eating the same thing over and over. Then I'd only have to cook once for the whole week. Lol.

I hope everyone had a good monday!

Shy Moment 03-03-2008 11:13 PM

zenor
I really don't think they think about it that way lol. How many people order a large fry, a whopper and then a diet coke.

Deb
Is it going around lol? I pay attention to my week averages on fit day not so much day to day. I thought I did pretty good last week then I looked at the averages yesterday. I was under even my lower allowed amount of 1200 by almost 200 calories. I started looking back to see what was going on. Here, I just had a week that I really picked lower calorie foods. I like to be between 1200 and 1400 calories for an average for the week.

SlimmingDown 03-04-2008 09:34 AM

Hello chickadees!

I've decided to jump on in this thread as I am primarily counting calories even though I am also doing LA Weightloss. Is anyone else combining calorie counting with another program? I do because some days I slip from the LAWL program but if I stay w/in my cals I don't feel like a failure. It is more mental.

This morning I weighed in. I had a drop of 4.4 lbs!!! So far I'm down 5.6 total in 3 weeks.

Week 1: -2.4
Week 2: +1.2
Week 3: -4.4

Personally I always look at the averages. I try to eat what my body feels like it needs to eat. For example, some days I can't get enough so I'll eat around 1900 cals (I aim for healthy cals) and then days like on Sunday I wasn't hungry and nothing sounded appealing so I have about 1000. I aim to average between 1500 and 1700 a week. I also don't eat back my workout calories. So far this approach has made the past 3 weeks easier because I never feel starved and I never feel like I have to force feed.

I am working from home today so for "lunch" I plan on heading to the gym.

I hope that everyone has a great Tuesday!!!

Diva - How is the book You on a Diet? I'm curious about it.

Debimitch - 17.5 in 5 weeks??? You are my IDOL! That is awesome!

Tinky - How long have you been fasting? My longest was 18 days.

Irishfairy - I hope that your son feels better!!!

zenor77 - I feel you on the cooking for one thing. I only have me and to top it off I am a bad cook! I have found that it's good to make casseroles or chili, etc. and then I freeze pre-portioned amounts. If I did that more often I'd probably be losing more weight!

bargoo 03-04-2008 09:46 AM

I have done other programs and just couldn't resist counting calories, I finally decided to quit paying somebody to tell me how to eat and just count calories and I saved a lot of money, too.

Tinky009 03-04-2008 09:56 AM

Good Morning Counters. I read through the old posts, and all I can say is that I can't wait to have some Miso Soup!

Zenor- That is a bit of a drive!! I'm glad you didn't get stuck going through the pass though. I do know what you mean with Jamba Juice. Last time the DF and I went there, they made our drinks and then made a wrong drink and just gave it to us. Though it was a nice gesture, I don't need the extra calories! LOL!

I'm thrilled to have the bling, it's a bit loose, but nothing too bad. It's absolutely gorgeous. I will post pictures, real soon.

Irish- NO gain, NO loss, is always nice! I would consider those small victories!

Slimming-I've been fasting for 5 days, counting today. It's been quite an adventure. After I'm finished I will be looking to buy more organic produce, and really cutting processed foods out. After all this hardwork, I can't afford to undo it. LOL! Nice to meet you by the way! Oh to answer your other question, I've done the South Beach diet, and Fat Smash, I have come to find that Calorie Counting is the way to go!

Well have a great day everyone!

GrammyL 03-04-2008 10:22 AM

SlimmingDown ~ :welcome3: Looks like what your doing is working for you. I personally am doing calorie counting and learning about nutrition. I am trying to make all my calories healthy foods and getting away from processed foods.

Zenor ~ I almost always am cooking just for me. DH works out of town and YDD is rarely home between work and her BF. I am fortunate because I don't mind eating some things over and over. Now I always try to have something different at dinner but breakfast, snacks and lunch are usually leftovers are the same combos. Not awake enough in the morning or have enough time to be to creative. LOL! Last night I had tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich for dinner. One of my favorite comfort foods from childhood and quick to make.

I have to agree with Shy Moment. People are always looking for the bargain not realizing the bargain is actually hurting them. Just like the super size stuff. Well for only this much more you can get twice as much. Yah, twice as much thunder thighs, double chin, wiggly arms or jelly belly. Now I don't see those as bargains.

Bargoo ~ I am no longer paying to have someone help me lose weight but and I refuse to support the diet/exercise industry. I am a diet book junky and I was even going to buy another one this weekend when I decided enough is enough. I know what is going to work and I just need to trust myself. I am also not buying any more exercise equipment because it will just sit there. For some people it works but it never has for me.

Irish ~ That is horrible that your son has the flu, I hope for a speedy recovery. Sounds like you did OK at the party and you may just be retaining water. Alcohol initially dehydrates and then your body decides to rehydrate and hold on to it. At least that was always true for me. Don't worry, no nice weather stories here. LOL! It rained yesterday, flooded things, got really cold and now everything is ice again.

Tinky ~ WHOHOO! CONGRATS ON THE RING! Was it as romantic as he was shooting for? How is the juice fast going? I could never do it because juice makes me sick to my tummy, always has and I never acquired the taste for it because of this. Bothered me even as a child.

Debi ~ Congrats on the loss! Keep up the good work.

Diva ~ Don't get discouraged. It appeared from your post that your not. Does your body lose in cycles? Mine does. I may lose a couple pounds one week with no inches lost and the its reversed the next week. Always remember you are changing from the inside out. I know each day my body is getting healthier and that is my goal.

I am reading a book that in a 7 year period our body has replaced every cell in our body. So if you start eating healthy today, in 7 years every single cell that was affected by unhealthy eating will be replaced. In 7 years, I will have a new body. Its a wonderful thought but at the same time I will be 47 before that happens. GEEZ!

I just noticed something yesterday. I have never been able to grow decent finger nails and I am now. They used to be thin, weak, brittle, peel, etc. Now, none of that. I have been told that your nails, skin and hair can tell you what is going on inside. So if this it true, things are definitely turning around for me. My skin doesn't ich as much and I don't have to use as much lotion. My hair looks healthy and my nails are strong and healthy.

I am not sure if anyone read my last post on the other thread, forgot we started a new month, but I bought a book called "The Idiots Guide to Being Vegetarian". Well DH decided I needed it. LOL! Remember he is a big meat eater but he feels this is where I am headed because I am really enjoying my food lately and I am getting away from unnatural foods. Anyway, I tested as a natural vegetarian that was taught to eat and like meat. My Mom also tested the same. So far I really like what they are saying. Has anyone else read this book or heard of it?

Well I better get going and get some work done and I will talk to you all later.

bargoo 03-04-2008 11:07 AM

Lara, I think you and I are on the same page, about paying for information to diet or exercise or get motivated. I am not against it if for other people I find I can do just fine without it and believe me I have invested in just all kinds of programs, videos, pills, etc. Counting calories works for me.

irishfairy 03-04-2008 12:01 PM

thanks everyone for concern for my baby...he is doing much better and is eating again and keeping most of it down (only 2 incidents in 2 days :) )

slimming down: I think like you do!! lol. I am cutting back on breads, pastas, white potatoes, etc. but if I have a day I slip up on carbs as long as I stick to my calories I feel ok!!!

Zenor: same thing happened to me a couple times. I ordered a kiddy cone at licks in a cup. and they gave me a hug scoop!!!! Also I asked for light mayo at subway so they put more on :( so I scrapped some off at home.

Grammy: I was at dhs work party and got my palm read by a palm reader she said the usual telling me stuff about my personality then she looked at my nails and said wow your really hydrated, you drink alot of water and you becoming super healthy even though she was supposed to be a psychic and not a dr it felt good to know my health is improving lol

well I am down a lb today!!! yay!!!! 3 more lbs and no more 180's!!!!!! I have been in the 180s for 3-4 years!!! It will be nice to finally break that! I am still getting ready for canadian idol I think I am singing my immortal by evanescence. I really want to buy my outfit soon but I am waiting until the week before to be sure of my size. i am super nervous and super excited!!!!
